It's no surprise that it does though, with it's two 12" ISD drivers, 3 3" ports, way more internal volume, and more amplifier power. The RSW-10 should be considered if keeping the size down is one of your top priorities.

And where is the Aerial SW12,Revel B15,SVS Ultra,PB2-Plus and B4-Plus/K2 Where are these subs, they would re-arrange and grab the top positions with ease. ---------------- I know the only SVS TN has tested is the original 20-39CS so that's why that's the only one on the list. AFAIK, he hasn't tested any of the other subs you mentioned. I'm pretty sure all of those subs would grab the top spots. I was talking to John Janowitz and he's suppossed to be getting two new Stryke subs Nousained soon. One will be his Mini Thunder which is a 1.5 cu ft enclosure with a 12" SAE1204 and dual 12" PR's powered by a 350W amp. The other will be the Thunder 12 which is a 3 cu ft enclosure with an AV12 and dual 15" PR's powered by a 500W amp. He's also coming out with a updated Power 15(which currently tops the list) which will have a newer version of the HE15 woofer with 30+mm of excursion and lower distortion which will be Nousained later.
  6. I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention here that TN tested the Paradigm Seismic 12. There seemed to be quite a bit of interested when TheEAR said he was going to review it so I though you guys would be interested in how it compares to other subs. It's got a 12" downfiring woofer and two 10" passive radiators packed in roughly a 14" cube. It places itself within the top 10 on the list. Here are it's number's using TN's normal method: Figures are for a corner loaded subwoofer, 2 meter mic distance, 10% distortion limit, and the SPLs have been averaged from the maximum output at 1/3 spacing at 25/31/40/50/62hz. Paradigm Seismic 12 108dB / 20hz~87dB Max output w/10% distortion - 113dB~62Hz Frequency Response - 25-117Hz +/-3.5dB You can reference the list to see how it compares to other subs. I've begun to add TN's measured FR for the subs to the list. Even though it can be completely different in another room, it's a good piece of data to see what kind of extension can be expected(I don't have it for all subs but I'm still not done updating it). I've also added a link to the old style list at the very top because if you want to reference the data in a post you can just copy and paste it much easier from the old style list.

  8. Well my Sony DVD went on the futz so I got Best Buy to replace it but the wisdom that is Best Buy management said since I didn't bring a box in so I don't take a box out. So now I have this new Sony dvd player and the included brand new accessories(remote, manual, and batteries), which btw, I didn't bring in but I brought out:). I'm asking $70 shipped for a brand new player. I think I'm going to go with a pricier dvd player so I'm offering this one for sale. I hooked it up via the component video outputs and verified the analog and coax digital outputs are working. I will make sure it is double boxed so no damage occurs during shipping. Click for larger pic: I have over 180 positive ebay feedback under the name frankcarter, I've also bought and sold a few things here before as well.

  10. What kind of sub is that? How is it push-pull if both woofers are facing the same way on the same plane?
  11. Dave I think you're just confused, you have nothing to worry about. Everything you've said is technicallly correct, but just slightly twisted around. When your Kenwood says not to connect speakers less than 8 ohms, it means not to connect speakers less than 8 ohms to the receivers amplifier(meaning the 5/6/7 mains speakers in a HT you'd connect with speaker wire). Since you're subwoofer is not using the Kenwoods' amplifier and it has it's own 250W plate amp you don't need to pay attention to Kenwood's warning when it comes to the subwoofer.

I have a Yamaha rxv-630 75 pwc receiver, with this size, and not driving the sub hard, could I still get tight base for music as well as lows for movies. I'm guessing I will probably need an additional amp for the sub. Can I get away with doing that later? If so then I would consider the cht-15 as my system will continue to grow, just want to be happy with what I do as I go. Thanks for the input. Jack. ---------------- You don't need an additional amp for the CHT-15, it has a built in 300W amp. You can see from this list it does quite well compared to higher priced subwoofers. Here's a recent review of it done by Tom Nousaine. http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=478&page_number=5
  13. I was pretty appreciative when the Dallas cheerleaders came out to Bosnia.
  14. Are you using the Kenwood receiver as a sub amp only? If so, then you'll be fine becuase each VC of the Shiva is 8 ohms. Just hook the left channel to one voice coil and right channel to the other.

  16. ---------------- On 1/3/2004 8:35:48 PM roadtonowhere08 wrote: At the risk of sounding stupid, how would I go about checking to see if they are out of phase? ---------------- Just make sure the positive and negative are the same on the left and right speaker. If you just flip the speaker leads on one speaker and bass increases with a more focused soundstage, they're now in phase. If bass decreases and the sound is less focused switch it back.
  17. Double check your speaker wire connections and make sure they're not out of phase, that can lead to a reduction of bass.
  18. I can't wait until she releases her new cd, I hope it's as good as the first. I mainly listen to hip hop and r&b but I think her cd has has spun in my cd player longer than any other cd I've owned.

I have analogue outs going from the soundcard on my computer to the analogue in on my reciever. Then I have the RB-5's powered by the reciever. I then pre-out using RCA to mini-plug into the sub of my Promedia's. You are positive nothing bad will happen to the tweeters if I hook up the RB-5's up in the A+B configuration? I have them set to "large", not much bass. Oh, one more thing, I have to turn up my promedia's up to like 60 out if 80 to get them to a decent level when 40 did it before. Is there a way to increase the preout volume without making the RB-5's louder, I don't want to harm the promedia's. Thanks. ---------------- I'm 100% sure nothing bad will happen to the RB-5's, but like I said and you probably realize since you said "kinda bi-amped" it does nothing for your sound the way you have it. I'm sorry but you you're out of luck, you can't adjust the volume of the preout's separately.

Of should I just get two of the same size (two 12's or two 10's) ---------------- It is always best to use two of the same subwoofer if you can. If you keep them placed together you can expect around a 6dB boost over a single one, if they're seperated they best you can get is 3dB.

By bi-amped I mean that my RX-V630 has A and B front main speaker posts. I have both A and B powering the two RB-5II's in a bi-wire configuration. My questions are as follows: 1. Is this the optimal way to power them given that I only have the Yamaha as an amp? 2. Is it safe to power them like this, I mean sending equal power to both woofers and tweeters? 3. For such large and impressive speakers with such large bass reflex ports, the bass coming out of them is almost nonexistent. I have to provide the bass with the Promedia 5.1 Ultra's woofers. Am I doing something wrong? I know this sounds like 20 questions, but I could really use some help. PS. If anyone is familiar with this reciever, could you tell me if there is a way to increase the preout volume without increasing the main volume knob? Thanks ---------------- Hooking it up the way you have it really does nothing. I would just hook it up to the A channels only to avoid wiring clutter. What you're doing is safe. Have you checked your receiver to make sure you have the speakers set to large, that could be the reason you're not getting any bass. If it's set to small, the Yamaha's crossover is set to 90Hz. What exactly is it you're trying to do with the preouts?

I was planning to set mine fairly close toe'd in at the front about 4-6" leaving the rear maybe 8-10" just a rough figure right now, BUT is this going to not work? ---------------- RPTV's are just must less sensitive to this problem than normal CRT tv's.

It's much cleaner and goes lower, I also don't think anyone will argue the the Infinity IL subs look better than the KSW subs.
  24. It should work wonderfully together. The only thing I would suggest though is looking into a different sub, I've found(and most others) the KSW subs to be quite boomy. Actually, the Dayton 10" subwoofer at www.partsexpress.com is a much better performer and you can get two for the same price.
