  1. I suppose this would be my most practical solution as well. Thank you sir. Ah I see. Would it be a problem if I never made the mistake of actually trying to feed a signal from both amps simultaneously? I think I'll go with the switch device above, but just for curiosity.... Hell yeah sounds nice and streamlined. Is that an integrated amp? EDIT: Nevermind I see it's a preamp. Looks very damn useful too, those sub pre-outs alone have me considering it haha.
  2. Speaking of running two sources....would it be ok to have the CWIVs plugged into two sources/amps at the same time and using the jumpers? So long as I didn't try to feed it two signals at the same time? Like make sure only one source/amp is powered on at one time? Or is the risk just too great? Like what would happen if one day I did accidently feed it two different sources simultaneously? Instant speaker death? Ah the struggles of a dual purpose (music/home theater) system.... Man I played around for weeks in my room. I did at one point have them setup just like you, I'm sure there's a picture or two here in this very thread. But for me and my small-ish room with 7ft ceilings, close to the wall and barely toed in was the way.
  3. Ok yeah when you put it that way I see your point! I bought mine sight unseen/unheard! I based it on reviews alone. I found them to be pretty shouty before I found the right placement and toe-in. I ended up stuffing them back as far in the corner as they would go and just barely toeing them in. I'm in love now and I still have upgraded electronics to look forward to! Currently running a Schiit Modius DAC into an old Onkyo A/V receiver. Well not old old but from like 2016. I have my sights set on a Freya+ pre and Schiit Aegirs in monoblock. Possibly considering one of their multi-bit balanced DACs too. I'm just scared I'm gonna drop over 3k on electronics and it won't make much difference.....I'm not a huge believer in electronics but I do know that adding in the Modius into my current chain and bypassing the internal DAC of this A/V receiver was quite the upgrade in clarity and musicality. I'm hoping for a similar revelation with a preamp and class A monoblock amps.
  4. Yeah see my impression is for the kind of money we paid for these Cornwalls they had better be impressive, and they are haha. But I sure as hell wouldn't claim them to be some bargain in hifi lol.
  5. @Joecoulson very nice and clean setup there! Fear Inoculum is one of my hifi benchmark albums that I use to get a feel for new gear, I love it and it's very well done aside from some weird crackling in Pneuma, which I'm sure you've heard as well.
  6. I can also attest to the Modius. It was my first and only DAC purchase. Balanced DAC for $200 is hard to beat.
  7. Ohhhh ok I think you're right. So you didn't try to run the Aegir in stereo mode using the XLR converter/XLR input on the Aegir? I'm not too sure about the loudspeaker world but in the headphone world you cannot convert a SE cable to a balanced cable with an adapter since the original SE cable lacks the grounds required for a balanced cable and an adapter won't change that, matter of fact I think you can damage equipment trying this. You can, however, adapt an XLR cable into an RCA cable with an adapter, but not the other way around A cool thing about the Freya+ is that it can convert an unbalanced source into a balanced source. So you could use an unbalanced DAC (RCA into preamp) and output it as a balanced signal through the XLR output on the Freya+. I think the Freya+ is pretty special in this regard, meaning it's one of the few preamps that can achieve this.
  8. Ok I'm glad that's cleared up. This is why you had a bad experience with one Aegir. The Aegir is not to be used with the XLR input unless you're running them in mono mode. So you never even heard your Aegir in stereo mode since you were using the XLR input. The XLR input is a mono only input. It's a wonder you didn't fry it or something....
  9. Might wanna change the title of your thread...and perhaps an admin should move this to the Solid State amps section since we're using it as a conversation thread haha.
  10. So wait...when you were using the Aegirs in monoblock mode were you using a balanced source running an XLR into each Aegir? Because that's the only way to get 80wpc out of the Aegirs. Matter of fact tghat's the only way Schiit recommends running them in mono mode.
  11. Something I did that truly helped with bass impact in my room was plugging a "Cornhole™" on each speaker. I plugged the Cornhole™ on each speaker that's furthest from the wall. So the two Cornholes™ closest to the wall are open. I know this has been mentioned in this thread already but I just wanted an excuse to say Cornhole™, since I literally just thought of it and find it hilarious 🤣
  12. Damn are you serious?? You had them in monoblock? I've been strongly considering a Freya+ Aegir monoblock setup for my Cornwall IVs....pretty much had my mind made up.... EDIT: Jesus I didn't realize you were already responding to my comment about "strongly considering a Freya+ Aegir setup" LMAO. It's a good thing I quit smoking weed cause I'm already an idiot 🤣
  13. What pre-amp did you decide to go with? I'm strongly considering a Freya+ and Aegir monoblock setup for my CWIVs.
  14. Oh wow. Just bought CWIVs in early June, glad I pulled the trigger when I did!
  15. Haha not just yet. I do have it though. I'll definitely update the thread when I get around to putting it on.
  16. Thanks everyone. I actually ended up buying a 3rd party TV base that will raise my TV enough to be able to fit everything on the TV stand! I believe @RandyH told me about it in my other thread talking about covering the TV and TV stand with a blanket during 2-channel listening. EDIT: actually, it was @billybob who told me about the TV base.
  17. Thanks brother I'm going to pick one up. Found one offered on Prime that actually fits a 65" TV too.
  18. @billybob that is an interesting product! I wonder if I could mount my TV to that and have it behind my current TV stand so that the TV appears to float over the TV stand. That would put the TV a little further back AND allow me to possibly put monoblock amps and pre-amp on top of my TV stand! That thing is so cheap it kinda makes me nervous LOL. Almost too cheap. Thanks for sharing that! EDIT: hell even if it use it on top of my current TV stand (like it's designed) it would allow me to put the monoblock amps and pre-amp up there too!
  19. Thanks for the informative reply! I've actually been strongly considering a Schiit complete system. Two Aegir in mono mode and a Freya+ pre-amp. I already own a Schiit Modius DAC. 80W of class A power is quite the draw. But I worry about them heating up my room LOL. I would also need to put each monoblock amp on top of a Cornwall IV, as I have no where else to put them where they can get the air they need. I would also possibly need to put the Freya+ on top of a Cornwall. That kinda worries me with it having a tube gain stage, but I don't believe the Cornwall IV vibrates enough for it to be a problem for it.
  20. Definitely solid state. I've been strongly considering a Schiit Aegir monoblock setup....80W of pure class A for $1600 a pair is hard to beat...
  21. I fully believe in the lab leak theory. I also believe fully that I do not want covid-19. I'm fully vaccinated (Pfizer) and wear a mask in public. I find it weird that many who also believe in the lab leak theory also tend to have a don't give a shit attitude towards getting covid-19.... Pfizer vaccine just got FDA approval as of this morning, so that excuse is out the window as far as a reason to not get it. I personally know two people who have died of covid in the last month. Both were avid Trump supporters and anti-mask and anti-vaxx. I don't know who needs to hear this but TRUMP GOT THE VACCINE!!! He just mentioned this again over the weekend at a rally in Alabama...he was booed by the crowd of his supporters. Sad...
  22. I've been considering going to a monoblock setup for my CWIVs, and was wondering if anyone has put their electronics on top of their large Heritage speakers (LaScala, Cornwall etc), as this would be my best option in my current room. Plus I think it would look cool to have a monoblock amp on top of each Cornwall IV.... Assuming I'm not worried about slightly messing up the finish on my CWIV, are there any other reasons why this is a bad idea? My CWIVs don't seem to vibrate a whole lot, even at my rock out listening levels... Assuming I am worried about the finish on my Cornwalls, is there anything you all do to avoid messing up the finish when using your speakers as a piece of furniture?
  23. I'm going to give this song a listen when I get home, the track is on Tidal? I'm curious because my room is imperfect and I'm also using a cheaper A/V receiver to power my CWIVs. Is there a specific point in the track here you hear this anomaly? Now that I've read your last reply I see that you've come to the conclusion that it's your ears...I'll still give it a listen when I get home though.
  24. Guys I wouldn't exactly say I have a problem with the way my system sounds now, me covering my TV is really just experimenting. I do feel that with certain songs the CWIVs can come off a bit harsh or shouty. But I have quite a few things with my system that can be causing that. For one, my ceilings are a good foot lower than Klipsch recommends (7ft), secondly there's the giant reflective TV and TV stand between my speakers, thirdly I'm powering these speakers with an Onkyo TXNR757 A/V receiver being fed by a Schiit Modius. Introducing the Modius into the chain and bypassing the internal DAC of the Onkyo was a HUGE upgrade. I'm thinking upgrading my amp and bypassing the Onkyo completely would possibly give me the same results lol. I've considered going many different routes in regards to upgrading my electronics. I've considered a Cambridge Audio CXA81, I've considered the big boy Yamaha integrated with the VU meters, I've considered going with a monoblock setup from Schiit, either the Vidar or Aegir....One thing I haven't put much thought into is tubes... With the CWIVs being so efficient, I've seen reviews say that they don't scale very much with improved amplification....
  25. It’s funny you say that because at first I was using a giant bed comforter that covered the TV and TV stand completely. It’s just so massive and I don’t have a handy place to store it in this room when I don’t want the TV covered.
