  1. I've got hundreds of 45's, mostly picture sleeves and they sound great. But I bought them new as they came out. I've treated them like a baby. There are plenty of good used ones out there. But not at the goodwill. They're on ebay and start at around 5 bucks a piece. That`s a lot of money for 2 songs but the sleeves are what's so cool about 45s IMO.
  2. It's just a crime that this website does not have a place for the "Dope From Hope" and a FAQ section. We all owe you one Gil.
  3. Looks like a bidding war between a couple of newbies. Plain and simple. You remember what it was like when you first bid on something you really really wanted on ebay. Your heart started pounding out of your chest and it got real hard to think. It's a rush the first few times. Was for me anyway when I got my speakers and amp.
  4. There are some threads on this subject in the archives. Do a search using the word "Linear".
  5. Here is the thread. Copy and paste. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=56895&forumID=68&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={6C836BF0-F3F2-4F13-AFE0-538F93185BEE}
  6. There are 6 pages on this subject in the "website" section of the forum.
  7. Man just got some Cornwalls 2 months ago and now he`s about to get some Kornerhorns. You make me sick Patrick. I hate you! Now that I got that out of my system.....I paid $250 to have my CWs shipped cross country. You`ll probably pay that or more for K-Horns. There has got to be some in the LA area that will come up soon, as Piranha said. If you can stomach those Cornwalls another month or so?
  8. I lost my childhood collection of baseball cards last year in a flood Rob. I feel your pain. Things could have been much worse is the best way to think of it. Hopefully your insurance will cover the replacement of your $4000 dollar cables.
  9. Wish I`d never gotten in to tubes. There is so much stuff I need to learn. Damn funny Don.
  10. Obviously these guys didn`t used a bidding service which would have saved one of them or both a lot of money. This is the problem with proxy bidding. You are sticking your neck out there just inviting someone to come along and chop it off.
  11. Wow! Get a load of that room. He`s got it BAD!
  12. Wow. I just made the changes and I see a big difference. I did create the new integer, 'nglayout.initialpaint.delay' and I only increased the value from 4 to 8 on the 'network.http.pipelining.maxrequests'. Great tip. And for those that are not using Firefox you should really give it a try. I just love the tabs at the top of the page. Ingenious.
  13. If you are referring to an integrated amp then I still stand by my statement.
  14. My take on the first rule is that the author is talking about the quality of the information or signal that your speaker is capable of reproducing. The room would come into play once that is done so for that reason the speaker is more important than the room. You choose your speaker based on room size. Then you have speaker placement to deal with in that particular room. The room and speaker placement are all very important but the speakers come first. Always. For anyone to think the preamp is the least important item in a sound system leads me to believe one has never rolled tubes in one. Even if a SS front-end is used this little box is not just a place to turn the sound up and down. It`s the brain child of your entire system IMHO. It can color and or lose parts of the signal your source is feeding it or it can give your amp detailed bits of information that you would have other wise not heard. A vital link in the chain.
  15. I hope I make out as well as you did lynnm. Very nice. We will not be opening presents until late this afternoon. Some people have to work on Christmas and unfortunately my wife is one of them. But it does extent the holiday a bit, so while she`s working I`ll just clean house, wrap that last gift and get the Christmas cheer mixed and ready.
  16. Good guess Lonestar. Congrats. And Merry Christmas to you and your family.
  17. Well fini you smart arse, you took my number. So I`ll just take 2.
  18. Dean, that`s a mighty nice post. And what a kind gesture on your part. There`s not going to be just one winner here folks. We are all winners for having a forum member like Dean who is giving all of us this very special opportunity. Thanks Dean.
  19. jpm, Dodger is right. That Denon probably sounds as good as the day you bought it. But if you continue to spend time on this forum you are bound to start getting curious about what else is out there and would it be better for you. The bug may bite you. New CD player, turntable or whatever. Your player is fine.........for now.
  20. Technics SL-1600MK2 turntable. Bought it in 1981. Play it almost everyday.
  21. Hey Michael, Sorry if I got a bit of a short fuse. It just seems threads trail off into the unknown as you were saying. I was just trying to keep it on track. Why don`t you keep that avatar? Looks good to me.
  22. Well, I see that out of the 23 responses to this thread, 9 of them are due to what we call a "thread crap". This is the season to be giving so I just want to thank the poster who gave us the gift of putting this thread on the wrong track. Avatars? If you have a question concerning the above, start a thread. Don`t involve another. Geez.... Back to subject. What do you want Santa to bring you for Christmas?
  23. What is the one gift that you hope will be under the tree on Christmas morning? Or is it a pile of little things that will complete your holiday? Tell Santa now before it`s too late boys and girls. He`s loading his sleigh as we speak.
