  1. That's what I was going to say. I kept my RF-25's and added the RC-25, RS-3'S and KB-15's to my set. I'm now running a 9.2 setup in my living room along with the 9.2 setup in my family room. I refinished of my R-3's with Duratex Rollergrade Paint in black, and the speakers look better than they did when purchased. I also refinished and older KSC C-1 center channel with it. It gives a stipple finish, and can be watered down for a smoother finish if needed. I chose not to water down for the smoother finish, but figured I'd show a finished product. If you use a smoother finishing roller then the one that comes with it,it will be a smooth finish, otherwise watered down and orange skin texture and they are very hard to scratch.
  2. mattSER, aren't you selling speakers? I thought I saw a post where you are, or you responded to a post for S-7's and RC-52. NEVRL 8, I'd inquire about these, and then add in the towers. Those in my opinion would be a much better fit sound quality wise than the R-28. I have the ICON KF-28 and the other speakers to match, and although they are O.K. for HT, they lack in music in my opinion. I also own the RF Series which I pieced together after joining this forum, and purchased a few speakers (1 set RS-3) that had some slight damage to the vinyl and a few dings. All I did was take the vinyl off, sand them down, and refinished them with a speaker paint and they look better than new. The speakers I'm talking about if they are in fact through mattSER were going for $300.00 per the pair, and $300.00 for the center, plus shipping. If not for sale mattSER,I apologize, thought I saw somewhere where they were or you replied to a question about them. There is another thread with Mister B selling, maybe that's where I got your response?
  3. when you purchase the paint if spraying right next to the paint is usually an attachment you get get that acts as a sprayer attached to the can.You can hold it to get a more uniform spraying action and it will give a better coat. Just ask at the place you get it from and they will show you where it is.

    Yamaha rxv573

I've had both the 573,675, the Denon e400 and they do power the speakers, but felt there was a lack of space being filled. The clarity was definitely better with my Yamaha RX A2020 and my Denon x4000, if you want more power with the Denon you can do the x3100 (110 watts per channel). It's a few steps above the e400,has a better Audyssey set-up and a deeper wider room filling sound. If you go up to next level say the x4000 or the newer models, the Audyssey is even better and also has a separate setup for the subs channel (they are rated 125 watts per channel). The wattage rating on Denons boxes and what big box stores say are in 6 ohm speakers, not 8 ohm speakers so it's confusing. I have the RF-25'S and the ICON KF-28 and can attest that the higher power rating made them sound better when volumes were risen and the rooms sounded fuller. My rooms are 14x24, and 17x22 and are more than amply filled in. I am also a nooby and had similar questions when I joined. What will happen if you keep the lower watted receiver is that the sound will "crack" at higher levels or "clip" with continual loud volumes. I listen to music and movies 50/50 so I push all 7/9 channels in my receivers and don't use an external amp. Others on here will say that you don't need the higher powered wattage, but speakers build and time frames they were built will play a big factor. Older speakers that had the large capacitors in the crossovers were more efficient than today's speakers. You can push some older Klipsch speakers with an ipod, but couldn't do that with today's because of efficiency they lack vs older speakers. So if you had an older speaker setup, you wouldn't need the higher watted receiver because the speakers were more efficient, but as some will say "lack in sound quality"" because of the woofer and tweeter build vs. today's speakers which are using titanium or aluminum tweeters for the "higher/tinier" sound. I personally like the sound of the older speakers and the warmth they produced with the silk domed tweeters, but others will disagree, which is all based on personal sound. When you start looking at some of the other forum questions on here and the discussions they have you will notice a lot of people on here prefer the older setups because of the efficiency and sound quality compared to today's newest models, not to say they don't have them but the older speakers seem to be the thing on here. And most of the people on here are extremely knowledgable about what they are talking about. I would also call Klipsch and speak to them directly, as well as the company you have a receiver with/may purchase for a few pointers also. Can't hurt and the worst thing that can happen is you get an education on what to do and why you are doing it.
  5. as long as you thin the paint out slightly and dab the sleeve, you won't have any issues with the holes getting clogged up. use a 1/4 inch nap on the sleeve (which is used for doors). Before you paint them, take the roller, a piece of 2-3 inch wide tape, and roll the roller on the sticky side. It will take any of the loose fibers and remove them. Then make sure the paint is thinned, dab the roller almost dry then paint the grills.

    Tube Amp

I kinda figured it would be low, but figured I'd ask. I'm extremely uneducated at this point when it comes to audio, so I'm going to have a bunch of questions that may seem trivial to most members here. Unfortunately, when I purchased my 1st set of Klipsch Speakers in 1996 (KSB 3.1,KSB 1.1,KSC C-1) I fell out of the loop with audio because they were an excellent speaker at the time and I never had any issues with them. It is just recent that I sold part of the system to update things and have opened up a can of worms for myself as I know how I get when going into another "hobby" as I'm sure others on here do. So I started jumping around not knowing anything about timbre matching or even what it was. All of these different scenarios on room size etc...is brand new to me. I am hoping to get to a point where I have a separate setup for my audio listening only, and then my 2 setups for movie/music in the family room and living room, and then maybe a dedicated HT.
  7. Actually got the whole ICON Series from them for $800.00, this included 2 sets of KS-14's,new in box, SC-20 (I know it's different line), 2 KF-28's, 1 set KB-15's in the box.
  8. I just picked up an RC-35 FOR $99.00, but see them on Ebay for $125.00-$150.00, the RC-35's for $140.00-$225.00, I also bought mine for $115.00. None of the ones I purchased had any issues with them, and were black. RB-35's were hard to come by,but when I did see them were anywhere from $175.00-260.00. I saw them after purchasing RB-15's for $110.00. I have the RF-25's and wanted to match my setup with matching speakers and just finished getting everything within the last 15 days. Had I not purchased the RB-15's I would have gladly taken them from you. The RB's only have 1 selling on Ebay but they are asking $475.00 for the set.

    Tube Amp

Maynard, That's what I was trying to find out with the question. So If I am getting what you are saying, if I'm at 12 foot listening and want to listen at about 100db, I need at least 1 watt of power from a tube amp per foot of area. So if I wanted to go with something smaller on a speaker and try to go with a "cheap" amp, what size speaker would be sufficient? I'm assuming a bookshelf, but what would be the "minimum size" speaker to use? My ignorance in this area doesn't help I guess when asking some of the questions I want to. I do know however that tube amps are going to cost more money than the other type. So if I've read correctly, if I'm pushing the 28's I need and amp that is going to cost around $1200-1800, and needs to be at a minimum 12 watts per channel? Or is it 12 watts per speaker? Also, where would I even be able to go in our area to preview the sound on them? Jim
  10. I got mine for $150.00 per speaker from them, only thing was a broken foot which klipsch sent me 8 of for free.
  11. those are in the woods to show proof on whether or not a tree makes a sound when it falls in the woods

    Tube Amp

Maynard, I am in Central New Jersey (Woodbridge area) and would most likely have to start off with 2 channel as I am on a very tight monetary leash (as in maybe only $200-250 max). The room size is 14x22 with a large couch loveseat chaise and I have paneling acoustic ceilings and carpeting. The center spot on my listening area is 12 feet from the speakers and I have them toed in to come slightly wider than my ears with the tweeters. The speakers are approximately 7 feet apart from each other and are about 12-16 inches from the back wall and about 3 feet from the side walls. I listen to everything from Oldies (50's-60's) to Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Trance, Freestyle, Rockabilly, the new version of Big Band (Brain Setzer type), Grunge, and Salsa/Merengue.So mostly everything from the 50's up to the very early 2000's. My music listening is about 50/50 vs movies, so I don't know if it's feasible to do this. I don't have a set 2 channel set-up exclusively, but if I decided to go this route and it doesn't make sense to do it in this room, I have a Denon receiver in my living room which allows for a 7.2 setup plus a dedicated 2 channel set up. So I could do it in that room if needed. That set up is done with RF 25's. I'd personally like to try it in the room with the 28's if possible and realize the 28's aren't anywhere near the Reference series or any of the others for the matter.Had I joined the forum a few months earlier I would have passed on them, but I couldn't pass up the deal for them. I got a full 9.2 setup for less than $1000.00 so it was hard to let it go. I'm also using a Yamaha RX A2020 receiver to power these direct from the receiver, no amps added in. I figure if I do go this route it will take awhile to do a full 7/9 setup, but if I start small I can get an education on the do's and dont's. So my budget is very small $250.00 and I'd like to start with the mains at this point. I know most on here will not agree and say don't skimp wait, but if I'm going to make mistakes,I'd rather do it with lower end and move up when I can. As for how loud I listen, lol, that's another story. Just loud enough so the ringing goes away within 2 days. I actually have been listening at lower levels with an occasional blare upwards when listening to Joe Satriani, don't know the db level, but it's probably above the half mark on my receiver on small occasions. I also uploaded pictures of the room on the gallery wall, it's the 3 to the right of the person holding the large white horn.
  13. I have 2 copies of the Rumors Dvd/Audion, 1 on CD, 1on cassette and 1 on vinyl, that is why I am selling 1 of the DVD/AUDIO.
  14. I'm contemplating running a tube(s) amp for my family room but don't know where to start. The speakers are most likely going to be the KF-28's,or maybe potentially the whole setup. I don't know if it would be worth it or not either. I'm assuming most people use them on 2 channel setups for music and not HT. The speakers I have are O.K. for HT, but lack on the music end,so I figured I'd ask for info on tubes. The speakers are 150 watts input, my receiver is 140 watts per channel, and I don't know how small I can go or how large it would need to be. Is it even worth it, and what brands? Should I try one of these amps from China, or steer clear of them? Are tubes strictly mono or stereo? These are the things I'd like info on. There's 1,000's on Ebay alone, but where to start? I don't have real money to invest into them either,so it would at this time be more to try out the sound quality and move up as time goes by. I'd appreciate any info available. I've heard only 1 or 2 tube amps play music and they seemed nice, but it was a demo in a store. Thanks in advance for any info or steering to or away from any brands.
  15. For me paying the kindness forward is to make good memories with your kids so they remember the good times when they get older and have families of their own.
  16. typical boys , they like cars, swords, dart guns, nerf, and music is rubbing off on them also. I have no idea why. wife had pandora on this AM b-4 they got on the bus, Guns-N-Roses came on Welcome to the Jungle, Joey did not want to go out to the bus till it went off its his favorite song of the day, yesterday was Bohemian Rhapsody. I have started to notice his brother Jacob dancing a bit and following lyrics Its fun to watch them getting older and getting more into music, They grew up with a system and anytime I was home and listening they were right there with dad. Joey as a baby would bounce endlessly on my lap while music played..............A memory I will always cherish is Both of them falling asleep on dads chest while listening to music, You guys are gonna make me emotional I got my kids into my music by playing rock band with them on Playstation. I wound up downloading 500 songs from the Playstation site and we have 2 guitars, drums, 3 microphones, and the keyboards. So we usually play as a family (6 of us) and have their friends over and they interchange so we can play a full 7 people. There's a lead singer and 2 backups, lead guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. They have not only learned all those songs, but they all play instruments now. My youngest plays the drums, my 1 daughter plays the flute, the other plays violin and eukelele, and my son the sax. I played trumpet and several other brass instruments when younger but haven't in awhile.I'd like to get together and play with them when we are all better at them. We even do adult night where we play adults only.
  17. I have 2 girls and 2 boys. The simplest homemade toys are the ones they enjoy most. On a separate note, instead of Paypal only, Walmart has re-loadable debit cards.
  18. Joe my kids are 13(triplets) and 10. They are also into music like that.I have taken them to see the B-52's (whom we met before the concert), Bon Jovi, Social Distortion (we were in the front row and got a guitar pick and drum stick from Mike Ness), Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars, and The Brain Setzer Orchestra. Taking them to see Maroon 5 in March. Music has always been a way to connect with them. I also remember mine falling asleep on my chest doing the same. Santa would like to send a gift card for Toys R Us or any other store they like. Where should he send it?
  19. Joe, How old are your boys? Santa asked what they are into.
  20. I have a set of KG 3.5's for sale for $100.00 for forum members. These were refinished black by the prior owner before I purchased them. They work fine. There is a very small tear in the cover which can't be seen unless up close, and a small nick on another speaker that was covered when refinished. The bottom of one of the speakers name tag is missing, but is on the back of the speaker there, just needs to be re-glued. These also have the plastic and metal feet on them for carpeting or hard flooring. I am in NJ and see there aren't many members in this area, so I can ship if needed, but it will be expensive depending on where you are. I can have these bubble wrapped and dropped off, but you will need to have them packed and shipped from where they are dropped off. I will also consider meeting at a specified place to finish delivery. If you are local to me and don't mind driving, you are more than welcome to stop by and preview them before purchase.

    LR Stereo

Very Nice setup!! I have a serious question though, and excuse the ignorance with it, but wouldn't the tube amps and the other AV unit on the speakers heat up to the point where they would be an issue to the finish of the top of the speakers?
  22. Bill one other thing on the Denon receiver is you can run 3 zones if you'd like, or expand the 7 channels to 9 channels and pick the speakers you want to amp directly from the remote, you also have the remote app for phone or pad. With the subs it has a better setup with Audyssey, and you're getting 125 watts per channel rated. I expanded my unit from 7.2 up to 9.2 and am going to add another 2 subs to become 9.4. Yamaha,Onkyo and most other 7 channel receivers don't allow this unless you get into their flagship receivers, and I'm speaking from my own experience, I've had 4 Onkyos and 3 of them had the HDMI issue with them. The 6,7,8 series are notoriously horrible for this and with the HDMI stuff only being out for the time frame it's been out is not a good indicator for me with their product. I'm sure there are many out there that will say different but I do know that I've never had an issue with Yamaha and as this is my 1st Denon,I can't say until I've had it several years. None of the receivers in my opinion are well made as they were 10-15 years ago and even farther back.No disrespect to anyone else on here that picked a different receiver,I'm just going by my experience.
  23. LOL, have her go out to get something for herself and when she gets back, just make like it was always there and act surprised when she asks about it. Tell her you thought she was the one who bought it for the house as a surprise to you. See how that goes.
  24. No I still have them from purchasing the RF-25's last December.I just finished off my living room with the RF-25's, RC-25, and 2 sets of S-3's in a 9.2 setup. I would like to also do the family room in something like these as I have the ICON KF-28's and the KS-14'S but am not a big fan of them at all. ICON's are not my thing. So I'm looking to do something in maybe in an RF-3(5) or RF-25 scenario and matching centers and surrounds.
