  1. Klipschaholik, Lookin' very good! I recently completed a full restoration on a set of Heresy's and now I am just about to the veneering stage on the restoration of a set of Cornwall's. Fun Stuff! Which source did you use for your veneer? Usually, you would have to tape the veneer to get it that wide unless it is backed. Yours does not look backed. Good Work!
  2. So the 1/8" is in the ball park. The search is continuing...........
  3. See what you guys think of this in 3/32 or 1/8. This is one of several I am looking at. I cannot find my calipers(i'll check with my 10 year old after school, I bet he knows where they are)so I cannot verify their specs, but it looks close. Could not figure out the link thing so you will have to do some typin'. http://www.rivetsinstock.com/rivet17.htm
  4. You are welcome DaddyDee. I think I may have found the rivets too. I am sending a picture and follow up sample to the sales person so he can confirm. Let you all know when I get confirmation.
  5. Craig, They are made by Keystone, so I would have to think Mouser has had them all along. I think they have carried Keystone stuff for awhile. I would not imagine them being new to Keystone either. Without that darn printed catalog no one could ever possibly be familiar with all Mousers products as their inventory is unbelievably HUGE! And yes, I will absolutely shoot you a bucket full of the rivets when not if I find them
  6. Mike, Unfortunately, I am one of those anal types that like everything as original as possible. They drilled out nicely, I kept the mini lock washers on the interior chassis side. If I cannot find the small rivets, by gosh I will die tryin' .
  7. Don't know if anyone cares but just in case you need these and have not been able to find them. My 299 has a broken speaker screw terminal strip so I thought piece of cake, I will find some on the web or buy some locally. Yeah right! I searched the web for two days and came up empty. Then yesterday I got the new Mouser Electronics Catalog in the mail and guess what I found on page 799? HooYaa! I am one happy guy now. The five screw strip is the exact replacement mounting hole wise(2.63" center to center), sweet! Now all I have to do is find those little rivets they used to attach them to the chassis. Ah what the Hell, lookin' for this stuff is half the fun.
  8. Thanks Piranha. Gary is one of three gentlemen I have contacted. He is going to let me know if he comes up with something. Just thought I would through it on the board too, you never know.
  9. Hello All, A bit of a problem and I need your help. I have a Scott 299(a) which is missing the "Loudness" (small/single/outer)knob. It uses the all gold metal knobs not the knurled plastic with gold cap Marshall amp. style knobs. I am having a much more difficult time finding this knob then I expected. I have already contacted a couple folks here which one would first think to contact, but no luck yet. If anyone can help with this, just let me know how much and I will get the funds to you the fastest possible way. Any help GREATLY appreciated. Best Regards
  10. Thanks Greg! I know what you mean about the backing. Fortunately in my case, the backing and the Cherry face are almost identical in color. But at the thickness of this veneer(22.2 mil BFV)I am still very concerned about the edgeline. I am going to veneer a sample piece and finish it as I will be finishing the Corns. If I do not see a nice grain transition from bottom to sides to top, I will have no problem s@#tcanning this sheet(4x12 @ $2.00+ per sq. ft., ouch)and ordering raw. I am not going to put in the time and effort on these cabinets that I am, only to have them turn out anything short of absolutely perfect. Also, you are right about the face thickness. I am going to have to take extra care in handling the veneer so that any sanding that has to be done prior to finish will be minimal. The sad part of this thing is that these '81 Cornwall's are finished COL with cane , but the cabinet surfaces were so screwed up(I cannot believe someone would treat these with such disregard)that they could only be salvaged by veneering. In the past, I have just built new cabinets(mostly Heresy)but decided to patch these cabinets and veneer them. I'll let you know how it goes and thanks again for the input. Best Regards!
  11. Greg, I have always used raw, unbacked veneer on all my projects with good results. However, for this project I bought backed(thought it might be nice to not have to tape for a change)flat-cut cherry veneer from Oakwood Veneer. Just wanted to try it. Do you see a downside to the backed veneer?
  12. Greg, I see you are using Weldwood Contact Cement on this project. Did you decide against the Tite Bond II iron on method this time? If so, any particular reason? I am getting ready to veneer a set of Corns using the iron method. I have used the Weldwood in the past to veneer but was looking forward to trying the iron method. Look forward to your thoughts.
  13. Paul & Andy, When I have more time(I could get very long winded about my week in Hope as you could imagine)I definitely have some great memories to share, especially about going to PWK's home. Garland was definitely something special, right Andy? What a concept, all the Beer, Fried Catfish, Shrimp and Hushpuppies you could handle, I don't see it getting alot better than that. I remember when we left the compound late one afternoon and headed for Garland, we piled into 2 cars. I rode with a young lady from accounts rec.(wish I could remember her name, real sweetheart, as was everyone at Klipsch back then), Chuck Mulhearn(remember Chuck?)and I think his wife or girlfriend and two other guys I cannot remember. It sounded like it was not far, but man it seemed to take along time(with a stop at, was'nt it called "Piss Bridge")to get there. You are right, I remember walking in and basically just taking over the place with our group, but I could see that they were very, very $$$happy$$$(what's a little loss now and again, hehehe)to have us, and I could tell it was not the first time. When exactly did you leave Klipsch Andy? Did I read somewhere it was the late '70's? I will try to get back to the keyboard later today or so, and try to start at the beginning. Cool stories about PWK's passion for building model railroad, interesting photography techniques(hehehe), his then wife and her Pianos, etc. This is great, I have not had anyone to share these stories with for about 15 years, who really cares outside this forum. Told my wife of course, but if you do not have Klipsch in your blood, heart and soul like we all do(I am forever indebted to you PWK)the stories and memories just don't mean much.
  14. I just got goosebumps looking at the picture of PWK sitting on the Heresy! I stood in that exact spot shoulder to shoulder with him in the early '80's(I believe not long after the chamber was completed)while he explained its benefits/use to myself and 4 other guys that were invited back to spend a week in Hope at the plant, compound, PWK's home(trains, pianos, lap pool, oh my)and all the Catfish and hushpuppies we could eat in good old Garland. I know there have to be a few others around that know exactly what I am talking about. I will never ever forget that week, It was almost surreal. I remember that standing inside of the anechoic chamber when it was closed, that I/we(including PWK)lost my/our equilibrium/balance because of the absolute eerie, dead silence. You will never experience that kind of silence without being in this type of isolation. Sorry if I rambled, but seeing that picture took me back to a time in my life to which I look upon with great fondness and absolute reverance. Kind of made me giddy!
  15. Dee, I have been away from 2 channel audio for about 13 years now and am just getting interested again. As I mentioned, I will be using the EICO with a set of Heresy's that I am almost finished rebuilding. New cabinets, networks(ALK designed type "E" replacements that I built), wiring, etc.. Alot of work and expense for the Heresy's I know, but I do not have room for anything larger. So, I am going to milk every last sonic drop out of the little guys and the EICO will help me achieve that. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Jordan
  16. 1. 1975 KWO's(new), 1977 LSBR's(new), 1980 HOO's(new). Only currently owned Heritage is a pair of rebuilt 1983 HBR's. Own lots of Synergy and Reference stuff for HT. Would like to have a set of KHorns again someday, only had mine for two years, miss them. 2. 18 3. 46 4. In '75 there were no other Klipsch, Still are'nt 5. If I had the proper room(cannot even build false corners)I would have a set of KHorns in a heartbeat! Kindof like that first Love, you never forget them and nothing after is quite as good. 6. After much thought, I can come up with no reason that the Jubilee should not be included in the Heritage line. Jordan
  17. Sorry DaddyDee, but the EICO is on the way to its new home(after a short stop at Craig's for a tuneup)where it will be loved and cared for . A newly rebuilt pair of Heresy's await the new arrival. Jordan
  18. Well, in my opinion, Klipsch(even if it was only the Promedia 4.1)being advertised in this past weekends Circuit City ad is not much better. I was kind of shocked and dissappointed.
  19. My package came with a 1 meter cable. RCA to 1/4" for connecting to the sub-out on AV rec. to the 1/4" input on the Samson.
  20. Thanks for the input gentlemen, I appreciate it. #1 it is. Cheers!
  21. I have 2 options for mounting my RS-7's. I know to the side with one pair(5.1)is ideal, but they would be 7' from the floor. So, my question is, which of the following scenarios would be better: 1)On wall to the sides of listening positions 7' to 7.5' from the floor. 2)On wall directly behind listening positions 5' to 6' from the floor. All input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  22. I have SS-1's which I would like to replace. I have RF-5's up front and an RC-7 center. I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a pair of RS-7's, but? The RS-7's would have to be mounted about 7 ft. off the floor on the rear wall(where the SS-1's now reside). My wife sits directly below the right one and myself, the left. Not good anyway, but it is what it is. I was tossing around a couple of options and could use some input. If I were to use thw RCW-5's, I could mount them in the wall at the perfect hgt. behind each listening position instead of well above. Or, I was even considering doing a through-the-wall install with a pair of RB-5's. Again, mounting hgt. could be wherever. Now, if the RB-5 was a sealed enclosure, I would do this option in a heartbeat. But, considering that they are rear firing ported enclosures, the ports would be firing into the garage. Probably still better than the RS-7's or RCW-5's, but what do you think? Oh, and the power handling of the in-walls is a concern for me even though 50 watts cont. for a surround is plenty. I am using an Anthem MCA50, which is about 185x5 into 8 ohms. All input will be greatly appreciated. ------------------ Stubby
  23. Thanks for all the help fellas. I am not going to compromise performance with poor placement. I have decided to beg for the WAF, so that I may remove pictures which hang below my current surround locations for proper placement of the RS-7's. Wish me luck. ------------------ Stubby
  24. I am replacing my SS-1's with RS-7's(to go with my RF-5's and RC-7). I am not at all happy with my current placement of the surrounds, but am limited somewhat in my available mounting locations. Currently, my surrounds are about one foot behind our listening position and about five feet above(about 8-12 inches from ceiling). I feel with this location that alot of info may be lost. I only have one other potential option due to room configuration and that is to mount the surrounds to the ceiling firing down on the listening postion. Would this be acceptable or should I live with my current location and perhaps calibrate a DB or two hot on the surrounds? Any input/thoughts will be greatly appreciated and respected. Thanks in advance. ------------------ Stubby
  25. I have a set of RF-5's for mains and an RC-7 for my center. I was just about to buy 4) RS-7's for my side and rear surrounds, but it appears I am now plagued with the WAF. Now, I am considering 4) RCW-5's instead. I would have to mount them in the ceiling firing down because I have a header beam behind the sheetrock in one of the wall mount locations. They are infinite baffle type just like the standard ceiling mounts, so I assume this would not be a problem, but would like some input on the subject. Any help will be most appreciated. ------------------ Stubby
