  1. I must have evolved pretty quickly AudioSource SW-Four 12" Dual Tempest 15" Sonotube Won't need anything else for quite awhile..... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  2. Glad to hear it's up & running, well almost. Hopefully the amp will do the trick. Sounds like the crossover is not working properly. Be sure to let us know how it turns out... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  3. Just keep working on it a little at a time it that's all you can do. It will be WELL worth the effort... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  4. I've hit +12 more than once with my set-up. REALLY gets everyone's attention ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  5. Use a can of spray glue like 3M. Can be found at hardware or fabric stores... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  6. Mine is tuned to 17Hz and yes I LOVE it for music. I've heard of people plugging the port for music, so that's something you could consider...Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  7. I had JBL's across the front, KLH in the back center, and some off brand towers for surrounds and it all sounded pretty good. The only way to TRULY avoid sound differences would be to have 5-7 identical speakers, BUT you'll still notice a difference in sound when stuff pans around the room as usually it's getting louder/quieter on the screen. Also remember probably 75% of all the sound comes from the CC. As long as ALL of your speakers are level matched with an SPL meter you should be happy. ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  8. I say buy a BUNCH of Legend 30's!!! Well this IS a Klipsch site. In all seriousness, I used a small pair of KLH monitors in the rear, I'm talking like $25 from BB, and they did a good job back there with my old JBL system. Of course it's nothing compared to what I have now. Do you have any friends/family that might have a small pair of speakers you could borrow to try out. Or purchase at BB or CC with the intention of returning if you don't like them. Good luck...Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  9. Got it fixed a few weeks ago. Looks like a power surge of some kind took out part of the power supply. I also bought a better surge protector!! ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  10. Glue & silicone as Dustin suggested, but I used screws instead of nails as they bite better in the MDF. If you do use nails you might want to pre-drill some small holes as MDF splits VERY easily. ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  11. What type of sub, what driver, HT or 2 channel music? I built a dual Tempest sonosub that's ported & tuned to 17Hz. I couldn't be more impressed or happier with the Adire drivers, especially @ $140 each. Go over to the HomeTheaterForum and do a search on passive radiators. Plenty of guys have used them, so lots of learning to do over there. Good luck...Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  12. Neighbor told me it was very scary, but I thought it was a real yawner. Not much action or excitement. Watching Resident Evil right now. VERY good soundtrack and LOTS of bass.... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  13. Do you plan on stuffing the enclosure? I put around 8#'s of blanket batting into mine per Dan W.(owner of Adire). I'm assuming downfiring sub so be sure that the legs are at least 4 inches long. I also found it easier to apply the bead of caulk to the inside of the tube BEFORE installing the endcap. I used screws instead of nails. I didn't bother with the t-nuts, instead just pre-drill the driver mounting holes and HAND tighten. Use rope caulk (almost like clay) to seal the sub before screwing into place. What amp will you be using? My 3802 got taken out by a power surge so I was without a HT for about 4 weeks. Just got it back & hooked up on Saturday. Watched a few movies and listened to plenty of mp3's. Almost forgot just how good the sub & Legends sound together........ of course the neighbor 2 houses away stopped by to complain about the "thunder storm" coming from my house. I need to buy her a set of ear plugs ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  14. Well I got the rest of the endcaps cut out for my sonotube today and painted the top endcap gloss black. That mdf sure soaks up the paint, I put 3 coats of primer and almost a whole can of spray paint on the top endcap, it looks real good.Mike what did you cut your sonotube with? I am going to have to cut about 2 foot off of mine, does a jig saw work? And wear can I get some covering for the outside of the tube?Do you think I will have to paint the sonotube black before I put the covering on it or will I just be wasting paint? I cut the sonotube with a circular saw. Snapped a chalk line around it and cut slowly. I'm sure a jigsaw would also work. As for covering many guys go with "ribbed" fabric as I believe it's already sewn into a tube. Should be available at JoAnn fabrics, etc... I went with black naugehyde. If using a regular black fabric I would brush on a base of black paint first. Be sure to let use know how it sounds when finished....Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  15. Contact the Klipsch Parts Dept to see how much a replacement would cost... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  16. I've got 8 Legends in my HT with a C-7 as the back center and I couldn't imagine not having it back there. Obviously it makes a bigger impact in certain movies, such as JPIII, Pearl Harbor, U-571, etc... where the sound will TOTALLY envelope you. I mostly watch action movies, but even during non-action flicks you'll notice distant/background sounds that will add to the viewing pleasure. I say if $$$ isn't an issue than go for it...Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  17. Are you guys listening/viewing in DTS mode on the AC/DC DVD? That has GOT to be one of the best out ther so far. I listen at 110+ dB regularly with that one... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  18. Congrats on the KLF purchase. You'll love them for HT and music also. Here's my set-up: KLF-30 - Mains KLF-10 - CC KLF-20's & 10's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sub I've also got another set of 20's which I'll use as surrounds and move the 10's to the back center when I build a dedicated HT. As I stated in your other post "I" didn't feel the C-7 was a good match for the 30's, at least at the loud volumes I use when viewing. The KLF-10 conversion does a MUCH better job. I'm still looking for a solo 20/30 to convert for the right price. I got the '10 as a scratch & dent for $150 and used some scrap MDF to make a new front, so a lot less $$$ than a C-7 for much better sound/integration across the front. I power mine with a Denon 3802, which lets you use 2 sets of surrounds. At 110WPC it has plenty of power and I normally listen at/near reference level. Gotta love those Legends....Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub This message has been edited by Mlstrass on 08-02-2002 at 09:10 AM
  19. Justin, Have you considered DIY? A dual Tempest sonosub with a QSC or Hypex amp would be VERY hard to beat for $700-$900 total and a little time spent in the garage. If not interested in DIY, SVS seems to be the way to go. That was my choice until I got the DIY bug. I'm very happy with my sub, but am sure the SVS also would have been great, just more $$$. ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  20. Grab up the 30's when you get the chance, but don't discount the 20's for surrounds if they become available at a good price. I've picked up 2 pair locally for $500 a set. IMO the C-7 can't keep up with the 30's up front. I did a KLF-10 CC and it's light years better. The C-7 does a great job as a back center though since there's not much material sent back there. Good luck deciding...Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  21. I bought it online last Fall before I knew about the unauthorized dealer hassle, so I'm stuck paying for it if it's not anything simple that I'm overlooking... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  22. Returned home from a business trip today to discover that the ON/STANDBY button is flashing. According to the manual it's either over-heating, which can't be the case since it hadn't been played recently, or one of the speaker connections is shorted. I disconnected ALL of the speakers from the unit and still get a flashing light. I tried resetting the processer and still no luck. Could the unit have been over-heated/played too loud while I was gone, and not be able to recover? I can't believe my wife/son would play it that loud with 9 Klipsch towers hooked up. Any other ideas??? TIA...Mike ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  23. arfz28, Sounds like you've got it figured out, and it's definitely easier to measure twice than to recut once, so take your time and have fun. ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  24. Glad to hear you got started on it. 3 hours for 3 endcaps???? Seems like a long time to me, but as long as you're having fun. I'm assuming you're wearing a dust mask... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
  25. boa12, Lots of Legends in the house. I actually have another pair of 10's that will go into the back center position when I move to a bigger house with a dedicated HT. And of course I'll build another sub. Add in a 120" projector set-up and I'll have MY dream system.... ------------------ KLF-30 - mains KLF-10 - center channel KLF 10's/20's - surrounds KLF-C7 - back center DIY dual Tempest sonosub
