  1. Bob, guessing that would be the same for chorus 1 and 11s? Thanks!
  2. I would stick with the 77, I bet bob crites could install it for you . K 76 is similar to k79 but with a smaller magnet, Imo the k 76 can sound a little shrill at times.
  3. Could someone post a few side and top shots of k 402, full body with camera centered on middle of horn?
  4. Have one in my bedroom system, not bad but not very musical to my ears. I am using it with klipsch sp 1,s and matching book shelfs speakers in a 5.1 system.
  5. Ti first and crossovers later, you could always get bobs crossover rebuild kit and do it yourself, if you can solder. Did mine on my chorus speakers not that hard and save some cash.
  6. If I read you post correct you have the the quartets on top of your Subs? If so I would take them down and set quartets on the floor and experiment with different speaker angles depth from wall. You might be able to get a better sound from them and they should be more at ear level. I would try and get the mains quartets set up first then place the sub/subs for best sound.
  7. I would try a fine steel wool on them to cut any crut off then use a tack cloth to get up any steel wool particles. Pick a stain that you like and stain over old stain. I would be careful using any sand paper on the veneer unless you sand down to mdf which personal I would not do. Any scratches from sanding on the veneer will show, does not matter if you paint or stain. If you stain a dark color it will be hard to get out, usually will have to sand and steel wool to get out. Home depot sells oak strips you could buy to test different stains. Buy one small can of stain similar to the quatets and 1kind of new color stain you like. Or like above paint black, the paint can be stripped later if you like but will leave the oak grain slightly highlighted. (Not a bad thing imo). If you paint speakers they can be returned to golden stain finish if wanted. Personal I would paint, would be easier to return a more normal oak stain if you wish. Agree on Ti upgrade.
  8. There is but never used it, here is my email lkuyers@outlook.com.
  9. Common problem with this unit known for power supply problem. (Do a search)I have one that was bad almost from day one, now have an amp I got off ebay to power it. At first I had a 2 channel from goodwill ran off avr reciever sub out, wired it straight to sw sub. See your near me I live in doraville, if you decide to sell it let me know. Good luck!
  10. For now until I get this figured out the fold felt has to stay, it's the only way I can stand to listen to most of my cd collection. Maybe tomorrow I can get problem narrowed down.
  11. Wanted to wait and finish the center channel but I need to this figure out so I don't have problems down the line, I will post what I fine. Thanks for the help so far!
  12. No not metallic in nature or chalkboard scratch kind of like an echo of what is playing only a narrow band of freg.? The sound is not in vocals but imaged where the vocals are not really coming directly from the horn. Tomorrow guess I will have to take everything down and set it up properly, been meaning to but been busy building a center channel for HT. I have a set of kp 250s and sp1s I can try also a different reciever and turn table.
  13. Listen to anything from Eric Clayton, bruce Hornsby no problem, Eagles, tears for fears problem until I stuff felt in the horn. I bought these speakers along time ago when I was going to school in Tampa. Sound advice the local stereo store had a trade in program where you could upgrade within a year's time, I upgraded to chorus 1s while going to school and had the problem then. Not long after getting the speakers I moved to Atlanta and did not touch them until recently. I have tried a different cd player still had the same problem. I have a turn table but it will be a few days before I can hook it up. I get same, similar sound from my Academy speaker some times but I think it's just the smaller magnet on the tweeter. Xo have not been rebuilt on the academy.
  14. Just rebuild the xovers with Bobs xo kit about 3 4 weeks ago, actually thought about trying a different cap. from a different man. in the mid range. Same value just better /different grade cap.
  15. Not distortion exactly more like added, extra freg. (Resonance ?) Hoped the new caps would solve the problem, cleared things up some but not completely. The sound is centered close to vocals when it appears. Don't think it is a mechanical problem with new diaphragms in both mids and tweets.
  16. Both chorus 1 and 2s have Ti tweeter upgrade, chorus 1 xo,s have been rebuild by me with one of bobs crites rebuild kit. The 2s where rebuild by former owner with Dayton audio caps. The new diaphragms in the 1s are not Ti but similar to stock from Bob crites, bob does not sell the Ti upgrade for mids only tweeters. Saw where felt and aquarian filter form could help with resonants in the horn, it did a little. When I rebuild the chorus 1 xovers I cleaned out the magnets on both tweeter and mids also used rope caulk on the horn bodies. Putting the felt directly in the horn body helped with noise more than anything else I have tried. Not an expert but I feel it is some sort of resonants problem in the mid horn? I have tried everything I can think except to brace the mid. What I would need to do a freq. check? Thoughts?
  17. Chorus 1 and 2s both sounded scratchy on some cds. Both have Ti upgrade tweeters crossovers rebuided, 1s have new bob crites mid diaphragms. Have felt and form in both tweets and mids, helped some. Tonight I took a felt pad ( about a foot sq.)folded it and stuffed it in each mid, scratchy noise gone. Listened close to speakers and the mids sounded louder, more forward than the tweets that's why I stuck the felt pad in to tone down the mid? I have no problem leaving the felt in but is there a better way to accomplish this, xq or L pad? Hopefully some of you experts can give me a better idea of what is going on and how to correctly tune mid or mid and tweet. Thanks!
  18. Decide which you like better for mains, get a center channel and use the other speakers in rear for a 5.1 setup.
  19. Just picked it up today, got it for a hundred even. Did not have it demonstrated but said he tested it and qaunteed it to work. Should be fun to play with, I will try to post the specs.
  20. Can pick one up for 115 buck. Are these amps any good, worth the the 115 ? Thanks.
  21. OK side by side with correct xovers in each.
  22. The 2s are done the 1 s are not, going to do the 1s tonight and put in the tt. Guess it would interesting to hear the difference no matter which way I go. I will get this done tonight and let you know how they sound. Just had another thought, I could put an 1 xover from the 2 into the 1. Might give me a better idea of which sounds better. I know there are slight difference in xovers so bad or good idea?
  23. Not saying the Daytons are not any good but I have bob kits to both the chorus 1 and 2s. Also building a chorus center with one of bobs kit. (Still have to order inductors and such.)Though about leaving the Daytons in but since I have to tear down xover to check valves might as well replace them. Not sure what to do with the Dayton caps, would like to sell but can not be sure of condition.
  24. I compared my crossover to a pic on the net and looks like the inductors have not been replaced. (Good news actually) I have to take the crossover part of the way down to check cap values so I am just going to replace with bobs kit. Thanks for the help, now I have figure out what to do with the DAYTON caps.
