  2. Needed a chep DAC for my old WIN XP laptop: Was consindering an old CD player, but this DAC showed up as old model going out of production Plays well, and what is most important, I get rid of hiss comming from amp connected directly to laptop. Not to mention that sound is a bit better. For 60$ I think it is well wort the money spent.
  3. Not listening to the high levels any more. For a short period of time I helped a man who was in charge of sound equiping/mixing in audio sessions for some bands arround town. On many occasions these were big disco clubs. Sometimes I had to watch for those big speaker boxes not to flip onto audience, because those places were crowded with poeple. That means I was practicly with my ears into the speakres, which probably caused hear damage on one of my ears.
  4. How do they polish that wood on the side pannels? Epoxy?
  5. I see the gearing on these bikes , fat wheels have to be moved somehow
  6. My first "serious" bike: Marin MTB (1999) - still have it, with Michelin road tires. One of the last ones with cromoly buted frame. Kinda heavy now but beautifully flexible on the roads. Do it all bike but slow with MTB original chainrings. Old Puch Alpina, converted for riding arround town: And Trek Fx 7.2 for enjoying longer rides:
  7. Great four thirds camera with a good lens. It should have macro capability (If we are talking about the same camera - Panasonic DMC LX100 - apparently the switch should be on the left side of lens barrel "AF Macro" and it goes to 3 cm).

  10. I just could not pass this oportunity: KT88 tube integrated amplifier, push-pull, class-AB; - 3 line inputs - tubes: 4 x KT88 Genalex Gold Lion; 2 x 12AX7WA General Electric; 2 x 6N1P SSSR - output power 2x100 W at 4 or 8 Ohms (more than enough power that i intend to use any time soon )... I just love the sound This will set me on a low profile with my wife and with my wallet, for some time.
  11. Stock saddles on FX bikes sucks for most of the pople. I changed mine in about 2 weeks . Soft saddle usualy does not mean it is more confortable. Now I ride on a cheap MTB saddle that one bike shop was discarding for peanuts, from new bicycles that came into that local bike shop. Believe me, I tried a few (more than 30 saddles , including leather Brooks and so on...). This is highly individual. You wont be noticing that on short rides, but more than 10 miles ride should tell you everything you need to know about the saddle. Also, stock tires are good, BUT if you plan to ride on asphalt I wholehartedly advise for replacing them with slicks (except and only except if you plan on riding much on a wet roads - than they will be slippery). There are other options for wet. On the contrary to common understanding that racing tires are hard as a rock and unconfortable, if you buy nice (read expensive ) road slicks like Continentals (not necesarily that brand), you will find out very quickly why they cost so much . Do not go skinier than 28 wide (currently I believe that FX goes on 35c width, so 28 are skinier ). The rim does not provide for 25 and it could get hard. It is the technology of the tire, copmpound that it is made of, and much more than that that makes racing slicks so good. I believe that the recommended preasure for my tires is 90 PSI (cca 6-8 bars). It is much more than mountain bike tires, that is true. But the tire is designed to be riden on such presure. I tried riding them on lesser preasure (5 bars, even 3,5 bars), and ride was more unconfortable than on 6 bars, not to mention that you risk to puncture the tire. Majority of punctures on road tires are caused by low presure. 700*28 tire gives you more than enough comfort. I can honestly say that riding them is more comfortable than stock 700*35C tires. Just have to aviod pot holes and you will be fine. Now you only have to ride (a couple of rides not more thatn 10 miles at once) will give you all the information on what is happening. Maybe you will have to adjust saddle position, handlebars etc. to find out what fits best for you. More mileage on the bike will make you less prone to but sores (yes, padded panties help ). This is mine FX 7.2: I find more agresive position more confortable for ME on alonger rides, so a reverted the stem upside down, put some bar ends, and wrap them all in a thick handlebar tape. That way i have more positions for the hands, and that handlebar tape is better than grips to me.
  12. Agree with that Hybrid with easiest slick tires you can buy could be winning combination for you. I do not know your cycle background, but since you drove old 10-speed, you are probably aware of the importance of bicycle tire weight and their rolling resistance. So, easy and confortable bike frame plus low-weight racing tires equals enjoyable ride (do not quote me on that bike forums, you might end up banned ).
  13. To share my experience/advice: I ride Trek FX. It is ok for both worlds - leisure riding and can take more avid runs with ease. It was just to slow for asphalt roads so I replaced stock tires with Continental Gatorskins (700*28) - now it runs like a dream. You wont be breaking any speed records with FX, but it is comfortable, not too heavy, although aluminum - it has enough flex in the frame to take some longer rides and not to break your spine. It is cheap, good quality easy to maintain. I also put SPD pedals for longer runs. Try to see if frame geometry fit your body prorportions (of course you know that ). Happy riding
  14. Taken with Nikkor 135mm f2,8 Q.C. lens on transparency film:
  15. I heard a few Sony ES amplifiers and they sounded great to me . Just want to mention that I run my 4 ohm speakers with Onkyo TX-8050 with acceptable results. You can have it new, but it would not be quite in a league with Nakamichi and some other stated above.
  16. I do not want to hipe this thread with old cameras, after all this is about photos and not about equpiment these photos were made with. But for my photography backgorund sake, I want to mantion some of the old junk I own. I am mostly a Nikon guy probably just for one reason - intechangability of lenses. At first I could not afford new digital stuff that would satisfy my needs, so I purchased old Nikon FG (I own 2 of them now ), than F90s and F80 (needed autofocus for hunting pets and things that move fast), and finally FE body to be able to use non-AI lenses. And for medium format I have Yashica Mat. Also looking for a good deal on Hasselblad 500 series, and that will probably end my hunger for film bodies, asside of large format photography which pulls for expensive development facilities and so on... I just love tha feeling of precise mechanics on these old manual focus lenses, and the weight of the heavy metal telephoto. It just ballanses wonderfuly in hands. There is nothing like a soft feeleing of focusing the internally focused Nikkor:
  17. One photo taken with my old trusty Yashica Mat, a medium format TLR camera from 1969. One of last batch Fuji Reala 100 negative film that I could find:
  18. Not that this is a great photo, but I just love old cars This one was resurected from dead with great care for details.
  19. Mariachi are popular ... Here are some great guys from Europe that won many mariachi competitions all over the world... Los Caballeros.
  20. Thanks to all for a clear explanation. I have been thinking about Kimber cable 8TC also. And about 4VS for my current RF42IIs. Had idea that it might colour the sound more on a warm side. Now I will probably go for some KnuKonzeptz cables as well. Even with shipment across the ocean they should cost less than Kimber.
  21. How are those Qbs sounding? From what I have heard they sound pretty good for the price. I think when you hear a pair of Heresy speakers would will have a great point of reference in what a small size horn driven speaker can do. Heresey should be about 10 times more efficient then your Qbs, it will be interested as to what you think the comparison between the two is the the bass end. The real key is the sensitivity of the two speakers. The Qbs are about 89 as I recall, and the Heresy's are going to be about 98 or 99db sensitive. Which, as you know, are going to produce a much greater amount of sound at same power level. All things being equal, at 1 watt, the Heresys will sound 10x louder than the Qbs. I am not sure how the 4 ohm impedance of the Qbs with the 8 ohm impedance of the Heresy is going to effect that. Are you able to play the Qbs up to a volume of your liking? You should have plenty of power to get them where you want to be. I have heard that many used Qbs have hole or tears in the EMIT tweeter material. You may want to take a close look at that to see if there are any problems. Travis The Qbs are sounding quite differently than my RF42 IIs (this is the only valid comparison that I can make at this moment). They share the detailed sound, especially in high section. RFs are quite sharp in my room but still harmonious, while Qbs are much mellower, “old-school”. They remind me of British sound speakers, just more clear on highs. It also might have something to do with the age of the speakers. Tweeter in RFs is no slouch, but the one in QB is sweeter and provides more detail in higher tones. The biggest difference between the two speakers to my ears is bass. Qbs have real bass which is almost too powerful in my smallish room. There are a lot more details in it comparing to RFs. I would say that the weakest point in Qb is mid driver, but capacitor for midrange driver at this age probably should be replaced, which will brighten up the mid-section and provide more details in those frequencies. Horizontal dispersion of the sound waves are of much more difference than other less audible issues in my room. I had quite narrow sweet spot with RFs, while QB fills the room in much wider range. I have no problem driving Qbs with Onkyo 8050. While I needed to turn my volume knob at 15 on the scale with RF42s, I need only a bit more - let’s say 18-20 to achieve the same amount of sound with Qbs. In 1200 sq feet room where I auditioned Qbs at the time of purchase, I needed to turn them up to 45-55, so I think the driving power will not be a problem at all . I know that Heresies should be much better in terms of efficiency, but I have no need to push either of them that high. EMITs are in great shape as all drivers are on my pair of Qbs. Otherwise I would not even look at them in the first place. I went tu the seller, checked the speakers, let them run for an hour and a half. Concluded the deal only whan satisfied . Only visible deficiencies are wear markings on top back angles of the cabinets.
  22. Thanks everybody. I love being here.
  23. Do your policeman have radars? I was last stoped by the police maybe 10 years ago. But we do get speeding tickets by the mail often. Police don`t bother any more with personal contacts. They just send the photo with a ticket at home adress.
