  1. Normally when these questions are asked, people will vote for what they own.   In this case, i have no shame in saying i am a bias Chorus II owner.  I do however understand the size issue. Bigger is always better, but if you have a small apartment or small room, the Quartets will be great.  If you can talk the Chorus II owner down closer to the upgraded Quartet cost, its a no brainer even if you live in a tin shack.  If the significant other thinks they are too big, you slam your nuts on the dresser with authority and she will understand.

I ended up selling 2 pairs of La Scala's and kept the Chorus II, not just because of size and easier ability to keep throughout a lifetime,  but because i felt i needed to invest way too much in 2 pairs of new networks to replace the degraded and hated AL's and i also needed to invest in bigger and badder set of dual subs to match for movies and eventually find a single La Scala for center and upgrade those crossovers to match as well.   So i totally understand the size issue among other issues.  Do i regret it? Yes. I wish i would have kept 1 pair. But, i love my Chorus II as far as overall balance for 2ch.  I prefer them over the Cornwalls ive heard or KLF-30s or RF-7 II's. Short of KHorns, La Scalas or going PRO, there's not much better than the Chorus II even in stock form.  So like Dean mentioned, you buy the Chorus II now and you save up for a pair of crossovers from him, and now @jjptkd is figuring out a way to use the John Allen A-55G driver with adapter on the Chorus II's.

Yes, it was used in Pro Klipsch applications like the KP-301 II and a few others.

Yes, there is room but you will need to drill new holes in the adaptor. Someone here has already done it, I was trying to find the thread detailing the info but couldn't find it.

I think i remember that thread. Someone who put it in Forte II's but i think he had different horns also.  Was it @SWL?

  3. So they made the stock CHII mid horn with the right thread for the A55-G?  Crites sent me a part used for adapter but he doesn't know if it fits in the cabinet with the A55G installed...there looks to be a good 4 inches of space with the stock horn and driver so i dont see why not: Selenium ADF 25-25 bolt on adapter.  Wonder if you have to make new holes in this as well?

  4. It's odd really...it's  a love or hate topic with most on the forums and our resident crossover guys in Crites and Dean both preferring the stock as well.  I always wondered how many guys used the titanium combo with the sonicaps and not a PIO cap in the mids or something with a warmer signature sound + tube amps or warmer sounding SS.

I read through this thread, and most seemed to love it especially the SET12 guy who apparently has amazing sounding Forte II's. He didn't even feel it necessary to install the crites  band pass, neither does @moray james IIRC.

I personally think about at least giving it a try and finding out for myself and if i don't like it, i can always keep them around if i get a pair of HII or KLF-20/30 speakers.   But, most of all, i'd prefer to find a way to use the A55G mid drivers with adapters in the Chorus II's.  Not sure if it fits.  @Born2RockU ordered a single A55G mid driver for his La Scala center, so maybe if i can order the adapter, Craig can let me try and see if it fits into the Chorus II cabinets and demo it at his house?

oops, i misread your post, thought you meant the 1060 had noise.

not sure how the volume knob is controlled on a newer digital receiver... but if its still just a basic potentiometer you would spray inside the working part of it. i'll let others chme in on a modern digital avr though.

I just manually checked the volume knob maybe the first time ever(ive always used the remote) and the knob skips or barely adjusts the volume so maybe it does need deoxit, but could that knob have an effect on the sound from the separate internal amps though?

  6. My Marantz SR7007 has a very faint, low volume center and right surround channel and my main right channel has a lot of noise so it seems it needs major repair. In the mean time, i'd like a stereo receiver.

I missed out on a Luxman R-117. The listing was 3 hours north of me, but it was also up on ebay for a good $100 more with shipping and the seller never responded to my emails. eBay listing now gone so assuming its sold.

Anyway, i'm now down to considering a Marantz 1060 or a Luxman R-115 to use with my Chorus II's.  Both in or around $250 budget.  Any other suggestions are welcome.

*The one attractive thing about the Marantz 1060 for me is i've seen people mention it makes a great headphone amp in case i want to do that in the future.

*Could i use either of these stereos as a separate amp WITH my Marantz SR7007 pre outs? That way i can keep using HDMI connection from my PC to the MarantzAVR DAC since all my music is digital.

Yes sir, it was me that got them.  My SX-1250 is Walnut as well as my PL-570 so that Walnut was a major bonus.  I'm going to see how they sound first with my ss receiver but now I'm thinking about tube amps. The saga never ends!

Man.  Congrats. You got yourself some of my dream speakers. They look to be in excellent quality and a finish option I've personally never seen.  Take lots of photos so i can dream about them and then look at my beat up  black Chorus II with contempt.

The whole thing was strange.  Most scammers will try to sell you $1000 speakers for $200 knowing someone will take them fast before someone else does.

If I were to continue with this Seller I would ask for a picture of both labels with the date stamp showing today's date.

Yes and i still don't understand finding the photos from a different advert from a different time. Doesn't that mean they were sold and maybe made their way to California now?  It's worth at least asking more questions and photo proof and asking if he will do paypal transaction.

There is a pair in black finish near me for $750 on CL, but like you said, that finish is so boring to me that I keep holding out for a nicer veneer.

I already have a pair of black CHII. Thought has crossed my mind to veneer them walnut on my own. I just don't want cheap looking veneer.  If doing it myself, i'd prefer a very high quality figured walnut veneer like you see on the Forte III's.  Then if a Walnut Oil Chorus II ever pops up, i'd get them as surrounds with plans to use Walnut Oil Heresy II as center channel(both of which would be sanded and finished to look similar to the mains I'm thinking of veneering.  The original WO CHII looks too red for me).

Just a word of caution in regards to shipping (have seen it a few times here on the forum) The weight of the drivers / magnets can cause wrinkling of the cones if they get bounced around. You might consider removing them and boxing separately.

I can't remember who had problems but I think @Youthman may have been one of them.

    Good luck!

Is that why so many RF-7 and RC-7's and others with similar drivers regularly have wrinkles and dents in them?  Is this a problem with other speakers as well as far transport?

I believe, that and the fact the woofers and mid drivers are no longer easily replaceable and I guess lack of availability since I've only ever seen the one pair local have pretty much kept me away from even entertaining the idea of the CF-4 in my home.

As wvu80 stated, there are compression driver replacements for the CF-4 if you can't find the stock cd.

As far as the woofers go, that's the issue.  If you have ver. 1 and you wait forever for replacement woofers to pop up, there's a chance it could be the cheaper, lighter woofers from version 3.

I wonder if the Ciare 12" woofers are suitable replacements as they are for the KLF-30's.  I don't know anything about the crossover points and all that mess to see if they would work with CF-4's so maybe someone can take a quick look?

    specs for the Ciare drivers

    Specs for CF-4
    http://207.67.68.51/forums/storage/4/1041393/Epic.pdf

    crossover frequency for CF-4 = 1500hz

so if Ciare woofers have a frequency response of 25hz-2.5khz  does that mean it works fine b/c the cf-4 network will cut the 2 drivers off at 1500hz and let the compression driver take over?  I really don't know how this stuff works lol..probably time to learn if i'm spending so much time thinking about speakers and posting on a speaker forum.

There seem to be a lot of Klipsch speakers similar in overall look to the KLF-30.  I think they must all have a 15 inch woofer.  Anyone know them all which are worth the time?

    KLF-30 have dual 12's like the CF-4

    KLF-10's and KLF-20's use dual 10's

Forte series and Heresy uses 12s

    Chorus and Cornwall use 15''

I think Reference series tops out at 10s in their cabinets.  Could be wrong.

  13. Yes. The diaphragms will fit.  The issue is that the titanium increases output to beyond what the stock diaphragm outputs and peaks at the same time as the tweeter so both mids and tweeters will be peaked at i think 6-7k according to Bob Crites.   He does sell a band pass for people who install the Ti mids that lets the Ti mid drop off before the tweeter.  Some thought it was better.  Some thought it was unnecessary.  Most seem to think the TI mids are too harsh/bright/shrill but those who love it, swear by it.   I think at the price, i myself will be giving it a shot for my Chorus II's soon enough.
