  1. I'm not sure about ratios, but I have heard the closer you have to a square room, the worse the reverb will be.
  2. I don't often see a lot of these on the forums for sale but if anyone has a pair they are looking to sell,, I'd like to make an offer! I usually go new on stuff like this but they are a bit pricey and they don't seem to go on sale often.
  3. Small and large doesn't really correspond to the physical size of the speakers. Large is usually set only when the speakers are full range which most speakers are not.
  4. I seem to remember a drawing PWK made having to do with a setup like that. The idea was that the sound would bounce off the walls and then go towards your ear giving you the impression of a wider soundstage than would be possible in a skinny room.
  5. Found a pretty good deal for some RF-63's in Rochester. I work just a few minutes from there and would be willing to check their condition or coordinate something if anyone needs any. I'm having a hard time letting these go myself. I bet they would make fantastic rear surrounds. CL AD
  6. It may not be the same, but for my xbox and dvd players, the netflix app has all the alphanumeric characters in a bar at the top and you just push the right and left and enter buttons to select the letters to spell out the name of what you are looking for. Every time you hit a new letter, the search results refresh so you don't have to type in the entire name as soon as you see your desired selection.
  7. Have you tried hooking up your cable box's hdmi out to the 105's hdmi in? When you get it burnt in (I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone needing to do this for better video), it might even get your cable better quality. I forget who it was, but a member recently posted screen shots of the oppo vs ps3 playing blu-ray and i was actually very surprised at the difference in video quality. It's what sold me on eventually having to get one.
  8. You could potentially use a y-splitter and connect the 7.1 analog out on the 105 to the amp as well as the pre-outs from the XMC-1. Would be helpful to a lot of people if we had an idea of the differences in sound quality. I'm on the fence on the 105 because I am not sure how good the DACs in the XMC are going to be. If they are comparable, I am obviously going to use the XMC for all the rest of the features as well. If not, I'd probably end up getting a stereo pre-amp with HT pass-thru to get the best of both worlds.
  9. That would be the rmc-1 which is slated to be about 3000. I don't know a lot about it but its supposed to have a slightly upgraded room correction system over the xmc, amore pure analog section and various other upgrades. It looks pretty nice. I've spent some time working with their customer service when I was having problems upgrading the firmware on my umc1 and they were an absolute pleasure to talk to. I think they rival oppo in terms of customer service. Keep in mind that if you use an upgrade card on the xmc-1, you will still receive the 25% for life.
  10. .... I think you should definitely upgrade! The slow video switching and HDMI locks are a pain in the *** so you need this! Whats there to lose if you can sell the umc 1 for more than the cost of the 200 with upgrade cert?
  11. Yeah but I have no idea which would be better. Probably would be dependent on any physical room corrections like bass absorbers. Would be fun to figure out either way.
  12. I think the XMC-1 and The Oppo BDP-105 would go fantastic together. From what's been said about the XMC-1, the analog section has been "hot-rodded". If the XMC-1 ever comes out and you go for it, make sure to let us know your thoughts! My only concern would be to take full advantage of the 105, you'd need to use the analog outs, which means you'd be losing out on the supposedly very good room corrections the XMC-1 has. Not sure if it's the 103 or 105, but one of them is definitely going to be a part of my near future as well.
  13. If you can get away with spending 1000$, I think themrclean probably has the best suggestion. Though among receivers, I have always been partial to Pioneer. Even the lower end ones seemed to do extremely well with Klipsch, and it may be a placebo effect, but I just feel like there is something a bit more magical about Emotiva. Depending on what you are planning on doing as far as movies or games or music goes, the Pioneer might still be your best bet and you can always add an amp later on down the road if you need something more.
  14. I think it would probably be worth it if you want to resell it for a profit and obtain your 25% off Emotiva products for life. I don't think it would be enough of an improvement to hold you over momentarily till the XMC-1 comes out so I'd probably keep it boxed up. Besides the lack of quirks the UMC-1 had such as slow HDMI switching, the only real improvement I could see someone getting out of this is it apparently has the second generation EmoQ.
  15. I would check out Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon if you can find the SACD.
  16. Welcome to the forum fellow Trent! (I'm Trent too ) When you get your RF-7 II's, I'd like to make a small suggestion. Try toeing them in just a tad so that the horns are almost directly facing the middle listening position. For my RF-83's, there was a noticeable difference in the sound stage.
  17. Christ, I believe you broke a very important forum rule. We need to hear how those RF-83's are working out for you? I don't believe you ever gave us a review and your thoughts on them now that you've had them for a while. Or am I mistaken?
  18. How does your wife feel about building a false wall? That way, you can get the setup you want and she doesn't have to look at it.
  19. If you get an amp, they last forever and will outperform a receiver in terms of power output. It should also make things easier down the road because processors tend to be a bit more future proof than AVRs. I've become a huge fan of separates and can't see myself ever going back.
  20. Oh great, now you got me wanting another one. I kind of wrestled with the idea that having two on opposite corners would be ideal. Not sure how much good the passives are doing right against the wall but having all walls effected by one passive each seems like a good idea.

  22. Sorry, we could have been more descriptive. Digital coax might be a little overkill. I'm not exactly sure what the difference between those and RCA cables are, just more shielding I think. But if you have your amp and processor close to each other, it's not really necessary. Just any RCA cable will do. The only thing I suggest you don't do is get your cables from radio shack. I swear every time I buy anything from there, it falls apart. Adding an amp is really the easiest thing you can do. It's just simply take the speaker wire out of the back of your receiver, plug it back into the amp, and run however many RCA cables you need from your processor to their respective channels on the amp. Emotiva also suggests turning your amp on for about an hour before you play anything to let it warm up for the first time. How necessary this is, I don't know. I started blasting right away and mine was fine. But if you have more patience than me, which isn't hard, that's just what they suggest.
  23. I don't think it's a good idea but the amp and processor usually run pretty cool. I think you could get away with doing that if you had to, but they should really have a few inches at least on all sides.
  24. I believe it's possible but I think it would take turning them up quite loud and over an extended amount of time. I'm not sure if the speaker starts to distort when it happens or what, maybe someone that has done this before can let you know. I would say that was almost certainly your case. When you had it turned way up, did you hear anything that sounded like it could be potentially damaging the speakers?
