Yes, I've tried different cassettes, all act the same. I can see belts and pulleys/gears moving, but its likely the capstan or idler is not being engaaged. I am deciding whether to remove the front or not. I would rather not get in too deep. A previous service did get most of the hardened grease out of the mechanisms which did help. The REW and FF speed seem slow, which also points to the idler.

Idler could have been overlooked in the service. Took a few more years to fail.

Good eye on the Bob Ludwig.  That does make it more collectible, but they both have RL in the deadwax.  Other one is not visible. The comment about the runout being narrower is the key.

I might have one…. I’ll have to check and compare. Thanks!

Posting this for fun.  Who can tell me which of these LZII albumsIMG_2073.jpg.2847d280908de8b2d0f07ea6e086ddf8.jpgIMG_2071.jpg.b146a7ee1277568cdc081feaecd6e4a3.jpg is the high $$ one, and why?

Run out groove is shorter on second one. I can’t see other marks on the disc.

So that is exactly what was happening. I was playing talk radio and noticed on low volume it was fine but the louder it got the more pronounced that issue was. Any recommendations on a reputable place to have it repaired?

Location may help getting a recommendation.  We have a great speaker tech here in Smyrna GA.

    Those are nice looking!

All the internals of his old set are good so I think we will give building new cabinets a try. The worst that can happen is we waste a bit of wood.

It will be a little while before I get around to making them though,  I still need to build a shop building..... so a while lol.

    Alright. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the input and advices.  @MC39693 thank you for the speakers, tho you didn't sell them directly to me but you had kept them in top shape for more than 40 years. Also appreciate the upgrade history info you provided.

I spent sometimes this afternon removing all the drivers and crossover networks from the cabinets.  I wonder if any of you know how the motor board is attached to the box?  I am wanting to remove the moto boards and properly refinish them rather than sending them attached to the box.  I noticed some nail holes (by finishing nail gun) all around the edge of the motor board (see pic).  I am wondering if I can just hammer the motor boards from behind, provided that they are not also glued to the sides and backing.  I am hoping some of you had done that and can advise.

The motorboard are stapled and maybe glued. I’ve never taken one out, but I’ve put one back. It had gotten dislodged by being shipped improperly. A block of wood, a hammer, and some glue. Fixed. You could probably knock them out the same way, but you lose the integrity of the cabinet taking it out. YMMV.

I have had 2 pairs of H1 BR and HII WO and have a pair of 1.5 waiting for me to pick up and they have removable backs.
    These are my HII.

I remember reading something about the HII having either a round or square terminal box.

All 5 of my HII have rectangular terminal cups.
