  1. ^^this!! I had towers as surrounds and they were amazing. I chose twin centers over rs surrounds and am almost about to go back to towers again. Dispersed sound just does not interest me, I like all sound sources to be similar. Would anyone here have rs series as there mains?
  2. So this is going to be my system. I am currently running the 82iis as mains, 64ii as center and rc62iis(not a misprint) as surrounds. My new to me RF83s are in transit due before the weekend and they are obviously going as my mains, 82s to surround duty and 62s to rear surrounds. My current system sounds amazing to me so I am anxious to get these older flagship towers set up. Has anyone else here mixed speakers like this? Any suggestions as to what I might expect? I am not to worried about timbre mismatch as I already have the 64 between the 82s and I like the combination. I had wanted RF7iis and have tried to save for them however here in New Zealand Klipsch is very expensive new and 2nd hand almost non-existent. I managed to get these RF83s cheaper than my RF82iis so I couldnt let that pass. Are these as good as RF7iis? I most likely will never get to hear the 7s so comments on the differences between the reference flagships would be good too. Cheers guys Will post pics as soon as they arrive!!
  3. Welcome to the forum. It is your system so whatever sounds good to your ears! I find audessey does a great job for movies but you can always double check the levels with a db meter. Music for me is a bit different. I turn audessey off, use only stereo and constantly play around with xover settings and double bass (lfe+mains). A basic starting point is xovers set to 80hz, even if audessey has set differently. I never listen to music using surrounds, the less processing the better for 2ch stereo. Depending on your choice of music and listening preference you may want to adjust eq or tone controls.
  4. I had f30s and run them on an NAD 275BEE 150wpc power amp. They were awesome and kept up with my velodyne cht12q
  5. Just wondering in your original post you stated klipsch recommending a receiver with more power than the 90w sony yet you got a 75w denon?
  6. I don't run full range any more, usually 60-80. It is nice to know that if I want to crank just the speakers they perform rather well on their own, but have nothing compared to the subs.
  7. I can have my onkyo at +6 (master volume) and bass at +6 (tone control) before I can hear any distortion, that's not to say it isn't happening. Obviously it is too loud for comfortable listening but those 4 8" woofers slam! For a long time I ran no sub and the subs I did purchase couldn't or struggled to keep up, until I found some proper subs.
  8. If you have a good power amp the rf82iis can slam hard frequencies 60hz-35ish hz while run full range. Anything 35hz and below a decent sub will be needed. It is then up to you and your eqipment if the sub should cover the higher frequencies.
  9. Welcome. I used a single rc62ii as surround back and now use twin rc62iis as surrounds. I chose them over rsxx or rbxx and they work well for me. I cant comment on how close they or any other reference speaker would match as I have not had the privalege of seeing or hearing klf30s. I would suggest you would want something bigger than rs42s to keep up with those big klfs.
  10. How can it be the ideal match when it is so small? RC62II all the way. And if you are going to mention timbre matching...something tinny cannot match something the size and sound of an F30.What are you talking about? The C-3 has the exact same size driver complement as the RC-62II and it certainly doesn't sound tinny. I suspect you've never even heard a C-3 if you're spouting comments like that. I've used a C-3 with an F-3 / S-3 system and am currently using one with a pair of B-3's and the C-3 keeps up with all of them just fine.Coming from someone who's owned C-3's, RC-3's , an RC-62II, a WC-24, and an RC-64II, IMHO it's always best to match the center with the mains, especially in this case, where a C-3 can "keep up" with F-3's just as well as an RC-62II can. I'm not saying that the C-3 is as good a speaker as the RC-62II, but it will certainly better integrate with your F-3's. People seem to forget that Klipsch designs and markets their speakers as matched sets. There are valid reasons for that; if not, they'd only sell one center speaker! If you can't find a C-3 (which admittedly might be tough), the RC-62II is a fine second choice and should be considerably easier to find. C'mon man its a small sealed plastic enclosure that goes down to around 70hz. There is no way it will match the large sound presence of the f3/f30. The vast majority of people unfortunately are either poorly misinformed or simply do not care, this is why klipsch markets and sells their packages. Every true enthusiast in this hobby will know the best match is 3 f3s for the front soundstage. I dont see klipsch selling that as a package, it doesnt mean it is the wrong setup. So the way I see it, the closest sonic match, not just 80hz and above, other than another f3 is an rc62ii. Sure its not perfect but will sound a lot bigger than a c3 period. By the way I replaced my rc62ii because even it sounded too small between towers, the rc64ii gives me the full sounding center I was after.
  11. Exactly my thoughts. The bigger and better sound far outweighs any apparent timbre mis-match. My rc62ii between f30s was great and I guarantee it sounded better than the best synergy center. My rc64ii between rf82iis is the next level and similarly it bests the rc62ii which is 'the perfect match'. Center channel is so important and imho if it is the better sounding speaker in the system that is not a bad thing.
  12. How can it be the ideal match when it is so small? RC62II all the way. And if you are going to mention timbre matching...something tinny cannot match something the size and sound of an F30.If the op has no intentions of updating the rest of his setup, buying the RC-62 II is a bad idea. If he intends to upgrade all of his speakers in the near future it would be a wise investment. Every speaker has a place. It's also worth noting the C-3 was designed to go with the F-3 - it makes sense to keep things uniform if it's your target setup.I once again humbly disagree. I had the rc62ii between f30s and it sounded very uniform. A synergy center will not sound better

  14. I would get the best center you can afford, and none of the synergy centers will keep up/soud as good as your F3s. I used to run an rc62ii between f30s and it sounded a whole lot better than a tinny synergy center ever would.
  15. I have run an rc62ii between synergy f30s and it blended well. I would never consider a synergy center. Imho of course
  16. Have a look at this: I must say that it is meaningless. No list of equipment used is provided. In addition though not connected through the higher end audio I have, I did notice that the volume changed between the clips and was louder on the Xbox clips. Perhaps it was my connection but that alone tricks the listener in the favor of the louder device. For some reason, and I see it all the time, people assume that the PC is on a desk with computer speakers, nothing could be further from the truth. It is just as easy to connect a PC to a high end AV setup as it is a console is, a HDMI out for V and the audio can be ported in any number of ways. I tried to keep personal opinion out of my comments. I play both console and PC in different rooms on different setups. I still stand by my comment that I have no intention of buying a next gen console. There is nothing wrong with them if that is what you favor but there are other options too. One day when that kid on Craigslist has to sell either his PX or Xbox next gen at a big loss, then I may consider it but as I do already have a gaming PC, it renders the discussion moot for me. This is an old battle rearing it's head. There is more strife than clarity when this topic comes up and it was not the question asked at the start of this thread in which the CODECS for AUDIO are mentioned, not game play. Dodge, Chevy, Ford. All sides have supporters and detractors and when personal preference is involved, trying to "convert" another party to your point of view is a hard thing to do with much more heat than light being generated. I have ALWAYS been a console gamer, starting with a sega master system, so they are embedded in my life. I also like how they (ps3 now) integrate easily into my home theater setup. Theres nothing like playing any fps in full uncompressed surround sound. Now, having said that, I have been researching gaming pcs and am considering putting together a package. I have never owned a computer so this is long overdue I guess, and the interchangeability and customization for systems is very similar to HT building. My research suggests graphics wise through a monitor pcs easily beat even the new gen consoles, though through a tv there may be lag issues as the games can run so fast (depending on the hardware of course). Audio wise I arent really sure, but headphones vs HT are 2 very different things. I dont have the room to have a pc and desk setup in my ht room so its likely going to be 2 different setups which is how I think they should be compared. Pc for graphics, speed and upgradability on headphones on a desk or new gen consoles for integration, ease of use and KILLER audio. Obviously like anything it will be how much money and how well the whole system works together that will be the real story.
  17. On seperate amps yes they are good. On a receiver bi-amping does nothing as there is only 1 power supply, just halves the power per channel and then doubles it?
  18. I did consider a custom re-arranged rf82ii for center duty but got an rc64ii instead.. it was easier
  19. x2 on the bigger center. You will notice more improvement from that than you will from adding the rear speakers. The RC-3ii was a Huge improvement over the C-2 I had. The jump from that to the RC-7 was just as, if not more significant. since the RC-3ii is discontinued, i would look into the RC-52ii or RC-62ii...would either of these be okay and compliment the F-30 towers and S-20 surrounds? thanks all for the feedback so far! RC62ii between F30. That was my old front stage, I found they matched well. I never considered anything smaller for a center, it is the most important speaker for ht
  20. lucky man with the speakers and the woman who likes the speakers! !
  21. I have been very happily married for 17 years. To me, it's all about respect for each other. In a marriage, if we both don't agree on something, we don't do it, ESPECIALLY for big purchases. Just because I am the man of the house doesn't mean I get to just do whatever I want. Originally, my wife's wishes was that I could do anything I want in the HT but no speakers in the living room. Over time, she has changed her mind. I could have went against her wishes and purchased the RF-7ii and put them in the living room but I value the relationship I have with my wife over any speakers I have ever owned or will ever own. When you respect each other's wishes, and learn to work through your differences, that's when relationships tend to work at their best. YMMV. I agree you have to work with partners, and I have had 1 that got really into my gear almost as much as me. However, if I was told I had to get some lifestyle system with 2" woofers, I would politely tell whoever it was that it is not even going to be considered. Try telling a woman they are not to buy clothes or shoes or moisturizer etc...
  22. tramstrong,First, welcome to the forum!! We hope you descide to stay awhile! Secondly, I have 7 big ugly black splatter painted speakers that weigh 250 pounds each plus 4 very large subs, and I did not get them by making my wife happy, but she didn't leave me either. I'll get off my soap box now. Third, if you can live with the substandard sound of a little speaker then know this, the two most important speakers in a surround system are the center channel and the sub woofer. Do you think she will let you go bigger on the center channel, and buy the best sub you can afford, even if it is way overkill on the other speakers. How much money can you budget on a sub?? Roger WAF will never be an issue for me! My partners are told that my setup is important to me. They can change/do anything in the rest of the house, they DO NOT mess with my setup. If I wish to buy thousands of dollars worth of large speakers and amps, I do. I just do not understand.I am trying not to offend, but I have heard this WAF b*lls**t to many times. Are we not men here?
