  1. Rob, Congratulations on an ultimate pair of Khorns. It's good not to worry about any upgrades for once. I wonder why would someone sell them though. Kudret
  2. Tom, Do you have a recommendation for a well recorded music that can be used to check the soundstage. I am afraid, at times I might be using poorly recorded pieces in my tests and blaming my setup while the problem is with the recording. In my understanding soundstage refers to the actual location of the instruments on the stage in 3-D. I have improved my setup to a point where I now have a 2-D soundstage on some recordings (which I consider good recordings). Having said that, I am still troubled by piano recordings which I find too difficult to localize. My sweet spot is also fragile for the most part. Vocals start to sound not right after a slight move to the left or right. Considering what I had before, I am happier with my setup now, but I also know that there is much room for improvement. Next on my agenda are to build a pair of Type A networks with high tolerance v-caps and also install v-caps in my amps to make sure that both channels are equal. Tweeters and mid drivers also need a closer check to make sure that they are equally loud. Finally I am building false half-corners for my Khorns. Kudret
  3. ok..ok.. I don't want to put too much pressure on you. Just let me know if you come across another one. Kudret
  4. [][][][] How much do I need to beg? Kudret
  5. jim, I saw that one. I think it's a bit overpriced, no. Kudret
  6. Allan, I was leaning towards Marantz 7 based on some reading I did on AA. C22 will also be an excellent choice and I will definitely consider it if I come across a mint unit with wooden cabinet. BTW. My two SPUs are on their way to Down Under. Frank, I agree with Guy, those are too good to be true! Kudret
  7. I just sold my Syrah preamp and I want to get a Marantz 7 (before I spend the money on something else) for my vintage 2-channel setup with MC30s. Can you please let me know if you have/see one for sale. Kudret
  8. Thanks, Larry. I just ordered one. Kudret
  9. Larry, do you have a link to the mirrored alignment tool. I would like to buy one.Kudret
  10. Audible Nectar, I've got a pair of MC30s. One of them is not as nice as the other, so I am still looking for another one. As soon as I get a nice pair I want to recap them with the best caps I can afford. Thank you for sharing. Kudret
  11. Thank you so much again, djk. I certainly appreciate having all the possibilities laid out before I start experimenting. Kudret
  12. Thank you, djk. I believe one can also reduce the value of the 13 uF cap to keep the crossover points the same. What would be the appropriate cap values to achieve the same? and is one approach preferable to the other? Kudret
  13. I've read many posts recommending capacitor upgrades in old networks. How about upgrading the autotransformers as well? I've upgraded the capacitors with GE oil caps in my Type A networks. I also upgraded the inductors to 12ga Solen solid core but I was still using T2A autotransformers. Yesterday I decided to replace T2As with 3636s that I was using in my DHA networks and that really made an immediately noticable improvement. I don't feel the need to turn up the volume anymore. Even at low levels everything is clear and balanced. They don't cost much. Try it, you might be pleasantly surprised! Kudret
  14. Scott, Simply stunning! You have a great talent. Kudret
  15. Dean, I found this thread. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/permalink/758463/758558/ShowThread.aspx#758558 Discussion is about AA and I thought it applies to A as well. Kudret
  16. Yeah, you had to rub that in. didn't you. Mine have improved as well. Kudret
  17. Bob, Thanks for pointing that out. I should have used the table on the right for Type A in the following figure: In this case, say for -4dB attenuation (input on X, output on 3) where does the swamping resistor go? Also, what size of resistor/capacitor do I use? Kudret
  18. I will be building a new Type A with 12 ga 2.4 mH inductor and 12 uF capacitor. With the above components the crossover points are already moved, but probably this is not too significant. I would like to try different attenuation levels for the squawker by changing the tap settings on 3636. I believe I need to either use a swamping resistor across 0-5 or reduce the size of the 13 uF capacitor as I increase the attenuation to maintain the crossover points. I want to try -3.8 dB and -5.3 dB and -6.0dB attenuation levels. How do you calculate the size of the required resistor or capacitor for these settings? 4-0 (-3dB default setting) 5-2 (-3.8 dB) or Y-1 (-3.9dB) X-1 (-5.3 dB) or Y-2 (-5.4 dB) 3-0 (-6.0 dB) Is there any sonic difference to these two approaches (changing the size of the resistor vs capacitor)? Kudret
  19. Thanks, Al. I will stick with v-caps then. I did not know the reason why As sound better, but to me they are like using no rubber.[] I am interested. What is it? Kudret
  20. I am with DD on this one. I use low powered tube amps and I do most of my listening at low levels. Among A, AA, DHA and Jr's, As are my favorite. I will be building a pair of As with V-caps. I would also like to hear As with Jensens sometime in the near future (any Type As with Jensens for sale, anyone?[]). Kudret
  21. Is there such a thing? I don't think I will ever get there (LOL). Recently several times I came close to selling everything and starting all over again with totally different components. Kudret
  22. Scott, Try http://www.babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr. Not perfect, but helpful. Kudret
  23. I was also thinking about rewiring my SME 3012. I did some reading on AA and was encouraged by a number of posts saying that it wasn't that difficult. I also managed to find some detailed instructions. This one was sent by Wolfram: http://dedi262.your-server.de/analog1/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=4495&boardid=2 After reading Allan's and Scott's experiences I certainly do not want to ruin my tonearm. As for which wire to use, cardas 33ga copper and van den hul MCS-150M silver wire were the top two contenders. Cardas costs about $1.5/foot and van den hul $75 for 4 pieces of 50 cm. Does anyone have any experience with either of them? Kudret
  24. I cannot use mine with SPUs as they require 4 grams. Luckily my current Ortofon tonearm was specifically designed for SPU so I just turn the counterweight by 4 grams. I want to order one of those $60 digital ones, but I am not very patient waiting for 5 weeks for delivery. Kudret
  25. Erland, I guess you did not get my email. Please check your PM. Kudret EDIT: Both of my email messages to you bounced back.
