  1. This is most likely what happened. I've been expecting two packages that were shipped from CO. One of them shows that there was a delivery attempt tonight at 5:38, but there was no delivery attempt at all (at least to this address, as my was home at that time). There was no yellow slip left out side showing the deliver attempt either. The other package took a totally different route in the opposite direction towards the West coast and ended up in WA, then to IL where it's beed sitting now for the last 12 hours. I should have known better not to use UPS. You cant beat USPS when it comes to shipping to Canada. Kudret
  2. Thanks for the link, Don. Last time I checked PartsExpress had a $50 minimum on international orders. Did you order from them before? Kudret
  3. I am looking for a pair of Altec 511b adaptors for k55v. If you have them for sale please let me know. Kudret
  4. Jeff, That might be what I am looking for. I think I also know the solution but they are too expensive for me, unless you are planning to get rid of some heavy speakers before the move.[6] Kudret
  5. Thanks for the list. Tung-Sol 12AX7 5 5 5 seems to be the best then??? I need 5 for my 7C.
  6. My basement is 17x35 and the Khorns are along the 17 wall. When they were in the corners and I was sitting 8 from the front wall the imaging sucked big time. Part of this problem (if not all) was probably due to the support beam going across the ceiling in my basement. As I had to sit too close to the speakers, I could not get used to the feeling that I was sitting on the stage either. Now they are away from the corners, 12 apart and toed in to the listening position which is ~10 from the front wall. They sound and image better now, but they still sound too forward to me. Of course, since they are not in the corners they dont go as low either. I want to build false corners and also try 511B midhorn but Ive already started looking for other speakers. Based on my experience, if you dont have the right roomKhorns may not impress you.
  7. Ben, I remember those discussions. I am using 10 9v batteries from that time to condition the Jensens. The actual voltage they see in the amps is ~160v though, but the batteries I have drained and measure only 40v. I am not sure if it will make any difference. Thanks Erik, I like them too. Mark, I bought two cutting boards from a kitchen store. Each one costs $10 and makes two boards. Now I want to get a pair of 511B horns and hear what everybody else is talking about.[] Kudret
  8. The problem is they sound way off and I can't live with that sound for 6 months for the caps to settle in. Is there any other way to burn in the caps outside the amp? What I noticed with my v-capped networks is that they are very transparent. Kudret
  9. I had a similar situation and slightly tightening the laminations solved the problem. It could be as simple as that. Kudret
  10. Thanks, Dee. I am not sure if the caps needed to burn-in for some time, but I don't have that kind of patience. Kudret
  11. Audible Nectar, One has to experience it to believe it. I am closely following your cap rolling experiments with your MC30s and hope to benefit from your findings. Kudret
  12. I taltally agree with John that Type As sound more detailed on simple, acoustic music. Hence they are my favorite among the others (DHA2 and AA). I've never experienced the "dentist drill" part though due to type of amplification I use and type of music I listen to. Kudret
  13. Here are my Type As built with v-caps (one of them): There are more pictures here. They don't seem to add any coloration to the music and they are very detailed. I like these crossovers. I also tried v-caps in my SETH amplifiers as well as Jensens. I did not like either of them. Jensens are too muddy and v-caps are too dry. What a waste of money. I have some GE type PIO caps that really make my SETH amps sing. Who says capacitors don't make any difference? [] Kudret
  14. I have this preamp for sale for $130+shipping. If anyone is interested please let me know. Kudret
  15. I did the cap mod probably a year ago. I had Sovtek 2A3 tubes at the time in the SETH amps. I recently got the SuperTNT 2A3 tubes, but the slight hum was always there. Kudret
  16. speakerfritz, first of all sorry about hijacking your thread. [:$] The old caps were two 680uF 200V. The new ones are four 1000uF 400V (two in parallel on each side). One side has 175.5 V and the other side 183.7V. The inductor??? Do you mean the radial 15uF 630V solen capacitor? I moved it from the front to the back. I had to extend its leads by using 22ga wire. I also used a 0.22uF 630V bypass cap on this one. I will check the solder connections again tomorrow. Voltage on this one is 175V. I copied these mods from the pictures of another modified Cary SLP 70. Tubes on the preamp are 2x6SL7, 2x12AX7 and 2x6SN7 (in the cathode follower). Sorry for the confusion about the 2A3 tubes. My SETH 2A3 amps that I am using with this preamp require two matched 2A3 tubes each. I thought you were inquiring about the output tubes on the amplifiers. Congrats on your Cary SLP 30. I spent a lot of $$$ on tube rolling. I finally found the tubes that I really like with my slp 70: Sylvania 6SN7 (bad boys) and Sylvania vt229 (6SL7). Thes tubes make it very musical yet detailed. What tubes does the SLP 30 use? Kudret
  17. speakerfritz, The output tubes are new Super TNT 2A3C tubes and they are matched. Craig, I was afraid that it wouldn't be that simple. I will remove the added caps and see if hum disappears. Thank you both. Kudret EDIT: I just found a before and after picture:
  18. Jordan, Do you still have the Tele 12AX7s? Kudret
  19. Hi Jeff, Congratulations on your new job, and best of luck to you and your family. When is the move? Kudret
  20. Craig, I beefed up the power supply on my Cary preamp by doubling the caps. I am not sure if there was a hum before but now there is a slight hum that bothers me. I guess I will have to remove them and see if the hum goes away... Kudret
  21. Steve, We have the identical setup (including the plinth). [] I am also looking for a plinth for a long time. Original plinth is difficult to find. Here are some links I bookmarked: http://tw.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/comtw888168/album?.dir=24bb&.src=ph&store=&prodid= http://www.woodhorn.com/td124.htm I am considering to buy a solid wood block 15x22x3.5 and make one myself. Here is what I have in mind: Kudret
  22. I would like to know as well. I've done it several times myself... Kudret
  23. Arthur, I've got Khorns (with Tye As - soon to be recapped with v-caps) and Cornwalls (with stock networks). As for amplification, I have JFL's 8WPC SETH 2A3 amps, stock MC30s and soon to arrive Marantz 8B. I can probably finish the networks, arrange my listening room and invite you over some time around Christmas. BTW, we live probably 15 minutes away (I am in Pointe-Claire). Kudret
  24. Arthur, That's some serious gear. I thought you had them a long time ago. no? Kudret
