I'm messaging back and forth with an onkyo owner on the AVS forum that uses the zone 2/3 12v triggers for his amps as well. I guess it's not out of the question to run amps with onkyo receivers. I knew that didn't make any sense...I suppose that makes the 818 get added back to my list of potentials...

Cool, I figured it would be fine, I just wanted to double check. Thanks!

I was reading another thread and it made me curious. Are my RS-62 IIs not timbre matched with the rest of my system? Would it have been better to go with the 52s or would it make that much of a difference? I would imagine it is, but in the package deals klipsch puts the 52s with the rest of my system...whoops?

Ha, maybe I will! =^P

Just found this post on the AVS forum about onkyos and amps: yes the Onkyo can be as a trigger by the zone 3 setting. just set zone 3 to source & when you turn on the zone 3 it then triggers the external amps my 5008 & 1009 both work that way with my 2 Emotiva UPA-7 & UPA-2 You can even piggy back / daisy chain the external amps as well . what you can't do is run them as a trigger & a Zone 3 speakers @ the same time .It's one or the other . which is why the 818 is really a great inexpensive way to have a Pre/Pro. if set-up right it will do every thing the expensive Onkyo Pre/Pro SC5509 will do . with the unit set-up as pre/pro, The 9 pre-outs ( plus the 2 Sub pre-outs ) can & will do 9.2 I can easliy start my 2 Emo's on the remote by selecting zone 3 on & then hit receiver on & the Onkyo starts as well . turns off by repeating that order in reverse

I'm starting to lean towards Marantz cuz they just look cool =^P

That would be a pain having to turn them on and off every time =^/ I really like everything else about the 818, so that's a big ol bummer. I dunno tho, I may still end up going with it as I'm not sure if I'll be buying amps any time soon...I'm thinking I will some day, but there is only so much money I can talk my wife into dumping into the HT. She's already upset at my speaker purchase =^P

You must have a big ol house if your living room is that large =^P Looks like a really nice setup! Do you plan on wall mounting that TV?

I actually did contact them to see what the deal was. That just seems *really* silly to me. I don't really know if I plan on buying amps within the next few years, but if I do end up deciding to do so, I would like to have the option to use them. Everything else about the 818 looks extremely appealing, but if there is no way to trigger amps correctly I can see this as being a deal breaker for a lot of people (as it has already been mentioned in this thread). I suppose you could always just use zone 2 in your main listening area...right? I suppose I'd have to see if you lose any sound options by doing it that way. Although aren't other zones usually only 2 channel? I just don't get their reasoning behind not having 12v for zone 1... edit: just saw that zone 2 doesn't have video out, sooooo so much for that idea.

That just seems really odd to me...what would be the point of having the 9.2 pre-outs then? There has to be another way to turn the amps on...
-
^^^Which one are you talking about in particular?
-
I'm looking at the onkyo 818, it has 9.2 analog pre-outs but the 12v trigger is only for zone 2/3. From what I've read this is what is used to turn amps on, would there be another way to for the onkyo to trigger amps to turn on? I would think there has to be a way or else there wouldn't be the pre-outs, right?

Watching Sherlock Holmes now (the first 'new' one). It has some great surround effects in it. I re-ran my Audyssey today and it sounds fantastic.
-
I'd probably try it out too if I already had amps...$500 is a sweet price.

Mine always shows all channels when I watch a 7.1 movie.

What kind of remote do you currently have? You can try a universal remote that should work. Check out logitech's harmony line. I believe they have a list of compatible components on their website and see if that's in there.

Go as big as you can afford so you don't have to worry about upgrading. It'll save you money in the long run.

I'm just glad I've been lucky enough to have stumbled across this information at an early stage before I got hooked into buying something crazy expensive.

Klipsch Hotties, has anyone seen this website?

I'm digging those copper horns too. -
+1 You can probably afford more speaker if you shop around. That's not a bad idea tho to get the RBs and then move them to the surrounds in the future when you get the fronts you want.

I actually posted this article in another thread. Good idea to make a new thread about it because unfortunately people still fall into the best buy monster cable trap. I would feel like I was selling my soul if I had to sling those things on unassuming customers every day.

The shipping to Dubai would be way more than the DVD player, lol. Perhaps you were thinking of utilizing the "Camel Express" ....it could take months at best Ha, I didn't notice he was in Dubai either. I would assume they would have electronics stores similar to best buy over there tho. This is a good question. Would it be worth it to buy a new TV now? Or is this something that would be coming out next year and I should wait for?
-
Ha, I used to have one of those TVs. I dreaded every time I moved.

I see what yer saying. What's the difference between class D and class A / B?
