  1. Here's an interesting article analyzing the performance of the PS3 vs. XBOX 360. For those expecting tons more power out of the ps3, Major Nelson disagrees: http://www.majornelson.com/2005/05/20/xbox-360-vs-ps3-part-1-of-4/
  2. This is I guess the main reason why you have those overheating, game freeze, and other problems some users are encountering with the unit. As a matter of fact, Microsoft already had support articles in their website prior to launching the unit. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;907588 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;907586 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;906652 Also, ever wondered why the unit came with a microsoft offer for a 2 year extended warranty? Makes me really ponder. But all is well for me until I get any of those problems so I'm knocking on wood. I would most likely get the extended warranty too before the 90 day basic warranty is over. I am glad that I did get one from the second shipment! [] Yeah, I'm excited for the PS3 as well, I'd like to see some more details on the machine and some 'real' graphics. Sony's E3 booth was all smoke and mirrors. I'll probably get it when there's a game I can't pass up. After all, right now, I have a Gamecube, PS2, XBOX, and XBOX 360 hooked up to my rig...[:$]. (And a Dreamcast in the other room).

Hey, no need for sarcasm here. Here's home theater secret's review: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_11_4/svs-pb10-subwoofer-10-2004.html As for hoffman's iron law, it's not like this thing is small, at 18" H x 15" W x 21" D....if I'm not mistaken, box size is one of the variables that plug into mr Hoffman's law. You should hear (and see it) it before you make such statements.
  4. Man 28 days later was AWESOME, at least in my opinion...a suitable homage to the great George Romero. As for 12 grams...thought it was a good film, but it shook me pretty good (disturbing) and I don't think I'll be viewing it again.
  5. Well, it's not exactly on purpose... Think about it. The final hardware structure for the 360 until about August (the betas were shown at E3, but those weren't final). So they had from August to November to get as many as they could produced and distributed (not a lot of time at all). This is compounded when you consider that this is a completely new custom chip...there are ALWAYS manufacturing issues with new chip dyes, and they process is constantly refined over the first few months to reduce/eliminate dud chips coming off the line (the dud factor is always high at the beginning of manufacturing of a new chip). Compound that with a worldwide launch (never been done before) and you have your shortage explained. My brother-in-law is an area manager for gamestop, and he exchanged his first run console. First one manufactured in August, new ones in November. So, despite speculation, I doubt the shortages were purposeful or manufactured (even though I originally thought they were until I did some reading).

Not even close. I recently helped a buddy set up and install the PB10-ISD...it exceeded my expectations for a 10" sub. It goes flat down to 18 Hz with authority, besting even my 25-31PCi for a smaller room. I was blown away by it's output. The Klipsch sub 12 is not even in the same league (Sorry Trey, but even though I know the policy is not to discuss SVS here too much, I can't let this guy be misled for no good reason...). Anyway, it's a great sub, and will outperform anything at that price point by a longshot. I'll shut up now.
  7. I LOVE mine. Call of Duty 2 is awesome, looks and runs better than the PC version. The dashboard interface is super-slick, and the media center functionality is awesome, except for the lack of xvid and divx codecs (may support in future). You can stream music, movies, pictues, etc...hit the big x button on the controller to access the dashboard at any time or play any music on your network in game...awesome. Couple that with great XBOX live arcade games for cheap (smash TV, geometry wars evolved), backward compatibility (still been playing Halo 2 online) and the best controller ever, and I've been glued to it for days. And yes, the first run of systems had problems....it's funny that no one remembers all the problems PS2 had at the time of launch ( I worked at babbage's at the time). The average system failure at launch for any console ever is 3-5%...Microsoft is well below this threshold, around the same as the PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox 1 launch. As for the PS3, I'll buy one if they make a God of War sequel or Shadow of the Colossus sequel, but I guarantee it'll have the same sort of problems at launch (the PSP was a nightmare, sony is not known for their quality)...there is a class action lawsuit against them right now that actually holds water...disc read errors on consoles sold up to 3 years after their launch...ahem. The microsoft lawsuit was thrown out of court BTW. Add to that the fact that lately Sony's strategy has been to plany rootkits on their consumers devices and computers, and I'll say no thanks until they prove that it's worth the $500 price tag it's likely to carry.
  8. Dude, if you can afford one, I highly recommend a Paul Reed Smith. The guitar of guitars. CAn sound like a strat, gibson sg, les paul, etc...and once you play a hand made guitar like that (not like some other mass produced stuff), it really grabs ahold of you. Highly recommended. Go play one somewhere and you'll see what I mean.
  9. I enjoyed it, but I'll have to say I like the old one better. I like Gene Wilder's more cynical Willy better.

    Equilibrium

Yeah, it's actually based heavily on both George Orwell's 1984, and Metropolis. I enjoyed it.
  11. boomer, The original film was inspired by the radio broadcast, but in most part based on the H.G Wells novel that was written in 1898. (not to be confused with Orson Wells, who read the famous radio broadcast in 1938). All three adaptations (both movies and the broadcast) were interpretations of the book, not of each other. To get an idea on which was more accurate, here's the original novel in it's entirety: http://www.fourmilab.ch/etexts/www/warworlds/warw.html BTW, I haven't seen the new Spielberg movie, but the 1958 version, in my opinion, is horrible, and hardly a classic. But to each his own!
  12. I listen to most music in MP3 format. I have ripped my entire CD collection to HQ LAME VBR, and I cannot tell the difference on my main system, no matter how hard I try...in fact, I don't think anyone could in a blind test. MP3's are very easy to pick out when ripped at CBR 192 or below...but above 192 CBR or at HQ VBR...I'm hard pressed to hear any difference at any volume on any system (and I'm pretty picky..it took a lot of testing to ensure that this would sound the same to me, and it does.)
  13. Just set up a PB10-ISD at my buddy's house last night...Oh my god. This thing blew my mind. I myself have a 25-31 PCi, and was expecting this little guy to perform albeit not up to what I was used to. It blew my expectations right out of the water. SUPER loud, clear, and tight bass. And LOW. Played the training and helicopter crash scenes from the matrix...unbelievable. I am thoroughly impressed, just had to share my blown mind with you guys. Best bang for the buck on the planet.
  14. The first song that pops into my head when I think of this is: Rain When I Die off of Alice in Chains - Dirt One of the best uses of a Wah pedal ever...such a groovy riff.
  15. Definitely one of the best shows on TV. I love it. David Cross's character is a riot.
  16. Colter, No offense, just wondering what you mean by the 'very rich' when you point out who can afford to attend ballgames... I am pretty darn far from very rich, but I went to about 15 cards game this year, never at more than 30 bucks a game. Had some good seats, had some peanut heaven seats, but had a good time, and an affordable one (except for the price of beer ). Anyway, I'm just wondering about your statement and what you meant by it. If the stadiums weren't wanted by the fans, they wouldn't be built. The fans aren't rich people they're regular folk.
  17. Cool, thanks for the quick reply! Any other opinions?
  18. Oh yeah, I'll check the disc out tonight and see what I find.
  19. I have heard this on quite a few recordings, and sometimes it is just a compression artifiact in the recording. But other times I found that it is the digital crossovers clipping on my HK 525. I had a denon 2802 that did the exact same thing. Also happens on some CD's with especially hot recordings (loud). I guess it's the price we pay for having receivers.
  20. Anyone have any opinions on Swan Speakers? My buddy's been looking at them, an online only company. They seem to get good reviews, and also seem to be a good value...He's also looking at Klipsch of course, just wondering if anyone has heard these: http://www.theaudioinsider.com/cgi-bin/theaudioinsider/htsystemsbc.html
  21. Hahahaha. WTF. fos is an understatement.
  22. The three only movies I've ever walked out on: Very Bad Things - What a POS, made me want to vomit. Jurrasic Park 2 - Gymnastics kill dinosaurs...'nuff said. Stigmata - Worse than can possibly be imagined.
