  1. Is the blue record included, Joe? These turntables will play black vinyl too, won't they?
  2. Dean, If you get Jubilees, you should check out the Jubilee record label too.
  3. I still remember hearing the 1951 mono version in elementary school. The teachers used to play it for us on one of those heavy portable record players, once a year in our classroom, for two or three years in a row. The 1963 stereo recording I have is much better sonically but its the 1951 cast that still does it for me. Beautiful stuff and it still makes tears well up in me. Monotti wrote this opera in 1951, expressly for a TV broadcast at Christmastime.
  4. My guru Mark just recently put up a webpage of his classical recommendations. We don't agree on every individual choice of course but he has extremely informed opinions and the most amazing music memory I've ever witnessed. Whereas sometimes I base my favorite on the cover art, Mark actually listens to the performance. If I had to buy anything without hearing it in advance, I would never hesitate if Mark recommended it. His overall best choice for Tchaikovsky is Mariss Jansons / Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra on Chandos. It's just over a hundred bucks on amazon. (I see in PrestonTom's post above that this is also the Penguin recommended complete set.) http://www.amazon.com/Tchaikovsky-Complete-Symphonies-Pyotr-Ilyich/dp/B000000AID/sr=8-2/qid=1170442024/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-0508724-7961742?ie=UTF8&s=music Mark's lists: http://home.earthlink.net/~m9a9r9k/
  5. My Model Cs do not have kickplates. Yes, the kickplates are just to protect the bottom edge. Mine, for example, have tiny bits missing, but a whole lot less than one would expect, since I've moved them here there and everywhere for almost 20 years.
  6. Not at all. I was just assuming that you had paid the necessary royalties to the publishing company.
  7. Depends on the entire set of facts, but generally speaking: No, it's not okay if it's just a transfer of an LP you have. Yes, if you don't own the LP.
  8. What did your girlfriend think, PaulN?
  9. This device got horrible reviews in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. I agree with PaulN: Why transfer in the first place? Listen to the record. Play other CDs in your car or listen to the radio. There are almost limitless other choices available and there's no good reason that anyone has to play in the car something that he has only on record. The only exception being if you make a CDR of a rare LP that you've borrowed from someone--then it's okay. And then of course you wouldn't want to use this TEAC-POS.
  10. How true that is. Don't these folks look seriously into vinyl?
  11. Great work, Bluesboy. I looked over in your new thread.
  12. And since SET amps can get very loud, make sure to use hearing protection.
  13. Better than seeing "Hail, Hail, Rock and Roll," I was at the two back-to-back concerts at the Fox in St. Louis that were filmed for the movie. You've had 10 people in this thread so far tell you why Berry is in the list. Are you more stubborn than a mule?
  14. Yeah, right, what do the editors of a mag called GUITAR WORLD know about guitar, anyway?
  15. Hey Proko, Long time, no see. Welcome back. By the way, I seriously dislike "The Pines of Rome."
  16. Can't you get this sound on anything and everything if you play it through La Scalas?
  17. No, the list was made first strictly by audio. Then these guys found the best video of that song's performance by the artist.
  18. Sorry, Old Buck, but you're wrong on this. The list was determined by guitar EXPERTS.

  20. If you are getting a middle void, then you would benefit. Whether you get it or not is room dependent and seating dependent. Another Cornwall would be best although a Heresy would work.
  21. Agreed. But also, he's the 2nd owner so the first owner could have listened to them for thousands of hours.
  22. That's saying it's hard to detect but clearly evident. So which one is it?
