  1. I have audessey xt32 on a Marantz 7009 which I ran, so I think the receiver is accurate, but yeah concerts are recorded at a higher volume than movies. At the time I did not think it was very loud. 1.5 hours of non-stop cymbal crashes isn't part of a normal movie experience though.
  2. I've got two of them. For movies, they crank out more sound than we can handle to be honest. I would still like to see a pro-sumer offering though, something revolving around high power and long-throw 18's.
  3. I have this same exact setup, also using the wireless kits, mainly so I could freely move them around and experiment. They don't do what you say, but, they interfere with my wireless router. I have to separate the transmitter away from my router or else my router simply won't work at all. Otherwise they work fine. I live out in the country though, if there's any interference it would probably be from something I have control of. The only things I don't like at all is that there seems to be a threshold on how much of a signal turns them on. For example running Audessey when you're trying to set it at 75 db, that's not enough signal to turn them on, they just sat there at least at first, I turned them on manually. I just don't know for sure if that's the subs or the wireless. Also I wish you could use one transmitter for two receivers but that's not a big deal.
  4. I'm curious about your placement, you did not elaborate on that.
  5. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that two channel stereo on the same disc doesn't even seem to have the same frequency response. I can understand extra effects but the 5.1 channel version of multiple concerts is so much more advanced than the stereo version that I just don't get it.
  6. Yeah it's just the whole more or less calling BS when somebody does that gets me. Regardless, I'm sure these are quite nice especially with four, I have no reason to doubt that the results were anything less than exceptional. Besides, I'm just ribbing people anyway, it's the American thing to do.
  7. Don't... con-cen-trate on the finga or you weel miss all that hea-ven-lee glo-ree.
  8. Kraken is really rich and strong, tastes nothing like white rum. It's all I buy anymore. Thanks. My wife and I are big fans of south Florida and Caribbean vacation spots and fell in love with the colorful houses that you often find in such places, plus we've been big Jimmy Buffett fans for the last 20 years. So, when we built a new house, everything was themed like that, pastels, beach art, multiple swordfish mounts, the whole 9 yards. When it came time to put the media room together, we tried a formal and nice paint theme and décor but it just never felt right. Switching everything to black and calling it the pirate room felt more appropriate. The only problem is it is a total PITA if not impossible to get decent pictures due to the rock bottom light reflective value of the paint, plus finding classy pirate décor is very difficult, most pirate décor is of the super-cheesy cartoonish type. Finding dark, serious, antique'ish looking stuff that doesn't clash against a true black wall is harder than it sounds.
  9. I guess my biggest question at this point is why concerts in 2.0 sounds so much different than 5.1. It blows my mind how much it comes alive, even seemingly from the same set of speakers. Just seems like the roar of the crowd, screaming guitar solos, and bass drums ought to at least sound remotely similar but that doesn't seem to be the case. On more than one recording it literally sounds dead and boring in 2.0 mode, switch to 5.1 and good lord it sounds sweet.
  10. Hey now, you're not allowed to have that kind of reaction with residential oriented Klipsch subs according to some people here, it's a rule or something. It has to say SVS or have the number "18" on it.
  11. They also told me the JVC 4910 which they advertise for $5,195 isn't any better than the Sony 40 something which is $2,000 right now, said the black level is splitting hairs and is negligible.
  12. I've always avoided scotch because my uncle would drink about a gallon of it every day. Yeah. I do enjoy rum nowadays though. Normal rum sucks but I have a thing for Kraken. It's almost like bourbon except it actually tastes good as well as being and tasting significantly stronger. Plus, my home theater is pirate themed. You can't drink bourbon in the pirates lair, rum is the rule.
  13. My wife was the same way at first but now she's driving the HT mods as much as I am. Biggest issue is that hardly anybody else has a nice setup so it's easy to go with the flow and get a traditional couch, tv, center, etc. Anything other than that seems like a weird idea at first.
  14. Open your wallet, take your man card out, and cut it in half.
  15. Based on the multiple mistakes I made with my house, I'd at least take that fireplace and put it in that cubby hole off in the upper right, fire a projector against that top wall, and have two rows of three seats facing up. Actually unless that is a window or door on the bottom, I'd face everything down. Move that electrical door back to the back of the electrical room. That way you can have subs in the front corners. You will have a big open area as a lounge and card playing area next to the fireplace while still having a non-distracting dedicated theater area with a good layout on the other side of the room.
  16. Only thing that really stands out to me is the rear surrounds off in a far corner. That's not going to gain you much of anything, they're too close to the side speakers. Ideally they should be straight behind you. I'd stick one on each side of that storage closet in the middle before I put the 7.1/rear speakers way back in those corners.
  17. The new Atmos recommendations are to run them at the same height as your mains. If they want to lift the sound stage up they'll kick in the ceilings. Used to they had to rely on extra height from the surrounds to pull off a "panning overhead" effect. My only problem with floor standers is that I found that if you had a curved row of seats with a high back, it blocked the speakers, plus it does take up floor space. I opted for higher up on the wall because of this. Otherwise I believe floor standers that match your mains would be best.
  18. The Quake II soundtrack which everybody said was Nine Inch Nails but apparently it was Sonic Mayhem. If you're an old school gamer this is about the most fitting halloween music ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n875Rdxl12k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvRYVSQS2_s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeVFe16HHuQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQdrV-ctMVE
  19. The Nightmare before Christmas soundtrack. most anything by White Zombie The Call of Ktulu by Metallica is scary has hell according to Kirk Hammet who is a horror collector several Godsmack songs, Voodoo for example. Although there is no lyrics and little music, I think their drum battles are scary sounding.
  20. Yeah but it has to be the Hocus Pocus version. It's a rule.
  21. Think it was a short? Interesting. I'm surprised it worked in the first place.
  22. Last night I watched the Stone Temple Pilots concert at -25 db, thinking that was pretty mild. I went to bed and my right ear was ringing just like my left one does. Really disappointed. I hope to goodness that these horns aren't making things worse. I'll have to go back to soft domes or something if so.
  23. I have some rear ported bookshelves and they sound nice, the bass is thick yet accurate, but, I have plenty of space behind them and they're not inside of a bookshelf. Big difference. I can't imagine rear ported speakers flat up against a wall and having a panel on all four sides.
