If the end result is intended, or may even be used, for pro use, then by all means replace them with new.  As was stated, actually having been used will affect their performance, same as with any overcurrent protection device (i.e. a 15 amp breaker in your service panel).

They are cheap enough and that is probably a good idea.

  2. They are on the OEM 904 crossovers. My intent is to build more rather than buy new ones as the price I was quoted was $200 per from Klipsch parts. This is not to replace a bad part.

I think they might be needed here as the tweeter is rated 100 watts and the bass bin 800. These seem to be in most Klipsch pro gear and I am not smart enough about electronics to know how important these are. Turns out the x110 is the important number.

Thanks Dean as always for your links.

When you bypass/disconnect the crossover on the LS2 and instead use an active electronic processor like an E-V Dx38, Yamaha SP2060, Xilica, etc., the peaks/resonances that some owners find very annoying (I haven't, but maybe I don't listen at high volume often enough to notice) can be eliminated easily, without causing any compromises anywhere else.

But Schu knew that already, right?

BTW, if anyone is referring to the infamous 148 Hz peak in the La Scala and La Scala II, according to everything I've read on the subject, it's not a resonance.  It's a peak caused by the geometry of the bass horn, which is why the much stiffer sidewalls of the LS2 don't make any difference in regards to the issue, although they do help to provide more and better bass over the first-gen La Scalas.

The peak may be difficult to eliminate with an analog EQ, but it seems to be no problem for the digital processors/EQ units to correct.

Yup but if you do not brace those sidewalls the best DSP in the world won't stop the cabinet resonance. I believe the cabinet resonance to be the bigger problem by far.

Yes I find it odd that folks listen to the speaker reviews (any audio reviews that play sound so you can hear how good something is) on youtube.  Unless something is blatantly bad, even then you might not know it, the reviews "listen to this" is questionable.

It is silly. There is a program for Firefox called "Youtube  video and audio downloader" that can give you a variety of ways to download from YT including audio only but so far all that I have played is decent but not great.

It’s not about the asking price. People can ask whatever price they want but it’s the fact that they ask a price then they get some quick interest so they say whoa! I need to up my price. These were listed for $600 the. $800 Now $1000. Maybe he thinks they’re on the bay and he’s bidding them up.

It is irritating when you miss a deal for any reason. Also known as you snooze you lose. Now if you had made a deal for a price and then went there and he had jacked it up, that is a different story and you walk away knowing the seller is a jerk. I imagine he has seen listing prices elsewhere and adjusted accordingly. It is just nuts how much used Klipsch has gone up in the last year here and I figure that the market is adjusting for the new Klipsch prices which were crazy higher than they had been. What really boggles my mind is all the Heresy's for 600 to 900. What all these really sell for I don't know.  $800 on Craigslist today. I sell Chorus speakers when I get them for about $1250. Crossovers recaped and a set of my LMAHL's in them so they are not stock either but I get that when I have them.

  6. Red color makes aggressive drivers. It is also like waving a red cape in front of the bull waiting to snag you. Bull is a cop for all you millennial types.

We had built a nightclub in Chicago and had to keep repairing the restroom walls in the Gent's room. It had started out red in color and I don't remember why the color was changed. There was an end result though and the wall went from red MF'er board to it's all cool board and the fights stopped.

It is very similar to what happened about a dozen years ago when Jubilees were starting to take hold for home systems. The most vehement criticisms came from folks who had never heard them.

Ha Ha how true. A while back I said black speakers ruled and veneer did not and got pummeled for that.

it would be cool if any  reviews of the CW4  can add a tune of a song actually playing

No, the only valid review is in person. There is no other way to listen and make an informed choice based on your own personal preferences.

This post, like many others I read, just really amuses me. It’s funny to read about the impressions and guesses of those that HAVENT heard this speaker by the so called experts vs those that HAVE heard  them. By the way......I am on the marketing side......lol!!!!

You did really good work on these. Until now I thought the CW's were big boomy boxes but not anymore. Of the ones you showed us the CW was the most improved and next was the phase plug in the 1132's which I also have had a chance to hear.

  9. OK I have some xdat files that work just fine. However in the last two days while setting up new files for some 904's I can't get right channel output. I go back to the xdat file for my S-MWM's and all is well. I have looked high and low for some setting I am missing and I can'y find one. I can post some files here if that will help but hoping someone has had this issue before and can tell me what to look for.

Going to reload the software next I guess.

  10. Seller is a decent guy I have dealt with before. He has made a living off audio equipment in various ways for many years now and expect him to try to get as much as he can for his gear. Sorry those $850 to $950 days are GONE. He may be high but you are low and good luck finding LSBR's in good shape for what you think is fair value. Seems to me they have gone up at least $300 in the last year or so. Based on what I see here in middle Tennessee.

Do they still teach hooked on phonics in Ann Arbor?  Zavier Simpson and Juwan Howard suggest they do.

I thought the Peoples Collective in Ann Arbor taught hooked on Ebonics?

These price hikes burn my ***. Yes it's the seller's right to price however they like, but do your research first. Takes a couple minutes.

Well get ready to be offended often because the price of used Klipsch is going up really fast. IF you can even find some close by. Klipsch with their latest price increase and the better PR they are getting has made these used speakers almost double from what I had been paying two+ years ago. Some people get lucky but most will not.

Are they all stock, or did Dave install some other goodies?

Rectangular SMAHL + DE120. Type E crossover rebuilt to AA configuration with Sonicaps and no zeners. Eminence Kappa 15C to replace the non stock K-33's that were in them and because I wanted to hear a set since so many here brag on them. Mid brace from dog house to sidewalls. Duratex. Extra screw driver also supplied because I care.

OK - Dave - here you go -

let 's take an example   :     2 amps  -100 watts pair of  speakers - 400 watts peak  -8 ohms -

a)-200 watts amp -you have 1/2 the rating for the peaks the speaker can handle /maximum 400 watts,-  but  the amp is already  distorting at 50% of the power , as the meters are very close to the red -- low damping factor , the amp is on the verge of clipping - raising the volume past 50%  , hits the read line --and affects the sound drastically , it is on the edge  - it is not just getting  louder , it is bad sound - -the bass is flabby , the mids - highs screech  rather than sparkle -hearing  damage is ++++++++++++-

b)- 400 watts  amp - 400 watts peak- the speaker can  handle  up to 400 watts   , the amp has 0 distortion at 25% level   -high damping factor ,clean , tight bass , clear highs , no overheating anywhere , no risk of damaging the speaker or the amplifier -

Bonus  headroom - -the sound is so well defined that you can turn down the volume rather that having to raise the volume to get more clarity from the mid/-highs- or a punchier bass   --

At half rated output the clipping monitor on the amp shows zero clipping. The lowest light never even starts glowing. I hardly ever go that loud and only do so with hearing protection on and let the visitor that wants to hear thump have at it. Half the rated output of my two amps into those S-MWM's is more than I care to handle.

How do you know this amp is distorting at the level you mention and what is your base line for that comment?

Indoors only for you or some out, too?

Indoors only so far. This spring though I am going to roll the big door up on the shop, point them out and let them rip and we shall see what there is to be had. You show up at SWAG and I might have a chance to do the same thing there.
