  1. I hadn't listened to U2 in a very long time... Used to be a fan in my younger years. Have seen them a couple of times live, here in Europe. Who didn't... Not exactly 'audiophile grade' but when played loud, still fascinating music!
  2. Here is another one from Prince in the early days. Dirty Mind. Track 2 is my favorite one: When you were mine. Love the guitar on that one. Some lyrics NSFW!
  3. @MicroMara @dirtmudd And this is Alphabet St. on Prince's LoveSexy album.
  4. Please remember... the best piece of gear in your audio setup is... your brain. Watch this video and you'll get what I mean. More information on the backstory here: https://www.stereophile.com/content/listening-video-tribute-art-dudley
  5. @MicroMara You have a fine and very diverse vinyl collection from the early 1980s. They are in mint condition too!
  6. There 's a company who makes a business doing this adjustment under the microscope. They ask 500 US Dollars for it. The price of a Puffin...
  7. Her lyrics make me think of Lou Reed, but then again, they met in the 90s and got married in 2008.
  8. That song pulled on my heart strings when I was 11 years old! Update: The song was a commercial success in the international market at the time, reaching number one in Belgium (Flanders) and Netherlands, while peaking at number two in the United Kingdom. (Wikipedia)
  9. Two songs come to mind now: Radar Love, and When the Lady Smiles, with a very controversial music video, then and even more now.
  10. I used to have a dual, a fine turntable, as a student, and later when I was moving out to my apartment. But then I got children and the tt moved to the attic. Then, when preparing to move to a new house, I brought the dual tt to the local recycling facility... Still regret that day.. Anyhow, there's a lot of text on the back of the cover of that James Taylor album. What is is it about?
  11. This is about reproducing pianosound. Can you be more specific and perhaps give some examples of good recordings? The reason I ask is I have a piano at home, acoustic, and I have never heard a real to life recording. I can say the same about cello.
  12. One thing I have learned over the years is to look at the record labels (and sometimes even the sound technician) in the album notes/details. For jazz music, for instance, there are some labels that offer consistently a great quality catalogue of recordings: Riverside, Bluenote, Verve. For modern classical, ecm records is an example. For pop there's Chrysalis records etc. If these sound bad, there's something wrong with your sound system...
  13. Any genre will do, on the condition it is well recorded...
  14. https://www.lexicommultimedia.nl/product/luxman-neo-classico-ii-sq-n150-buizenversterker/ I have looked at this one myself. It comes with EL84 tubes and therefore, it can be compared with my Leben CS300. I love the design, it is Luxman, of course... One of plusses is that it comes with an integrated phonostage both for MC and MM cartridges. As it is only 10 Watt, you'll need highly efficient speakers (Klipsch Heritage is perfect for them!). Comparing this tube amp with the Luxman's top of the line solid state integrated amp is like comparing apples with pears. Both have their merits, and owning either of them will make you a happy fellow! If you listen often to powerful, complex rock or symphonic classical music, go for the solid state amp. If you listen often to subtle, acoustic instrumental or vocal music, go for the tube amp.
  15. One can tell by their website that this is a work of love! They plan to sell amplifier as well and, from the looks of it, they are going to sell every unit they produce! https://www.westernelectric.com/91e Looks to me like a perfect match for a Khorn/Scala set!
  16. You better choose an Amp dedicated to music rather than home cinema. In this case, less is more...
  17. I mentioned connectivity in my first post, but I think you're now asking about sound quality, right? That's a tough question to answer, or at least to predict. I can only relate my own personal experience. In the past 3 years, I have owned quite a few amps, and they all have different quality and character, they all sound different, and though you'd think that is something subjective and personal, it really is not. Some amps make music sound hollow and artificial, some make you hear the original musical instruments. Some amps sound nicely balanced in the lows, mids and highs, while others exagerate the lows or highs in an ugly way. And the newest amps, or those with the highest watts are not necessarily the best sounding either. In my case, my best amp is my Leben CS300 tube amp. It has 12 Watts. It was made in Japan around 2007. Next in line my Harman/Kardon 430 twin engine receiver, made in the US in the 1970s. Twin engine here means that it has separate transformers for both channels. It is solid state, but sounds really well and powerful; I also own a Denon microsystem which sounds really good. Then I have an entry level Marantz PM5005, which I liked in the beginning, but now that I have the H/K430 and the Leben CS300, that Marantz 'hearts my ears' when I listen to it... In short, what you need is an amp that is able the recreate the musicality of the original instruments/vocie or the 'live experience' of a rock concert.
  18. On the Dutch Wikipedia they write that in 1977, Marc Moulin was a member of Aksak Maboul for a short period of time. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Moulin
  19. I don't know if there is a link, but this music makes me think of Marc Moulin and St Germain
  20. Welcome to the forum! Your Harman/Kardon 3737 is a fine amplifier and should do fine with both speaker sets. It does lack modern connectivity like Spotify Connect, Wifi, Internet radio etc. But if you don't need that immediately, I would first invest in the RF7 and use the H/K with them for a while. It could well be that this combo works well together! The RF7 III is quite a different beast than the RP280F: the RF7 is a high-end, really powerful speaker and you should definitely choose an amplifier that matches that quality. They love good tube amplifiers like Primaluna and other brands, but the price point is steep: you'll have to invest a couple thousand euros to get where you want. A good solid state amp can sound really great too and they are cheaper and more user friendly. There are many out there, and my suggestion would be the Marantz PM7000N, which is an amplifier with future proof streaming capabilities. Its amplifier section is double mono, which is a good thing: both channels have their power section. Note this is an amplifier for music lovers, it is less usable for home theater or multi channel setups. https://www.marantz.com/en-gb/shop/amplifier/pm7000n
  21. Wow, that's an amazing collection! It's weird, but I have never owned an Arno or TC Matic album... Oh La La La is still a hit a parties, even for teenagers anno 2021!
  22. Arno is still going strong, even at his age... And of course, he loves vinyl: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5Af3TK801DLLddm18EqCfA/store And I want to make clear to our international friends that Arno grew up in Ostend, his mothertongue is Flemish, a sort of the Dutch language, but he likes to sing in French, after all, Belgium has three official languages (Dutch, French and German). He's very popular both in Flanders and in Wallonia, and France. And he stutters when he's not singing! In Belgium, he is often compared to Toots Tieleman, the famous jazz musician who grew up in the Marollen (Brussels), who also was perfectly bilingual. He used to be quite 'punk' and rock 'n roll in his young days, but now he is appriciated by mainstream too. He was the official voice for the Toy Story opening song in Flanders:
  23. I just want to stress that the Belgian people have NOTHING in common with the Dutch, even though with live in close proximity, south of them, and we speak the same language. In fact, our musicians play guitar in a totally different fashion! So forget about Dutch bands like Golden Earring and Focus. Instead enjoy Tjens-Couter, for instance, with Tienne Couter on the guitar and Arno Hintjens doing the vocals! Ps My attempt at being goofy. Arno anno 2021, recovering from cancer:
  24. Jan Akkerman is from The Netherlands, a really crazy people that love to terrorize the rest of Europe by being loud and not staying in hotels but occupying camping sites all summer during summer holiday. At least when there's no corona. 😉 This is my favourit Focus song, with Akkerman on the guitar:
  25. I've never heard either of them, but the KLFs seem like mighty speakers to me. I think the difference will be cosmetic mostly: the Fortes are part of the Heritage line and have that vintage look, while the set you have now have that 'modern' look. I'm sure others will chime in and be more knowledgeable than me!
