  1. Dave that looks really nice. It seems like it should be very sturdy. It looks like the horn is around 4” height. That’s what I have mine set at and there is no need for tilting. If the horn was higher that might be a different story. If one did want to tilt though they could do that with footers underneath.
  2. I Am not even sure how I could even measure 1/64😊. When my HF is aligned I can here the difference left and right of the center position as well as standing in the area behind my listening position. Of course the soundstage locks in and sounds best when sitting in the sweet spot but that is the case whether you are aligned or not. My room is Fairly small, 13x17, so there is not a lot of listening angles to choose from.
  3. The difference I am hearing does not require that you have your head in a vice. I do have a sweet spot for critical listening but the benefits of the alignment are noticeable within a reasonable area of that. The benefit in my system is a much more focused image with greater immediacy and natural sounding timbre. The difference I am hearing is not small. Some may be critical of this but my guess is they have not actually tried it. Everyone values different things in their system so to each his own.
  4. I time aligned my tweeter on top of my Cornwall and could notice a difference at 1/8" one way or the other. I did not try 1/64". I cannot explain why there was such a difference at this small of variation. The difference to me though is quite noticeable. IMHO once you have heard a Cornwall with tweeter that has been time aligned you will never go back.
  5. You could have screw holes predrilled in the base so that it can be used for different speakers. Example if you want to use on a Cornwall and have the base extend to the back only you can. If you want to use on a LS have a different set of predrilled holes so the base can be shifted towards the front.
  6. I am sure either would work although my preference would be a wood base rather than a metal one.
  7. I think a 6x6 piece would work. Based on where I have it time aligned on the Cornwall it would be close to the back edge but not go over
  8. Possibly if there was small piece of wood screwed or glued to the back side to help support it so that it would not easily topple over.
  9. Both options look good. I would be good with the cut out as in the bottom 3 pics since I already have the wood lens. That way it would fit in the same way as it would in the motorboard.
  10. Dave that would be a great idea. Mine is currently 4 /1/2” from speaker to center of the tweeter. I am sure there would be some flexibility in height.
  11. My walnut lens showed up this week and they look great. I put some Watco dark walnut Danish oil on them and they match up pretty well with the speakers. I decided to set them on top of my Cornwalls and see what the effect would be of time aligning them. It was a huge difference putting everything into better focus. The walnut lens looks so good that I think it will look fine sitting on top of my speaker. I need though to come up with a better mounting solution as right now they are sitting on a couple of business card boxes.
  12. I second the Jupiter caps. I have them in my type b crossovers. I realize that they are a more expensive option but they have a very natural tonal quality. I have not heard the sonicaps but the Jupiter’s were far superior to my original oil caps.
  13. Those look really good Dave. Looking forward to getting a pair.
  14. Schu is right. There are a lot of things that could cause this. If you have a way to check your tracking force you should see where your weight is compared to the recommended range for your cartridge. If you are tracking this too light then the cartridge may be mistracking. Higher frequencies will be more noticeable during the mistracking causing them to sound sibilant and distorted. Best to find part of the record that you notice the distortion and then adjust force and relisten to that same passage. If that doesn’t address this then will need to evaluate antiskate, azimuth, tracking force, alignment etc.
  15. Really nice work Dave. I am curious if you have been able to compare the sound of the wooden horn with the aluminum horn.
  16. Brian, it does not have a wood case. The case is covered in a brown vinyl. I was told from the dealer that they went over the unit to make sure everything was working as it should but do not think they replaced caps unless they found something was out of spec.
  17. I am selling a mid 60's Scott 333b am/fm tuner. This is the model that has the built in tubed stereo multiplex unit. There are two dials one for am and one for fm. I recently picked up from a local vintage stereo shop and they had gone over it to make sure all was in good working condition. I had planned to use for an office system that never materialized. I am asking $275 and will include shipping at my asking price. If in the Denver area pickup is welcome.
  18. I am using one by Vibrato Ultrasonic. I have been told that the higher frequency units work better and are less abrasive with vinyl. Mine is the Vibrato 80khz version on their website.
  19. I posted on the other thread yesterday but really do like ultrasonic cleaning of records. I use the Vinyl Stack system as well and it works great. As far as solution I use distilled water with a small amount of Isopropyl alchohol and a few drops of Kodak Photo flo. I will change the solution after around 20-25 records.
  20. I have tried cleaning records many different ways, by hand and with a VPI. The best method I have found is ultrasonic cleaning. You need a large enough cleaner to fit the lower part of your records. Best to go with a higher frequency such as 80hz rather than the more common lower frequencies. The low frequencies are good for cleaning grease off car parts but would not want to put my records in there. I found a Vibrato cleaner and there is a company called Vinyl Stack that sells a good system for cleaning 3 records at a time. Overall less expensive than a VPI but much faster and better cleaning.
  21. I think there are other less expensive options for 300b amps for Klipsch speakers. When I got the p21’s I had 4ohm speakers and needed a little more power than 8 watts. I have heard the Coincident Frankenstein 300b SET’s and they would be a great match with Klipsch speakers and are around $6000. iMHO the quality of the power supply makes a huge difference. Many of the lower priced 300b amps seem to sacrifice in this area.
  22. The speakers are currently stock cornwall 1's although I just put in some new Dean Westcot XO's with Jupiter caps that made a huge difference.
  23. Not sure what happened to the resolution of my previous pic. This should be a better one. There are definitely less expensive options but these amps have a grip on the bass that few 300b amps have.
  24. I am using the Border Patrol P21’s with my Cornwall 1’s. Not sure of the specs but they are dead quiet and sound great I first heard them awhile back at RMAF in the Volti room. I think the BP amps are all a good match for Klipsch speakers.
