  1. I would browse the local craigslist for reference speakers. Yes reference sounds amazing. If space is an issue, look for current rb (reference bookshelf) or rsx series (no longer produced, but a very sleek and sexy satellite with enough umph to not disappoint). I have scoured the used market and have finally put together a respectable 7.1 rsx setup for less than $300 (which is silly considering the retail). The heritage are good speakers as well, but space should be considered before jumping into those. The larger reference speakers are about the best speakers you can get for the home, with respect to the palladium and thx lines. For the cost though their performance is unmatched. My small rsx setup was the second setup i purchased for my smaller living room. The basement has a 7.1 rf-7 setup that is pretty disgusting. I haven't finished the basement setup, but when I auditioned them, they sounded GREAT!
  2. I just had a run in with these B&W speakers. Dear lord are they sexy. Just curious why you decided to go back to klipsch? They seem every bit as high end as klipsch... And seemingly in smaller packages. I saw a theatre setup at a local theatre store and they sounded pretty dang good. How do these compare to the reference series? They didn't seem like they could hold a candle to palladium, but perhaps B&W has a series that is positioned to compete with klipsch premium line. Still a very pretty looking set, I was torn between B&W and klipsch. B&W seems to be all the talk locally.
  3. I was reading this and was like... A new legend rf-7 with matching rs-7 and rc-7... And thought omg, I must get these new improved versions. The rsw-15 is a sub i still needed tracking down, but I can just get this new one... Then I saw the time stamp and realized... I have these legendary speakers. Really a gorgeous set if you ask me!
  4. The movie was okay i suppose. Not really a movie I would watch again. I did recently rewatch gladiator on netflix... Good movie that!
  5. Man I feel foolish only joining the audio scene at age 30... Others started when they were 15... Man i suck!
  6. Actually looked on ebay. I say it is probably a ct80 subwoofer from velodyne. The guy threw it in for free so I am not complaining lol.
  7. Honestly I don't know for sure. The actual woofer cone looks to be made out of a rigid paper covered in black tar. The dust cover covers the front except for the bottom inch or so which looks like a vent or something. It also has a large heat sink mounted on the back. I will look at the back of it and let you know.
  8. Well as it would happen, I did a tempest search for klipsch rsx yesterday when I woke up, and an rsx-3 set came up in Omaha. The set included: 4 rsx-3 sattelites 1 rcx-3 center 1 rw-10 sub 1 onkyo 7.1 receiver All for $200!!! I immediately called the guy and got confirmation nobody had snatched up the set in the 14 hours since it had been posted. They were available. I showed my wife, she gave me a pre-WAF and I made plans to pick the set up. When I got there he told me the sub wasn't working properly cutting in and out. So he told me if I gave him asking price he would toss in a velodyne sub for free, with a box of speaker wire and cables... What a steal! I know nothing about velodyne, so any insights there would be appreciated. It was fairly heavy considering it was an 8" sub
  9. I just recently (yesterday) seized on a good deal for a 5.1 rsx-3 setup and he gave me a rw-10 sub. He told me that the sub cuts in and out and when he opened it up it had a wire (black) just hanging there. When he reconnected it, it still wasn't working right... So he threw in a velodyne sub for free... I really want the klipsch working though. Any thoughts on what it could be? I will probably fire it up in the next week once I get the power cord from him (forgot to give it to me).
  10. I will have to order from knuconcept. I ended up not getting the 100 ft spool and tried to make my own banana plugs from some 10-12 gauge wire from the local schaefers. Ended up spending about $50 on two 6 ft lengths to power my 2 front speakers in the living room setup. The new speakers sound superb!
  11. What is the pricing for these things? Is the pro line much more expensive than the palladium line?
  12. Hey scrappy, when you decide to switch out this setup, give me a holler. These speakers look to be putting you in the hearing failure category their previous owner had lol... They are cursed!
  13. Will the denon x4000 have enough power to drive my klipsch 7.1 setup? -2 rf-7 -1 rc-7 -4 rs-7 -rw-10 I am just worried about under powering them. I have heard it is just as bad to underpower a speaker as it is to over power them. Is there any chance of they denon x4000 blowing my speakers? I'm looking for the sweet spot.
  14. That wasn't my intention, I will be running 2 wires separately but they will be run together and then one splitting off when I reach the first rear speaker.
  15. Well my priority is going to be wiring the 4 sattelites, I am lucky because 2 of them will be at most a 15 foot length of wire (going up a wall and then along the ceiling) the last 2 speakers are in my rear but are fairly close together, I plan on running both of their wires together and then splitting one off when I reach the first rear speaker. I may end up using more than 100 ft, but maybe I will get lucky when wiring the 4. The lcr speakers and sub i plan on buying high end wire and plugs for ultimate connectivity.
  16. This stuff has the clear wire casing with 2 different colored copper wires. I thought the behind the wall stuff had white opaque casing specially rated for fire safety? I am getting it for .50 a foot which is half off retail. Is there better quality than monster wire?
  17. I had a question about speaker wire. My local craigslist has a 100 foot spool of monster cable wire xphp-c1 and the seller will sell it for $50. Does this seem like a good deal? Is this a good wire to run for my 7.1 rf-7 setup? What is the community consensus, and what would you recommend i look at for running/hiding these in my finished basement?
  18. I'm very familiar with size reduction on computers, i just didn't know if the smart phone had gotten smart enough with photo editing. But yes, the short horn looks exactly as pictured on the klipsch website. A nice klipsch speaker from a near lost era. My family gave me some weird looks when I showed them the speakers, as far as they are concerned the old beast is an out dated gimmick... Sad
  19. I did look at the short horn on the klipsch website, it doesn't really have any specifications for the actual speakers except for the ranges of the speakers.
  20. I have pictures on my phone, but every time i try to load them it says the file is too large. Suggestions?
  21. Well yesterday my friend pulled the trigger and me and him drove 3 hours to a small town in Kansas and got some short horns that are circa 1962. We were told by the seller that these are a rare variant that has a Jensen 15" woofer. The set sounded excellent, and aside from a few cosmetic blemishes, look very good for a 52 year old speaker set. Does anyone know what the specs of these speakers are? What kind of watt rms should we feed them? Also, is original speaker cloth a big issue, or is it something we can redo without affecting the overall value of the speakers themselves? Also purchased was a marantz 2240 that seemed to power them nicely and didn't sound nearly as fatiguing. Sadly when we plugged it in and ran it ourselves, we found the main channel has a volume issue (the volume doesn't go down and is extremely high) the the right channel started going out. When we fiddled with the input wires then the marantz powered off and did not turn on again... It is a beautiful amp and I hope we can save it.
  22. If I had the cash I would have no problem purchasing them. Alas I don't have the cash. I know you said that your dream was to put them in a larger room/house to accomodate them, is that dream really completely outside the realm of possibilities? You put a lot of work into these horns, it would be a shame to achieve your dream only to find you lost your horns somewhere during the journey. I don't know your story, but if it were me I would just mothball them for the time being, until the day you can unleash the fury in a healthy environment. Just my 2 cents. Since 99% of your buyers market are not audiophile, and the upgrades would be lost on them it would be hard for most to justify the purchase of these speakers (also your market is further shrunk due to the cost prohibitive nature of shipping). A lot of people would look at 50 year old speakers and say... They are ancient and unworthy... I know this is a silly notion, but ignorance and lack of understanding run rampant in the modern age.
  23. Would be interested in any of the x series speakers my op just has my ideal wants. I would love to get some rvx series speakers. Bumping to the top:
  24. Scrappy! You were supposed to sell to me! Haha... Bill any desire to sell your setup?
  25. Well I got my 2 rsx-4s in yesterday. The seller packed them beautifully and they look near mint (very minor scuffing on the cases and dust covers are a little dusty). Overall I am very impressed. I had seen an rsx satellite years ago when I was first introduced to klipsch. But the memory was vague and did not do justice to the rsx. These satellites are huge in comparison to the boxed theatre sets at walmart. One of these could easily equal 2 or even 3 of those speakers. It is very sleekly designed and well thought out. Mounting them will be easy since the foot of each satellite has a cover plate that reveals screw holes for mounting. I have yet to listen to them, but for $68 shipped this pair was a steal! Now if I can just track down 4-5 other rsx speakers to surround myself in haha.
