  1. When you peel back the layers, it seems that the real reason behind all this anti-war rhetoric is folks simply dislike the President. When the previous Commander-n-Heat was slinging cruise missiles at obscure countries, only a few on the left questioned his motives. When he leveled Serbia, in the name of human rights, again - only a few said anything. Now George Bush is at the helm, and the left has done everything they can to discredit him - from hanging chaffs to ENRON to terrorism. While I encourage healthy critism of our government and its leaders, I also feel it's time we as Americans come together and show unity and strength against those who would do us harm. The "No blood for oil" and "restoring daddy's honor" accusations that are labeled against this President are unfair and unfounded. Until he proves otherwise, he deserves our support and not our condemnation. To me, in a time of war with soldiers abroad, that behavior is nothing short of treasonous. It's time to stand up and be counted! God Bless America United States Army Major, Infantry 1989 - Present
  2. I think Video Essentials has finally released their long overdue Digital VE. If you're a serious home theater buff, then it may make sense to wait and get that. However, if you need somethng now, then I recommend AVIA.

  4. Cool, some astronomy enthusiasts. For the last six years, I have had a Meade 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain (LX200). Because of its size, it's a massive pain to set up and take down, but I've had a few memorable observations that made it worth the trouble. Now, if I could only afford a decent CCD and a place with clear dark skies. BTW: My battle rifle of choice is the FN-FAL. Talk about Bad AZZ!
  5. What do I like in life? To crush my enemy, to see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentations of the women. Seriously, I'm into military antiques/collectibles. The majority of my time is toward collecting Japanese (Samurai) period items. Enjoyable, but very expensive.
  6. The way things are progressing in Washington he'll need a bombshelter.
  7. Associated Press - 16 February 2003 In a stunning announcement yesterday Best Buy acknowledged that it was adding Oreck vacuum cleaners to its line-up. At the news conference, the CEO of Best Buy said: "Here at Best Buy, we cater to the common folk. Just good ole fashion "mom and pop" type of place. Ordinary Joe-Six-Pack is our middle name and we're proud of it. While it's true that the Oreck is not as good as the venerable Hoover, we do feel it has its place on the showroom floor. There are enough weak minded people that actually believe the bowling ball commercial. Hey, what do you expect, we are going to take advantage of that segment of the market." In questioning the Oreck president and founder, David Oreck, about the legitamacy of the bowling ball commercial his response was "Well, there's a "sucker" hee hee born every minute" AP
  8. I'm not sure what all the hallabaloo is about. Putting the Synergy line-up into Best Buy is not such a bad idea. While not top of the Klipsch line, the Synergies will allow Klipsch to get their foot into the door of a wider consumer market. Brand loyality is often sparked with the purchase of lower end stuff. Pioneer, Mitsubishi, and Yamaha, to name a few, have all sold their low-end stuff at Best Buy, but IMO it hasn't hurt their reputation as makers of quality products. However, what doesn't make sense to me is saying goodbye to specialty stores such as "Tweeters". Those stores were an alternative for individuals wanting something better. There is more to this story than what the press release is telling us. For the audio snobs ... geez, it's just a set speakers! Get over it. My travels to Japan had taught me one very hard lesson: The mark of a great person is not based upon prestigious titles or esoteric names, but rather is measured through one's actions. That goes for speakers also. If you get wrapped around the axle over Klipsch catering to a low-end store, then that insecure behavior says more about the person, than it does the speaker. Anyway, something to think about.
  9. Okay, good discussion. Unfortunately, I have to bow out. The war drums are beating and I'm needed elsewhere - enough said. It's pretty clear that you guys do not agree with what America is doing. So be it. Nothing I say, is going to change that. For good or bad, I love my country. We, as Americans, don't always make the right calls, but in the end we have an amazing knack to come up on our feet and ultimately do what is right. It's okay to stand on the sideline and disagree. As an American citizen you have that freedom, but when the flag goes up, then all I ask is you stay out of our way until we've completed the mission. God Bless America!

I'd be hard pressed to name any country involved in the number of wars we have been. I hate to think what we might have done if "less prepared." But, everyone's got their own sense of irony. mdeneen ---------------- You can't be serious? Just pick any country on the European continent, including England. I too, hate to think what might have been done if we were less prepared.

It's only when we let our guard down that trouble strikes.

  15. All brutalists from Stalin, to Pol Pot to Slobadon to Bush have exacting, precise, well considered rationalizations. The man has been in office a little over two years and already some of you are putting him in the same boat with Stalin, Pol Pot and Slobodon? Shame on you! Well, since youre at it, you forgot one ... Haiti Somalia Iraq (Desert Fox) Sudan Serbia The end outcome of all rationalized brutalization is familiar - more oil, more diamonds, more redwood trees, more land, more of whatever it is we secretly coveted from the "infidels." Iraq is a pathetic punching bag. For those who imagine them a "threat" to the US, you are contradicting the entire credibility of 50 years of defense spending. If the US is so pathetically weak and undefendable as now being claimed - - when a 4th rate country with virtually NO effective way to project power across the globe is considered a "dire threat" then you would have to ask yourself this: "Why did the Reagan through Bush eras of massive "defense spending" yield so little in results? Matter of opinion I guess. I thinik they did a lot.
  16. Whooooaa!!! After looking at Dale's pictures I had no idea that K-Horns were that large. Those puppies are HUGE! Those speakers alone would exceed my maximum weight allowance for household goods during PCS moves. No wonder they're such an exotic-hard to find speaker. The WAF would never agree to it in 90% of the cases (at least the weefs I know). I can hear it now "You are going to put those where???" Anyway, beautiful speakers and great home theater set-up. Someone should start a HT thread where we can show and share each others toys at one consolidated locale. Aloha
  17. eBay sooner or later will have to change it's methods. It's way too easy for theives to steal your money. Perhaps establishing an eBay escrow where both parties have to be satified before transaction is complete might be the solution. That would probably ease the fears of the mOOns out there.
  18. eBay is a great source for things that normally are not available in the local area. For instance, I have an interest in collecting samurai / Japanese antiques. As you can imagine, it's kind of hard to acquire a rare 17th century samurai armor at WalMart. Anyway, I think you get my point. Just make sure one does their homework. Don't spend money on something that you wouldn't be afraid of saying goodbye to if things go sour. On more expensive items, try to limit your bids to strictly reputable folks or dealers. So far, knock on wood, I've had great success keeping those few principles in mind.
  19. Hey, that's a great system. Like skonopa mentioned, you probably have a better system than 98% of the folks out there. Thanks for sharing your home theater with us.
  20. You are getting very sleepy. Your eyes are feeling extremely heavy. When you wake up you will donate your Klipsch speakers to the RangerSix Foundation. Remember, we need your contribution. Have you given to a Ranger today?

This issue drives FUD around the idea that future proof = DVI. All set-top-boxes will now have DVI (some iLink/Firewire, too but none Firewire only) and Mitsu is the only display vendor I know of with iLink/Firewire only. Maybe DVI will evolve beyond what it is now but I don't think it will go away nor do I perceive iLink/Firwire will rise and be the winner. We may get to use iLink for connectivity usage and when we are allowed to record they will let us have iLink/firewire but as the primary connection from an HDTV set-top-box to display I don't see it. I've seen a lot of these technology wars and technology reasons for one vs the other are rarely a significant reason why one wins vs the other. In this case it seems to be all about Hollywood and copy protection. You can admire Mitsu and their stance and hate the copy protection but the answer to the question seems to be DVI and future evolutions of DVI. ---------------- That's not true. This battle is far from over. Call me naive, but I still believe in the power of the consumer. We shouldn't, as consumers, bow to the whims and dictates of Hollywood elites. Success or failure of a product, regardless of what it is, should be gauged through the wallet, not legislation pushed by paid off congressional cronies, blackmailed threats, or closed-door arm twisting of consumer electronics companies. If Disney, Universal, or Sony want to pout in the corner because consumers are not playing by theiir rules, well ... let them pout. There are enough enterprising folks that will be more than happy to fill the HD gap, i.e. Mark Cuban of HD-NET. It's all about power and control. Copy protection is only a smoke screen for the larger prize - CONTROL. I'm voting with my wallet. BTW: Mitsubishi sells the most RP HDTVs in the country. As I said earlier, this battle is far from over. DVI is cr*p!
