  1. Hi All !!! Well I attended Afredo's Audio meeting on Saturday and let me tell you what a great bunch of guy's. He's right on the money when he say's there not Audiophile snobs. Just a bunch of music lovers with every sort of Amplification you could imagine. Even home built SS rigs that were impressive !! I got to audition my first 45 tube based 2 watt custom built amp real sweet sounding. I don't think you will see me go that route though not enough wattage for my rock and roll ears. Also heard Afredo's Wav 8's there a great value and sound real good for the $ great buy. Also met Tim from this forum and heard his HF-81 although not under the greatest setup. Alfredo has his speakers Biamped running a SS amp on the bottom and tubes on the top end we didn't have much luck getting it dialed in. But the top end did sound good with Tims amp. Much better then the experience I had with my HF-81. Sure wish Tim could of stuck around for the crowd to thing and let me hook one of my Scotts to run the Bottom I think he would of loved the combo. We finally hooked both my Scotts up and the sound I thought was great and I believe Afredo liked it too. Afredo you can elaborate if you like ! Afredo gave me a nice set of AR-2AX's that I'm going to restore and see what there like there in descent shape just need the woofers refoamed. I met so many people at this event and seen so much I can't begin to remember everyone's name or what they all had. A real cool person I got to met was Edger the wood horn man. What a nice old gentleman. Anyways I just thought I would thank Afredo and his group for being so nice and socialable letting me come horn in on the fun !! 2. deang If your using the spades that's fine. I'll just take whatever they come with. I'll just buy what I end up needing for them. I'm a wire non believer and this is a cheap way for me to test the other half on the debate LOL !!! So my total should be $150.00 right ? I'm headed out to Alfredo Abates House in a few minutes for his audio meet the only reason I'm up at this ungodly hour !! I'll paypal you the cheese later tonight or sunday morning. Craig
  3. deang I call dibs on the following. One set of Monster 550i's in the 2 meter length. Less than a year old and mint. $35 Another set as above except in 1 meter length $25 I might want these also. What kind of end attachment is on them ?? MIT 4 speaker cables. This is the new version with the improved components and outer sheathing. I upgraded to the MIT Biwire 2 and no longer have any use for these. If you still believe cables all sound the same, buy these. They are 8 feet in length. Paid $170. $90 Oh and how would you prefer to be piad ?? 4. Chris Robinson Sorry to hear of your loss.Hope all is going well !!!! I personally thought MH would already be back. I'm sure he will surface here sooner or later. ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>
  5. ShapeShifter has you right on track. Open up the Amp and you will see where there is a small slot that you can use the straw to spray directly into the dial and the switches while turning or pushing the switch back and forth use plenty and let it dry. Turn your amp back on and the noise will be gone if it isn't give it a second try. 7. Manuel You say your Heresy's are on there side and at your ear level. So either you lay on the floor and listen or you have them on some type of stand or shelf. Fill me in here !! 8. Josh, Have you tested your heresy's at that height to see what they sound like ? I would hate to see you buy those stands and find they sound thin on the bass side. I had mine up on some 12" stands they really lost bass I believe this is why they made the slanted riser for them. Those do look like some nice stands but for that price they should be. They get way to much for stands, AV racks and all the extra's in this hobby. 9. Alfred, I think I will attend and also I would be interested in those speakers if someone hasn't already put dibbs on them. I'll be coming from Michigan. Is there any short cuts or a way to bypass Chicago to get to your place ? Also If you want I could bring a Vintage HH Scott Tube amp if your interested. 10. Chris, I have been thinking the same thing about HT. I have enough tube amps now that I could power all my channels with tubes. But no matter what you do I think its going to be impossible to get away from SS preamp you have to have a SS digital processor no matter what because all surround source material is done in DD or DTS. I'd try it but my Sony receiver doesn't have preouts. I really don't think there's much to gain in movies anyway's but multi channel music might really benefit from this I know Eagle Bat out of hell is a toss up for me. It sounds about as good with the Sony or the tube amp just in different way's. Not really a fair comparision 5.1 to 2 channel. I bet the Electric company would love Tube surround to sky rocket in popularity could you amagine the power usage and heat generated from 6 channels of tubes Whew !!!!! 11. @silverfox@ A Variac regulates the voltage to the amp and allows it to reform all the Capacitors. They can do some nasty damage if they are open or shorted. If your handy you can use a lamp in series with the amps power cord but its a pain. I used to do it this way. Did the Seller say if he had listened to the amp lately and for how long? If its been run rescently you most likely have no worry's. I wouldn't hook it to your good speakers if you have another set laying around for the test run in. even if there some cheapo junk. 12. Awesome Post. Makes me want to deliver the Scott 299 rather than ship it to Ed when I get it done LOL !!! ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>
  13. @silverfox@ I don't want to spoil your fun. But .... when you recieve this Amp I would be very carefull turning it on in fact you should have a Variac to limit the voltage in case something is shorted in the amp. These old amps have alot of components that can go bad if the amp has been left unused for a long time. At the very least keep your hands on the power button or switch for the first hour and be ready to shut it off if any weird smells or signs of excessive heat begin to surface. First thing to do is pull the fuse when you unpack it and make sure its the amp rating for the amp this is real important. If someone put a over rated fuse in because it kept blowing the stock size there is definitly something wrong with the amp and it shouldn't be run without someone checking it out completely. I'm not trying to scare you just don't want something bad to happen to your new treasure. 14. Chris Robinson and lynnm pretty much covered the bases real well. So I will just agree ! You basically need to decide what price range your willing to go and Vintage or New and then dive in you won't regret it either way. 15. I agree it has gotten pretty quiet around here these day's. In fact I was chatting on the phone the other day with MDeneen and told him it was pretty dead here. I thounght it was just spring fever myself. I know its been a long winter here in Michigan and its finally over !! So I've been wearing myself out enjoying the weather. Also I have acquired 4 new tubes amps lately that I will restore and of coarse keep you all updated on them. I bought 2 Scott 99D mono intergrated's that utilize the 6L6 output tubes they both work and sound good but need some work for safe operation. I also bought a Knight 935 intergrated that uses 6BM8's its alright but not top of the line by no means. But also will get some updates and upgrades as soon as a find a schematic. Finally I scored a Scott LK-72 that uses 7591 outputs. I've been trying to get one of these for months at a reasonable price and finally did this unit is going to get the complete Mod job and most likely become my main Amp until I score some vintage Mono Blocks and a nice preamp. I scored some salvation army jewels earlier today. I picked up a JVC Turn Table Model JL-F50. What a score this looks to be a top of the line Professional Turn table real nice tone arm. Hell the whole thing was like brand new and even had the original box and manual. I paid the whopping price of ....... 24.99 LOL !!!!!! I also picked up a Tape deck in its original box no manual. Its a Sankyo STD-1650 ?? Anyone know anything about it ?? It works great and sounds okay I guess. Well that's what's up with me ... 16. I found a 50+1 on ebay that's looks like a great deal. Its a PD-F79 its only at $49 right now but who know at ebay. LOL !!!!! ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>
  17. Okay first off let me make this clear !!!!! I'm not looking for a High Dollar audiophile type CD Deck. Here is what I'm after. I'm looking for a CD changer to use that will have descent sonic quality's and be able to shuffle a descent amount of discs like say 50 to 200 as in 50 being the minimum. I want this for casual listening when I do serious listening its Vinyl all the way. I currently have a Sony DVD drive that to me sounds real good thru my Tube Amps. But its in my HT setup and I need something for my workshop/2 channel setup. The current out dated Sony CDP315 is just plain lousy and doesn't like burned disc and is real near taking a dump on me. So give me some option what's the best buy dollar to sound quality wise. My birthday is nearing and I'll have my wife get me one. Thanks Craig ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>

  24. Well If the rear tags don't match and the numbers aren't even near consecutive it seems to me that one speaker is a cornwall 1 and the other is a 2. If this is the case the value is way lower. I would advise you update you listing on Ebay to reflect this or someone will get real mad. Just my 2 cents worth. ------------------ HH Scott 299 Amp HH Scott LT-110B Tuner HH Scott P-87 Turn Table Grado cartridge Sony CDP315 CD Drive 1985 Walnut Heresey I KSW-15 Subs>c>
