  1. Did that once for my friend, Brandon (Opus). But his were just a taaaad smaller. I mean: How do you pick out a "good" pair? Or what someone else would consider satisfactory? I suspect that more than just a few $ will be necessary to make the deal???? Then, it looks like you need a forklift to put the things into a good-sized pickup? Can't leave them out in the St. Louis winter weather. "Extra" space in the garage? The logistics seem to be formidable. Probably not impossible, but formidable.
  2. The obligatory ferry ride to cross the Mississippi (in New Orleans), every time you wanted to get to the other side. Just the way it was, "back in the day".
  3. Sadie, well done! Lived in NO for 4 years, leaving in 1961, for the West Coast (father Navy). Heck, the bridge over the Mississippi was completed during that time. Before that it was "ferry across the Mercy, er, Mississippi"). CEC, glad you were able to sit that one out?
  4. Hot diggity, Sadie, You ARE serious! Glad you let me/us know. What part of LA are you in? Am headed down to the West Monroe area (Duck Dynasty country) to visit my sister and husband.
  5. Hey, Duder, am glad that it may work out for you. Let us know. When I put that CL ad up, I figured that someone might have an interest!
  6. Hmmmm, interesting. Have a "wee bit o' Scottish roots, meself." My sister claimed that the 5.1 system I set up for her husband and her may have saved their marriage, as there frequently was "competition" between the bro-in-law wanting to hear what he wanted to hear on the TV in a very large great room, and my sister who often would be going back and forth into the large kitchen, often talking with one or more friends in there. Each would find it necessary to raise the volume to compensate for the latest volume increase of the other. The 5.1 enabled my B-I-L to hear his programs at a reasonable level, and my sister not go crazy with his volume, as she talked in the kitchen. The 5.1 kept both from having to "shout", or have it feel like there were dueling volume controls . . . .
  7. Smart man. Unusual (?) wife in that regard? Have no idea, really, if the ladies are as often interested in AV stuff as the guys, or not. Does not seem likely, but I do not know. I do know my own wife asks only that she "not hear static". Anything else, she is fine. Would be interesting if there were some sound data, or better yet, some responses from female forum members. Am not aware that I know any women who really are involved, either.
  8. Miner, incredible wife! Or . . . just seeing how much trouble you really are willing to bring down on yourself.
  9. Anybody with interest? NO AFFILIATION! https://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/4854889746.html
  10. Hey, Ibeza, Don't forget when you get back to school (Maryville, STL, right?), get in touch w/ me. My son got his BA in Accounting there, and it is just a few miles due east of me on Hwy 40/I64! Anyway, a couple of thoughts: I have a Pioneer Elite SC-35, and love it (4 years old, not a problem) This is a local CL listing. Is a beast, too, but not HDMI (but does show what can be available, in addition to the RX-V1800 above). Is a Yamaha RX-Z9, that was originally listed at $599, now is $550: https://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/4849050839.html Have you seen this brand new auction site (again, local here in STL), and I have seen some good deals result: http://314auctions.com/listing/sony-72-av-receiver-nib-145wx7-no-speakers/516 Good luck!
  11. Likewise. Aside from the Outlaw LFM-1 EX sub I recently bought new from an ID seller, and the Pioneer Elite SC-35 I bought reconditioned, all my speakers were CL. Of course, please don't inquire about the distances I may have driven for a few of them . . . . Oh, have an understanding wife, too--match.com, not CL!
  12. Absolutely! And to all you faithful believers in God and His mercy, thank you for your faith and faithfulness. Who knows (besides God) the how and what of the outcome(s)? I have seen Him use a circumstance or condition and apply a multiplier effect that has great leverage and economy. He promises believers that despite the condition or circumstance, He will cause good to come from it--usually in more and different ways and far greater than we could have imagined, over the years--to our betterment and His glory. So, yes, even those who do not know Shawn (or any of you personally), he is being prayed for, knowing that good will come.
  13. Fjd and Mallette and erik2A3, Thank you for the tenor and the information of your posts. I enjoyed reading them, and (re)considering the thoughts and experiences expressed. I learned some things, and, accordingly, continue the refinement of my various understandings. As a NON-expert, and not possessing the long-time experience with the wonderful (various) speakers and amplifiers you have, I can only take in intellectually what you write about and describe. And it is interesting. And it is fun to think about, write about and discuss, and to experience--even for a NON-expert, as I am. That all said, I absolutely love what the equipment I do have gives me. Though, would I be pulling my hair out and wearing sackcloth if I had Epic CF-4s instead of my KLF-30s? No--am sure this NON-expert would be thrilled and delighted with them. This is not said to downplay or discourage the other comments and posts, but simply to say "Thank you" to you for the enjoyable and (specifically) informing comments that you made. Jim
  14. Favog, am sure that nearly everyone here has a similar tale/experience as mine, so is nothing special. However . . . . I will never forget the two magnificent Dobermans I had. One male, one female. Gosh, they were wonderful dogs (around my 2 children, too--though, I never left them together unsupervised for any amount of time).
  15. Thanks. Will pass along that search term to my son re his pit bull.
  16. CECAA, don't know where you found that photo. The baby, of course is cute and good looking and sweet. That DOG, on the other hand, is fantastic looking. Obviously powerful, beautifully marked, and intelligent looking!
  17. Darn, don't you meet the best people here?!!!
  18. Expresso, and others, The specific dollar cost is high. The specific ability it gives you--priceless.
  19. Don't we all love to hear and know about people who have/continue to triumph, day by day by day. People that find a way, find their way, when surrender is so much easier. You don't have to do much, just give up. Blame life or others. Find some like-minded others who justify their beaten down attitude among each other. And the others, facing great difficulty head on. Not always succeeding, but succeeding one more time than they fail. Character is invisible, but so good to see. And it invariably manifests itself in ways that are visible, and humbling and inspiring to those who admire character!
  20. Yes, my "Meow" vocabulary and understanding are not very advanced. Am trying, though. Re "pitbulls" (not sure there is a common definition of them), my son encountered one on the street, as he was passing by. While the dog clearly needed some care, my son did manage to scoop him up and get him off the street. His implanted chip gave up no good intel, so my son ended up keeping him. The dog probably was about 2 years old, 70lbs, and a neck as thick as his jaw/skull. An absolute creampuff! Thinks he is a lapdog, and seems totally trustworthy around my 5 year-old grandson, and all others, too. Even around other dogs. Having had 2 wonderful Dobermans when my children were young, I am sure that I was less confident than my son is. Never really felt it smart to leave them unattended together for any time. Big dogs--and little dogs--still can be dogs. And it takes only one terrible moment and time . . . .
  21. Or perhaps he just doesn't care. It's worked for me so far. But I know how you feel because I always thought that too. But I also think whatever it was is already done. Damaged bodies, damaged minds, hearts, and lives hurt a lot. And then, the regret and guilt we heap upon ourselves when we contemplate the hurt parts. It is easy to feel ignored, or uncared-for, or worse, actually punished by God's --pick your term: wrath, indifference, justice, distance. But I know that the absolute perfect Father is not wrathful, indifferent, unjust, or distant. He knew us--and loved us--before He even created us. When we chose independence (making the decision to go against His one prohibition), we chose separation from God. Despite our defining choice, He has been willing to offer each of us perfect restoration and reunion--paid for entirely by Him. Again, our choice. What God wants is for each of us to delight in the perfect unity which His spirit offers. To choose rightly. The path to that knowledge, that decision, and that trusting surrender is very different in timing, and length, and "degree of difficulty" for each of us. And when we choose rightly and know and love God, and make choices in our lives that demonstrate and honor God, there is great rejoicing in Heaven! To the OPs and all those who may read this thread, thank you so much for your honesty and risk-taking in talking openly about very difficult and personally painful things. Because that which is true is a floor from which unknown height and breadth of growth occurs. And I so much prefer floors to ceilings!
  22. Hey, dtel and BigStew, bet you are good guys to know. And maybe one day we will have that opportunity. Would like that. And now, I think that I shall take these old bones off to bed for a period of R&R. See everyone tomorrow (?)!
