I’ve had a couple pairs of Chorus 2s, and Cornwalls, and Forte 2s, and Heresys, and… over the years, and still own a pair of KP-301s(Professional Series Chorus 1). Listening to them “as we speak”.
I really think the Tractrix midhorn presents a less forward (more studio) sound than the exponential horns in a the “1” series Forte and Chorus and Cornwalls. Others on here have told me this is not true, but still…
I tried titanium midrange diaphragms(with the requisite bandpass filters) in the Chorus 2s, but after about 70db they lose their sparkle and push back. Real sweet up to that point, give or take a few dbs.
What has ALWAYS made an immediate, and not optional from where I sit, improvement was titanium tweeter diaphragms, or even better, an un-named machined aluminum horn lens with an un-named DE-120 driver.
Now, if I was a crafty fellow, and didn’t mind hacking an OEM pair of Chorus 2 crossovers, or possibly build a board from scratch, I would swap out the autoformer with one that has 1db increment taps, put a swamping resistor across 0 and 5 and see what a little goosing would do to the neutrality of the mids.
As it stands I would NEVER have sold my Chorus 2s had I not found a pair of KP-301s.
There is no replacement for displacement, and I don’t want to think of a world without K-48 woofers.

…on a quiet night,
La Scalas around 60db are wonderfully engaging.
After the day had today KP-301s cranked to 11 sounded about right.

If you think you can sell them down the road for what you paid, it’s a no-brainer.
It has been referred to on the forum as “rent free”.
My opinion is you owe it to yourself to find out what La Scalas sound like in your own home, and the price is right.

I found the eBay ad, the pictures of the grilles seem to show the correct cutouts for the knockoff mids?
The "mids" have some indiscernible decal on them, looks like a "T" with letters on either side.
Did Speakerlab, or some other company make a Cornwall clone too?

This is what I did to a beater pair of Cornwall 1s with the B-3 crossover.
I put the Chorus 2 midhorn in place of the K-601.
I also put K-79s where the K-77s were.
later I put in an un-named woofer and the same un-named titanium diaphragms in the K-79s
I also flush mounted the drivers and braced the cabinets.
the result was inspiring
The motorboards on the ones for sale have enough room for a LOT of options if the wood is good.

They might be pre '79?(only two slotted ports)Cornwalls with a B crossover, smoked woofers (surrounds are shot) and probably Alnico tweeters(probably smoked too).
The mids look to be some inadequate junk.
The cabinets could be repurposed for a "CornScala" build.
If both the tweeters still work and there are Klipsch crossovers inside, they may be worth a couple hundred bucks to the right craftsman looking for a project.
I can't tell what they did to the motorboard to fit those aftermarket squawkers in there though.

For the love of all that is sacred, please don't do this.I think that would be a recipe for a "cascading series of failures".
I have wondered about putting an 8 ohm resistor in place of the tweeter, but even that would create issues.
In this particular, and pretty much all other, un-EQ'd crossovers the midrange would overpower the treble.
If you go to the websites of any driver manufacturers you can find their FR charts. It is easily 7db difference in the mids and highs.

You need a crossover that will EQ the high frequency response according to the specific driver and horn combination, for best possible results.
The generic crossovers may or may not be up to task.
Another issue is the La Scala bass bin does not effectively go any higher than 500hz, and that is pushing it.

ALK has retired, so you are out of luck with him. It was a hell of a deal while it lasted.
As for the Kappa 15C suggestion, I have done it and it is all that and a bag of chips.
I didn't want to pile too much on your plate, or lead you astray from keeping things all original.
There is one caveat about the Kappa 15Cs, last two pairs I received anyway. They come with a squishy foam gasket, like pool noodle foam, not sure why they do that. Most other woofers have hard paper gaskets.
In order for the woofer to transfer all of its energy to the doghouse you either have to torque the screws down to fully compress the foam, or replace the foam gasket with paper.
Oh, and I found there IS a break in period on these woofers.
...there are (subjectively) better tweeter options too, who said that?

@bsacco, the JEM option would likely hold your resale value and keep the sound where you are used to as well.
Your tweeters will come alive with just about any cap you use, but the squawkers may or may not be to your liking. I like the "brighter" caps at the levels I listen at, rarely touching 90db from the listening position.
Just a caveat when soldering, leave the capacitor leads as long as possible so you don't fry them. Touch and go, I use alligator clips as a heatsink as well.

Saw your other post about the blown K-33.
The suggestion to order two new ones from Klipsch is solid advice. Matching the one you have to a used one would be tricky. Also, you would only do marginally better on eBay pricing and if what Randy said about shipping and tax is true that's a no-brainer.

@csinsc, those "soldered lug" K-55s are sought after, and the K-500 horns aren't made anymore, I get it about shipping, but you would get a better price.
Do you know someone who sells on eBay? They might facilitate a much bigger market/payday.
If everything looks nice 800 bucks for everything doesn't seem lofty, to me. Maybe more, timing is everything.

impressed you got the backs off so neatly, not so sure I would have that luck
auditioned a pair of KP-250 (version 1) years ago when I already had Heresy 2s, seller was using a diminutive looking Roksan amp in at least a 20 x 20 living room, speakers about 4 feet out directly on the floor just to demo them
the imaging was nothing short of impressive standing at the tip of about a 10 x 10 x 10 triangle and the bass made me take another look at the Roksan, lol
interesting that your version 2s were all tractrix decades before the Hersey 4 went that route

Klipsch used the Heresy 2 motor board for these and shoehorned it into what appears to be an ever so slightly smaller cabinet.

Those boards have T2A autoformers and 2304 (4mH) inductors. Very useful parts, on nice boards with barrier strips. Instant score there.
The K-22 woofers are worth more than 40 bucks, each.I was under the impression the Klipsch stage monitors using what looks to be the same midhorn went to 12khz. If you can reach your phone inside you don't need to risk cracking the horn. Good thinking on your part, I've lost count of the carnage of my haste.
Those speakers won't "sparkle" without tweeters but they have potential.
The cabinets almost look to be Heresy cabinets without the cutout in the motorboard for the tweeters? Maybe compare the dimensions to the Heresys?
