  1. Bob Carver is a true legend- sad to see it all come to an end. Here's a link to the Carversite thread where Jim Clark explains the situation:

    https://thecarversite.com/topic/26870-bob-carver-llc-bc-audio-llc-what-is-the-difference-what-happened-why-closing/

    "What happened?

    1) Glass audio crashed in 2021 and left Bob Carver Co closed, with backorders and 2000 unanswered emails.

    2) I talked to Bob and Peggy about building high quality products and starting yet again another company to build Bob Carver tube amps.

    3) In Feb 2022 Bob Carver LLC (Bob and Peggy) and BC Audio (Jim and Lerma) were formed. The Crimson 275 was a planned source of revenue while designing other new world class products.

    4) A 'well connected' industry veteran convinced me he had an existing supply chain that could provide manufacturing engineering at competitive prices and production in compressed time frames. The cost and time required were not in the ballpark. The cost were exceeded by 300% and the time required was exceeded by 600% further exhausting our resources.

Two months after our start-up, Audio science review came out with a devastating review of the Crimson 275. Photographic evidence of the 275 using clearly labeled 15 watt output transformers in the 75 watt amp, gave ASR a 'kick me' sign the size of a billboard on the companies back, it's very sad. Also ASR showed a picture of the unused earth ground pin and told readers that the 275 could result in a 700 volt shock to the user, although 2 prong power cords are common in audio, using a 3 conductor cord and leaving the earth pin unused was another 'kick me' sign on the companies back.

Bob requested that we offer refunds for the 275 and offer to rework the grounding and polarity issue at no charge with free return shipping.

Instead of BC Audio having revenue from the Crimson 275 as a start-up company to survive on, while the new world class products were coming, we started out giving refunds and free rework, being accountable for a company before our time, that made serious mistakes and errors in judgment, imho.. BC Audio paid dearly in terms of standing behind the old company and the damage to the brand resulting from ASRs review. Without revenue, we carried on for 2 years.

Today, BC Audio is closing. Sales are very slow. Customers still read ASR and contact me weekly with concern that their Carver Crimson 275 will kill them.

We still get pictures of the 15 watt transformers in the 75 watt amp and called a fraud, scam, liar and other unpleasant terms. Rating the 275 @ 75w, 20Hz to 20K further depleted credibility in the brand. I can't change the past or go back and slap the people who made those choices.. They will have to live with it. I made course corrections but the heavy damage was done.

We built one batch of 285s that are truly world class and excellent, but failed to launch as a company, manly do to baggage from the past attempts at building these products before my time, imho..

BC Audio LLC was founded in Feb 2022 by Jim Clark.  Everything we produced met specs and was perfectly safe from Feb 2022 forward. Products produced by prior companies attempts at producing Bob Carver products, like those reviewed in ASR are not the responsibility of BC Audio. BC Audio produced world class products that we stand behind and take great pride in."

A really interesting project. It remains the two-way principle but with a little more "air". Do you hear a change in the spatiality? The staggering of the instruments etc.?

This is an interesting topic my 335's and the forte IV's have that open airy sound that the ki-396's do not have both of those are three-way vs the two-way but my ki-362's are three-way and do not have it and my 325's which are two-way do? Don't believe it's really a 2 vs 3 way necessarily?

Is it just one of the speakers?…. I would return it personally.

I would pull the grill cover to make sure nothing bled through to the drivers if its just the foam that's an easy fix either wash it or a little paint if need be. Not sure it would be worth the hassle and expense of returning the whole speaker(s) for just the foam / grills, for me anyway.

I recently acquired a set of Chorus 1 that are missing the woofers. I know that the stock woofers are k-48. So spending a little money is not an issue.

    Thanks

Call or email Klipsch customer support if you can send them pictures of your speakers and serial numbers you should be able to order new k-48-st woofers. Otherwise I'd try and pick up a used set of k-48's from eBay just make sure they're 4 ohm as I've seen both 4 & 8 ohm versions.

Dropped 20# just by staying outta the grocery store.  Saw the Doc last week and he said how'd you lose 23

    # in 3 months.  Told him I got smart and realized I didn't need all the crap in the grocery stores. :)

They typically put all the "good stuff" in the outer "U" of the store with produce on one side, dairy on the other and meats in the middle / back- everything in the center / middle of the store is processed junk.

Is there a way to date them based on appearance, driver model numbers, the “..completed and inspected” internal label, and/or crossover components?

The forte 1 were produced 1985-1989 the very first run early models have a round input cup marked 4 ohms the later models have the larger rectangle input cup marked 8 ohms. Not sure how long they ran the early vs older model but that would be the only way to guess age that I know of.

Well if the Americans added stuff to the British stuff

Of course they'd have to (in my best Cartman voice) "put a women in it and make her gay."

I'll keep posting with updates when I have some thing good to share.  The first thing I plan to do is buy a good subwoofer.  That may very well be the least invasive approach to getting this balanced out.  V/r, Rob

Only read about the first half page then skipped ahead to see this post my first thought was to add a sub or two a stereo pair plus an LFE if you want to get extreme that should give you plenty of balance let the Heresys do their thing above 50hz without straining to get more or just trade them in for the forte iv which are similar footprint with lots of good strong bass

Long story shortened; the electrical transformer that feeds our house, shorted out due to vines growing up the pole, and into the wiring. Only one piece of equipment in the house was damaged during the rather spectacular “event”. Yep, you guessed it. So back it went, to Greg at Nelion audio, after an extensive repair, at a more than fair cost, it’s once again back in service, and as good as new. I’ve recently sent my Carver M-1.0T to them for refurbishment & upgrade to their M-1.0T mkII opt002 specs,

Sorry about the bad luck, glad Greg was able to fix it. I've been curious about the 1.5t MK II- love that amp stock. Rumor has it Greg is working on a MK-II for Sunfire amps as well.

does SMA or B stand for anything?  SMAll Beast? Is there a "I" variant?

That's a good question- I'm certain the "B" stands for black but have no idea about the SMA. Small to Medium Application?

  11. Right on, I've heard nothing but good things about that amp, glad it is working for you. I did some tube rolling in my Schiit Freya preamp which uses the 6NS7's and could hear pretty big differences between the tube sets. My Carver RAM 285 comes with all Tung-Sol tubes I believe KT-120's power tubes and 12ax7 & 12AT7 input tubes- I have not considered trying different input tubes but maybe I should?

So, I just got a pair of Stark Sound's SW15 and trying to set it up.  Trying to narrow down the XO on the sub.  Started with 80hz and now at 65hz.  So far, because the Klipsch Chorus II are so efficient, I have the sub's volume up to 3 o'clock, 5 being loudest and 7 being all the way down.  Still it provides very little output at listening levels. What are you guy's XO point on your subs in relation with the C2s?  Are you using software to help tune in the sub or just by ear?

When I ran a sub with my CH2's I'd cross them over at 50hz strictly for music. Love the bass from the CH2 and didn't want to muddy them up or interfere with the speakers already abundant bass in the above 50hz region. Plus with the crossover set low on the sub I found it easier to blend so I couldn't hear where the bass notes were coming from- kind of annoying when the sub draws attention to itself while playing music IMO. Best thing to do is experiment and find what works best for you in your room as all it costs you is a little bit of time good luck!

Any way mine arrived. Didn't hand a time to unpack it. But if it will confirm it's value, I'll probably buy 3 more.

I was thoroughly impressed with mine for what it is, especially for the price. All my speakers are direct radiator with pro 15" woofers (k-48 variants) and the amp did seem to struggle a bit driving those which is really no surprise. I can see many situations where one would be perfectly happy with the PA5, hopefully yours is one of them.

Just a tip.. for best results….you want that fan blowing the the other direction  Sweet amp btw.

Thanks man its temporary until I cut in my vent system the amp doesn't really run hot I'm more concerned about the Pre-amp boxed in above it been contemplating an open air rack so I have some place for my computer as well that's not on top of my speakers. The amp is sweet best I've ever owned low level detail and bass is incredible with very nice appropriately sized soundstage depth. Seems to have the best qualities of SS and tube tech I'm very happy with it.

What’s in the 396 box (is that a full speaker or did you take the drivers out)?

Those are my 362's I picked up recently I pulled the woofers out for the 396 project I thought about stuffing the 396 parts into the 362 cabinets but I'd have to cut the cabinet to do that and they are almost new. Since the Chorus II cabinets were already set up as 2-way figured I'd give them another go and glad I did so far. Low level detail is not as good as the 335's or the forte IV's but still good and they sound really nice at normal levels.

Honestly, I've thought about doing the same so I wouldn't need the 5 db of PEQ and hopefully end up with something more attractive.

Yeah mine are still a work in progress I need to recess the horn and repaint the baffle then I can throw the grill covers back on that would help clean things up quite a bit. Bass so far is very punchy and tight- the ST woofers are slightly different than the stock Chorus k48k, magnet is slightly smaller in diameter but a bit thicker. From what I've read slightly heavier as well, not sure how much that would effect the sound characteristics if at all. The Chief has said the ST is a suitable replacement in the Chorus models.
