  1. That is too funny! I just read the following this afternoon on Craigslist: “I am not an audio salon and do not have time to let tire kickers sit in my living room to audition the speakers. The speakers are not in my current system, but I will hook each one up for you to see that they both work.…. I will also "consider" a trade for a two person Kayak in great condition. I am only interested in a trade for a kayak and will not consider any other items in trade." Something about the imagery of an audio salon combined with tire kickers.... I hope this thread persists, wherever it needs to be.
  2. First the Heresy, then the Forte, now wanting Cornwall or La Scala (or even a second pair of Forte), and newly aware of the temptation of tubes I am teetering on the edge of the cliff, staring into a bankruptcy of beautiful music....
  3. Robert B, I don't think you're too late. I bought my first Klipsch speakers only two years ago and I'm 59. The downside, if there is a downside, is getting the bug to try out different models and upgrade the system. So now, after buying the Reference pair (RF-62 II), I have a pair of Heresy, a pair of Forte II and an Academy center...inside of just two years. Oh, and the RC-62II. So there's the addiction thing to worry about. And I thank the members of this forum for all their knowledge, advice and encouragement for us newcomers.
  4. I got the RC-62 II in December as a match for the RF-62 II. It has performed very well. It's just large! I need a different console in which to place it.
  5. Last year I purchased a pair of Forte II’s and had my old Sansui receiver (3900z, 40watt ca. 1981) to use with it in my study. I know the 3900z is not rated highly by anyone but I’ve owned it for over 32 years and thought I’d give it a try with the Fortes. I am just amazed at the life-like performance. For comparison, I connected the Fortes to a Musical Fidelity A2 amplifier and there are times I would choose the Sansui over it. I still want to try a tube amplifier some day; however, I don’t feel in a hurry to do so since I am enjoying what I have.
  6. Great speaker at a fair price. But where were you in December when I was searching for one? [] I'm right down the road! Given the demand for it, I'm sure you will find a buyer soon. Best of luck.
  7. Apart from finding bargains and enjoying music played through these great speakers, what kind of interesting stories have you picked up along the way? I ask because my first purchase of vintage speakers last fall brought me to Ball Ground, Georgia, where I bought a beautiful set of 1980 Heresys that had belonged to the owners father, Robert Moulson. I learned that Moulson (1932-2003) was a classical tenor who performed in operas and concerts in America and Europe from the late 1950s through the 1980s. He became associated with the role of Lenny Small in Carlisle Floyd's adaptation of Of Mice and Men. I dont know why he didnt own a pair of La Scalas or something but I can imagine Mr. Moulson enjoying all manner of music on his Klipschs, but particularly opera and the show tunes he loved to sing. I now use the Heresys in my home theater set up. They are pictured in my avatar, with the flamingos on top. Somehow I just feel like I got more than just a pair of speakers.
  8. Im beginning to think my family wife, son, and daughter suffer some kind of acute deafness. Perhaps I should be grateful, as one Klipsch-aholic in the family is enough. After all, would it really be a good thing to have four of us vying to check out the sales listings? I think not. Nevertheless, an ooh, or ahhhh! should have been in order after I connected these new Fortes. Whats wrong with these people? Maybe I should have turned on the amplifier.
  9. Would be happy to stop in Lafayette...was passing by yesterday on my way back from Oak Ridge to Atlanta with speakers loaded in the car! Bad wreck near Carbondale caused me to linger there....
  10. I loved Knoxville, that scruffy town. Home to family and the University of Tennessee. I spent many happy years there.
  11. Annnnd.were back. I just completed what was possibly a gigantic fools errand, driving three hours to Oak Ridge, TN for a pair of Forte IIs. My wife didnt understand, my kids didnt understand and all questioned the sanity and safety of the endeavor. As I drove, I questioned myself, but on I went. It turns out it was crazy foolish but also incredibly lucky. I obtained a pair of pristine oak Fortes in absolutely perfect condition and had a great visit with the owner. Heres the neat thing about this hobby. Aside from the wonderful Klipsch equipment, you meet interesting people who share a love of music and there you have a bond. You might be interested in some of the other items for sale on the Knoxville Craigslist. He has a couple of Heresy Is and a Heresy III, and there are other non-Klipsch audio equipment for sale. I even got to listen to some Magnepans for the first time. Awesome!
  12. I should have figured youre all a bunch of enablers! Ill never recover and will be looking to the next fix. Tomorrow I head up to Oak Ridge, TN for the Fortes. The guy has some Heresys, too, and I see ads in the Knoxville Craigslist for more Klipsch speakers but I'm not stopping. Heres a crazy thing. My sister and several cousins live nearby and I am focused solely on picking up the speakers and returning to Atlanta. Sick, no? But then, you havent met my relatives! []
  13. Well, the living room is fairly large, with very high ceiling...maybe La Scalas would work, as long as I could unload the RF towers! ...and convince my lovely wife []
  14. "slippery slope".....hoarders....recovery meetings, and donuts. I am in trouble, not to mention the weight gain. Well, I'm buying the Forte II's and that will be the end of it. I can quit. Really. Let me know if you come back to Atlanta. I know where all the Krispy Kremes and Five Guys are. Not to mention the Varsity.
  15. Well I like chocolate glazed as well, and all y'all will have to come to Atlanta when the Krispy Kreme HOT light is on!
  16. Im relatively new to Klipsch, and to this forum. I may need some help and some defense tips. My wife and kids are questioning my sanity. Last year I stumbled upon Klipsch and bought RF-62IIs for our living room. Now dissatisfied with audio in the den I bought a pair of Heresy Is as an experiment, put those with my subwoofer. I soon realized my center channel was inadequate, learned about timbre matching, and a forum member sold me an Academy, which has performed beautifully. I was happy again. But my study! In there are the crappy old Sansui S-57s I have had since 1980 and which sound awful compared to any Klipsch. Thinking of moving the Heresys to the study, I am about to buy a pair of Forte IIs and nobody can understand why do you have to buy more speakers? Calling them replacements does not seem to work! (but no one is complaining about the sound quality, either) Any similar stories out there?
  17. Received the Academy today in great shape. Been playing it all evening on music videos, movies, and regular tv. What an incredible difference this speaker makes with the vintage Heresys! Thanks so much, Sal!
  18. LOL! To be sure, the table was not selected with a comprehensive plan in place (I did not even own the Heresys until a couple of months ago). But Heidi would probably cut me in half if I even mentioned carving the console! But thanks, it's good to think far afield. I may work towards something else and not be chained to the table idea ........ /Steve, the 'Not Daring in This Case'
  19. Thanks for the advice, from everyone. So now I see I need to timbre match and I will try to do that with the Heresys. I have a set of RF-62II's upstairs. Maybe an RC-3 or RC-35 would match them. wig235: we can talk about that! I am posting a photo to give an idea our configuration in the den (hope I did it right). Ten feet separate the two Heresys; distance from TV to couch is about twelve feet with a low acoustical ceiling. There is enough room between the right side of the console and the door to place a speaker, but it would not be dead center. Also, my wife kept knocking into the speaker that used to be there. So that side close to the door is not speaker friendly. If necessary, I could mount the television on a wall bracket and place a center speaker on top of the console. That would mean elevating the TV anywhere between eleven to fifteen inches above its present height. I checked with my wife tonight, taking crude measurements and she didn't think from her viewing point the angle would be too much if we elevated the TV slightly. But what to put there? A Heresy on its side? (that's a big box for a relatively small console!) What are my options for Heritage matches if I cannot make it with a Heresy? Is it Heresy or nothing, or are there other choices to match the Heritage line. I have read elsewhere on this site about the Academy. Do you think the Academy would be a good match if I can find one? I see one on eBay now but the asking price of $500 seems a little steep. [http://www.ebay.com/itm/170915697351?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649] Still, the dark walnut finish would be a near perfect match. Timbre aside, I have to think about how it would look. I owe Heidi that much. I'm in no hurry but that Polk center is starting to vex me. I leave it on for regular television watching, which at least gives the Heresys a rest for most mundane viewing.
  20. I have two Heresy fronts and would like to get a Klipsch center channel to match them. The TV sits on a console table, and the center must fit on a shelf below, with a little over 8" headroom. By the published specs, the RC-3 and RC-35 will fit. I've read about the Academy but it is too large and hard to find anyway. So I know my dimensions but I don't know how either would sound or if there is something else that might be well-matched for the Heresy speakers. I'm searching Craigslist and eBay, as well as this forum to see what is available. But I would appreciate the expert advice of the members here. Thanks!
