  1. I'm a Sly fan, so the new Dredd 3D film wasn't as fulfilling as I had hoped.
  2. Mine were used. You can tell the approximate age by the crossover. Mine are late 70/ early 80s. I bought speakers that I knew could fill almost any size room I am likely to encounter. Right now they are in a 12x18 and they fill the room with sound completely. I won't be at my current location for much longer so I didn't want something that I'd have to upgrade in a year. Also I don't have to worry about WAF (wife approval factor) so that affords me some freedom.
  3. "Would investing in something from the Heritage line fall into your first method of upgrading? " I am kinda a step or two ahead of you in my journey. My love is Home Theater and I can tell you that La Scalas, of the Heritage line, are a great start. Used pairs can be had when you watch Craigslist and the Forum. I picked up a used pair for $1000. The sound quality and volume is absolutely impressive! Now, I upgraded from a pair of Sony SSF-5000s (currently my surrounds). I know my direction will be a complete Heritage 5.1 (hopefully even a 7.1 or 2...wishful thinking ) Home Theater. Yeah, my journey will take me a few years for sure, but I'm looking forward to the ride. From my perspective, it's definitely better to save and get what's Right for you rather than what can be had Right Now. I've made my plug for Heritage. Whatever you decide, enjoy the ride, post pictures, and draw from the wealth of forum members here! Most are friendly enough to let you audition their gear too!
  4. +1 I went with a top of the line Sony LED. Mine has the 3D and in the past 10 months since I've had it, I've used the 3D twice...mainly because my receiver doesn't support 3D and I don't have many 3D blu rays. I wouldn't consider LCD anymore with LEDs becoming cheaper. Good luck!
  5. Question...there are a few LSI La Scalas only a few hours from me in Wintstom Salem NC. They currently are in the Garage sale part of the Forum. Would one of those mate well with my current LS or do the LSI need to be mated with other LSI only?
  6. Thanks for the encouragement everybody! Once I gather funds, I'm thinking my next step will probably be a receiver upgrade (something that has preouts because my current receiver doesn't) or true separates. I'd like to pick up a third LS for a center down the road. It's definitely overkill for my current space, but my location is temporary.
  7. Last night, I drove from Greenville SC to Atlanta GA (with Labor Day Weekend traffic no less!) and picked up a pair of La Scalas. They are so much more full and real sounding than my previous speakers! It's like I'm at the game! Yeah, I am just starting to build my HT. My equipment is all mismatched right now based on my budget, but the journey has begun...and I think that La Scalas are an excellent start to a Heritage HT. I'm still working on placement and am considering moving the right LS into the corner and seeing how I like that sound. Scott
  8. I agree with ousig - Plasma's are the best bang for your buck and have an amazing picture. Typically, they are ridiculously heavy, but hey, you don't plan on moving the thing all the time right? I ended up purchasing (circa November 2011) a 55" Sony LED 240hz 1080P 3D TV with all the Smart Apps for $1400 (including shipping) and it came with 2 pairs of 3D glasses and a 3D blu ray. I have moved a few times in the past year, so I went with LED because the picture is very comparable to Plasma, but the major difference is in weight. My 55" weighs 20lbs less than my older 42" Plasma. I still haven't used a single Smart App and probably won't, but for the price, I couldn't let that pass. When trying to decide which TVs are the nicest, I personally came to the conclusion that Sony and Samsung were the 2 nicest manufacturers out there. Samsung held a slight edge in my mind, but not enough to hold out for the perfect deal on one. Hope this helps!
  9. Lol, I have those Sony speakers (SSF5000) right now....and yah, they aren't Reference quality by aaaaaaaaaany stretch. Just waiting for a deal of Black RF-83s to come along.............
  10. FWIW, I have a 55" Sony 240hz LED 3D TV brand new for $1400 (came with 2 pairs of glasses as well) and love it. I had a 42" Plasma, but wanted something lighter and newer in the technological realm. I occasionally use the 3D, but mainly just enjoy a crystal clear picture. Blu Ray looks incredible!
