  1. OP-what are the # of channels you want and WPC? I agree with others here. Save your money to get a really good one. I have two Rotel amps and think they are outstanding! 2. I agree with Flason. KLF-C7 is a good match for the 5.5's. Before I got my KLF-30's,the 5.5's were my mains. I agree entirely with everyone on this! My friend is watching Blade 2 at the moment. I am not paying attention to it. I want to wait and watch it at home with the lights out and sound cranked! He does have a decent little system. HK AVR-120, Klipsch KG 3.5s,KSB-1s and a small JBL sub. But a movies like Blade deserve more! I believe more people are into HT than we imagine. But most have the cheap little "HT-in-a-box" setup that does not give them the true FEELING of HT! We are so spoiled!!! ------------------ Jerry CP RULZ ------------ Mains: KLF 30 Rears: KG 5.5 Center: KLF-C7 Subs: (2) Antique wooden coffins with (3) 12" Advents in each Receiver: HK AVR-80 DD Processor: HK ADP-303 DTS Processor: Rotel RDA 985 AudioControl Phase Coupled Activator Series Three TV: Toshiba 42H81 42" Theaterwide DVD: Toshiba 4109X Laserdisc: Yamaha CDV-W901 5 CH Amp(for Speakers): Rotel RMB-1095 5 CH Amp(for subs): Rotel RB-985 Single Cass Deck: HK TD-420 Dual Cass Deck: HK DC-520
  4. I personally recommend a widescreen HD-Ready set. I agree with cardinal on this. You get the best of both worlds. When HDTV becomes readily available, all you need is a setup box. I have the 42" TheaterWide Toshiba and love it! For tv broadcasting,I set it to FULL mode and it looks fine. Doesn't look distorted at all. The set has 5 pic-size modes: Normal, (3) Widescreen, and Full. I've had a lot of experience with Toshiba sets and would not switch for anything. With certain dvds, the picture is incredible! It's hard to believe it is a projection set. Also, the pricing is really good. Why pay big $ now and then when HDTV is common place, shell out more for another set? I know HDTV won't be common for awhile yet,but with the life span of the sets nowadays, that is nothing to worry about. And finally, the looks of a widescreen set. IMHO, I think they are gorgeous to look at. They are so exoctic looking. Makes you feel special to have something like it in your home! ------------------ Jerry CP RULZ ------------ Mains: KLF 30 Rears: KG 5.5 Center: KLF-C7 Subs: (2) Antique wooden coffins with (3) 12" Advents in each Receiver: HK AVR-80 DD Processor: HK ADP-303 DTS Processor: Rotel RDA 985 AudioControl Phase Coupled Activator Series Three TV: Toshiba 42H81 42" Theaterwide DVD: Toshiba 4109X Laserdisc: Yamaha CDV-W901 5 CH Amp(for speakers): Rotel RMB-1095 5 CH Amp(for subs): Rotel RB-985 Single Cass Deck: HK TD-420 Dual Cass Deck: HK DC-520 This message has been edited by MagnumMan on 09-06-2002 at 12:35 AM
  5. jwadd21-for the amount of money you are looking to spend,go with Toshiba. IMHO, they give you the best bang-for-the-buck. You can get a progressive scan for $300 now. The best thing I like about Toshiba is that they are very user friendly. Other brands tend to be a pain-in-the-neck to set-up. ------------------ Jerry CP RULZ ------------ Mains: KLF 30 Rears: KG 5.5 Center: KLF-C7 Subs: (2) Antique wooden coffins with (3) 12" Advents in each Receiver: HK AVR-80 DD Processor: HK ADP-303 DTS Processor: Rotel RDA 985 AudioControl Phase Coupled Activator Series Three TV: Toshiba 42H81 42" Theaterwide DVD: Toshiba 4109X Laserdisc: Yamaha CDV-W901 5 CH Amp(for subs): Rotel RB-985 Single Cass Deck: HK TD-420 Dual Cass Deck: HK DC-520

  8. You can narrow down the problem by switching the center speaker with one of the mains to see if there is a difference. If you get the same effect,it could be a setting or wiring. If it sounds right after switching, then the tweeter is bad. I had a friend that had same problem with another brand. Dialog was very faint, and the other effects and bass were alright. Dicovered the tweeter was shot. ------------------ Jerry CP RULZ ------------ Mains: KLF 30 Rears: KG 5.5 Center: KLF-C7 Subs: (2) Antique wooden coffins with (3) 12" Advents in each Receiver: HK AVR-80 DD Processor: HK ADP-303 DTS Processor: Rotel RDA 985 AudioControl Phase Coupled Activator Series Three TV: Toshiba 42H81 42" Theaterwide DVD: Toshiba 4109X Laserdisc: Yamaha CDV-W901 5 CH Amp(for subs): Rotel RB-985 Single Cass Deck: HK TD-420 Dual Cass Deck: HK DC-520

  10. I agree with others here. Do research. There are so many variables that can effect performance. My custom boxes are sealed (no ports),with the drivers facing down into the floor. IMO I feel the bass more with them facing down. Everyones ears are different. So you have to discover what you like. 12. Moit- If the movie is widescreen, and the tv is standard 4:3, you will have the bars. Try this-go into the DVD setup and set the screen shape to 16:9,even though you do not have one. What this will do is, if the DVD is Anamorphic Widescreen, the picture will be stretched to fill most of tv screen. Keep in mind it won't on all dvd's,just anamorphic, or discs that read "enhanced for widescreen tvs" Also look at the aspect ratio on DVD itself. If anamorphic and has ratio of 1.85:1, it will fill the screen entirely. If anamorphic and has ratio of 2.35:1 it will stretch the picture but still leave smaller bars on screen. If they are not anamorphic, there is no way to get rid of the masking bars. Thanks for all the input and advice! I will still plan on getting Heritage in the future. HornEd-I was just wondering what the dimensions are on your custom KLF-30 Center? 17. So,I can bi-wire without the passive network? Ok, here are my hookups: I have new banana plugs from KnuKonceptz that doesn't permit plugging another pair in. So,to hook up 2nd set, should I get spade connecters for it? If one set is hooked up via spades under the screw cap on binding post, and other set hooked in via banana plugs, does it make a difference which is going to Hi-Input & Low-Input on back of speaker. 18. tblasing-I have always had a different perception of bi-wiring also. I assumed that you needed a outboard xover. Which you refer to as bi-amping. I am still a little confused to how bi-wiring works? you mentioned the "MIT Terminator 2 Bi-Wire cables from Audio Advisor (plug)". How exactly do they work. What does the passive network box do? Currently I have 8 AWG speaker wire running from the amp to my KLF-30's. Can I run 2 strands of wire to each speaker or do I need the passive network box? It is something I will definitely try. 19. Thanks again everyone and HornEd! It's a wait & see situation. I can spare about $1200-$1500 for a pair. Which pretty much gurantees a set of 30's. But the K-Horns will be a bit more. I am going on vacation overseas next month so have to watch the spending at the moment. I did get my Rotel RMB 1095 ordered other day. Question I am still asking is: I know that Klipsch can take more than what they are rated, but will it be ok to use the 200 WPC amp with the Heritage line? Plan on trying biwire approach. Never new much about it. I always assumed you needed a crossover to hook up that way. I read in another thread that it's not that. I just got new terminal plugs and 8 AWG wire for speakers. My question is now will the 200 WPC amp be too much for the K-Horns. According to the specs, they are rated at 100 watts maximum continuous and 400 peak. Where as the KLF-30's are 200 watts maximum continuous. I am ready to buy the amp but want to make sure. 24. IMHO,if you have great sounding speakers and equipment, you don't need an EQ. My first home theater system was JBL. Local dealer let me borrow an Audio Control HT EQ. It helped a great deal. 25. rookie, I had my pair of 3.5's as my mains for 5 yrs. I didn't replace them due to performance. I loved them! I listen to music as much as movies and they did great! I just wanted to bump up a little,so got 5.5's and moved 3.5's to surrounds. I finally heard some Reference and think they are awesome. I agree with Keith. If you are looking for a small budget, finish matching the system, and when you can afford it,replace with something new. If you can find more KG's,I would go that route.
