  3. Hi Schu, Thanks, yes the upgrades will be my next project. Re: the veneer, here some picts. Cheers,
  4. Dear all, Just to give an update... Finally my 1981 Cornwalls that I got from ebay are arrived. They came in extremely well packaged. They have travelled from US all the way down to here in the sandpit, almost half of the globe. Both are still in their original crossovers & drivers. Some scratches & dings on the veneer on both speaker but it's not so visible from seating position. I've been using 2-ch of RF62 for the last 6 years & these are my 1st Cornwalls ever. My set up are Denon 2809 receiver which goes through the VTA SP12 pre-amp & Latino's ST120 amp. Mostly I listen to jazz & classic using AppleTV (Flac), all using only 2-ch fronts. I placed those Cornwall right next to the wall on the side and around 60cm from the rear wall with toe-in about 45 deegrees to my listening position. Distance are around 3.5m between the CWs and 3m from each to my seating position. Compare to the RF62, at the same volume level & tone control set up, these Cornwall bring up more details, bass and wider sound stage. The bass is huge as to my taste and it's not boomy. The last two days i've been listening for at least 4-6 consecutive hours and it wasn't fatiguing. When i played Norah Jones' "Seven Year", the sounds of the hands on the strings can be heard in more details. Roberta Flack's voice was heard just like she sing up in front of me. The sound of Coltrane's sax also much more details & I could hear some of his breaths in between the passages. So far I love the way those 2 CWs sounding & I will do some upgrades on the crossover as well as the driver, but not in the near future. Thanks to all who gave me some helps on the info re: those "beasts". Warmest regards from the Sandpit, Jimmy PS: Herewith I attached pictures of the CWs.
  5. Thanks, Moray. Just to info that initially I was looking for Chorus/Chorus II but did't find any sellers whom willing to ship it. Finally i found two potential sellers (CW I & II) who are willing to ship those speakers. Cheers, Jimmy
  6. Hi Gents, Finally i decided to go on Cornwall I, with some of the thoughts that it's alot easier for me as a 1stimer on Conrwall to do future upgrade myself, to work from the back panel. I'll keep an updtae or maybe start a new thread once I received the speakers. Thanks for all advices. Cheers, Jimmy
  7. Hi Moray,Thanks for the advice and yes i thought about that but at this time, I think it's better for me to get something that a lot cheaper & in goodworking condition and later on, slowly, I will rebuild the CW to my liking. The problem for me right now is the shipping, so at ths time I will spend most on the shipping. Cheers, Jimmy
  8. So, it looks like for the later CW II is a bit hazle to do some works on. Alright, i'll keep update for the decission. Thanks, alot... Cheers
  9. The Cornwall I and Cornwall II are both good sounding speakers, so based on your current choices I would pick the one that is in excellent condition. Also, be aware that there is an early version of the C II and a later version of the C II. The early version is physically more similar to the Cornwall. The later version (1986-1990) has the flush surface mounted mid horn and tweeter horn and the crossover is attached to the rectangular speaker wire cup on the back of the speaker, which is easy to remove. If you plan to buy a larger style high end crossover for a later version C II, you will need to remove the woofer to install the bigger board and to snip and splice some wires, then re-install the woofer. https://2d73e25b29782b6d6766-9c8af5cbfef16739445bc76457060528.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/CW_Time_Line_MK_070522_635120773187750000.pdf Any listeners with lack of bass from Cornwalls may have a speaker wire polarity problem between the amp and speaker, or between the internal crossover and the woofer, or possibly a room acoustics condition. I like my Cornwall II's. Later version Cornwall II pictured below. @Khornukopia, If you have to do some works on the CW II, can you open the whole front panel/have you opened it before or you have to remove each of the component (woofer/mid horn)? Just to add some infos, the CW I is from 1981 & the II's from 1988. The II is exactly the same with the pict you attached. Cheers, Jimmy
  10. Thanks, Gents for the advices. Look forward to hear some others who have worked on CW II, is more difficult to change the Xover compare to CW I (front mounted vs rear mounted)? Cheers, Jimmy
  11. Hi guys, Just want to ask, if you have to choose between Cornwall I or II, which one you prefer & why? Is it true that the CW I is easier to work with because all drivers are mounted from the back while CW II is front mounted? Both seller said they are in good working condition, so no need to upgrade Caps/Xover anytime soon, but I will do the upgrade anyway. Cosmetically, the CW I has few dings here & there and does't seat on riser while the CW II is excellent (from the pictures). I'm in a position that can not audition both CWs. Any suggestions & advices much appreciated. Thanks, Jimmy
  12. popalock, Welcome to Middle East...i live next door, Abu Dhabi... Cheers, Jimmy
  13. Oh...and if you have to do manual bias... Don't take any alcohol prior you do the bias setting...alcohol+small screw driver+some small holes+high current = are not good combination...
  14. As far as I know, what you're looking is only the outer case of the transformer..but I'm not sure, maybe somebody here who has more knowledge about this can chime in. Oh by the way, until I received my tube amp, I have never had expereince with them at all...and it's just less than a year ago. Cheers, Jimmy
  15. Hi Schu, I think it depends on your equipment's manual but basically setting the bias is is a similar procedure. I have Bob Latino's VTA ST120, which has 2 bias set-port on the front panel. You can use a normal voltmeter and set it to DCV which has value of .000. Then you need to gorund the black color cable to any part of the chasis (or maybe some amp has dedicated GRND port) & the red to the Bias-set point (in my case, it has 2 bias-set point per channel). Then you will see the value on the voltmeter (the values depend on your equipment/refer to your manual). In my case, to set the bias, it needs to be set in Linear/apentode mode. For me, I check & adjust the bias once in a month as per instruction in the manual. I hope this help. Cheers, Jimmy
