  1. OK, I am online on MSN messenger all the time, so if you want, I can try and help around 6pm pasific time.
  2. It is a VERY journaling system, unless Justin has "tweaked it" not to be as some amateur websites sugest. Unfortunately, it does not keep track of personal files, only system protected files. Example: if you delete a protected system file, next time you reboot, the file will be restored, as if you have not deleted it. But I do not think that the problem is with the time, nor the disk crashed. Justin, how many user accounts on this computer? If you have a .NET passport, you can ivite me to help you and then I can tell you more about what it might be. My .NET passport ID is vddobrev@hotmail.com, but this must be when I get home in about 4 hours, I am on the west coast.
  3. Well, NTFS is a rather complicated file system, it is miles and miles better than FAT and FAT32. If anyone is interested, I can point you to readings... Justin problem looks to me more like windows is confused, it did some kind of restore and it went kaput. It does not look like a disk crash, because disk crashes don't pick up on your doc files. So, let's try a few things Justin 1) Check the recycle bin -- what's in there? If not useful empty it. 2) Run disk clean up to free some space, delete temp internet files, etc. 3) Log on to windows as Administrator. If you do not remember a password, leave it blank, or type Administrator. Start up System Restore. Restore your system to about two-three days ago. Lets see if this goes thru.
  4. Justin, I might have a few suggestions, I have extensive PC experience, but can you first clarify the following: 1) Did you lose only this document that you have been writing for 6 months, or you lost all your files from 6 months ago? 2) Did you get a message by windows that said something like it restored itself to a previously know good point? 3) In the folder that your document was, enable "show hidden files and folders" from the tools-->folder options menu. If you are lucky, there will be a hidden file with your last saved version of the document, the filename will begin with ~$ and will be named differently depending on the version of word you were using. Do not run any disk management tasks at this point. Vladi
  5. Lets see now. Normally I would not respond to such posts. Doc Holiday, can you be reasonable and tell us which Sony receivers have you listened to? Perhaps you are referring to the piss-poor $200-300 range receivers. Model numbers please.
  6. I use "Analog Direct" when playing CDs thus using the CD player DAC, there is no noise, bearly bearly audible at -10 and above. As compared to when the signal goes thru the receiver processors, then yes, the noise is overcoming the RF at -20dB and above. I've been thinking about this all day ...

    To EARs

EAR, I have always been amazed by the amounts and brands of equipment you have!!! This must be thrilling! Do you have some pictures to drool over ... Vladi
  8. Thanks for the tips, I will try and see if I can isolate the problem. I am puzzled why it only shows at -15, -14, and -13dB, and not at lower or higher amplifications.
  9. I used to have a KSW-12, I replaced it with a RSW-10. The KSW-12 is a good sub, but it is slow. It was very good for watching movies -- lots of shaking, but for music was way slow, especially for dance music -- it couldn't keep up with the rythm. I replaced it with a RSW-10, which is fast and gives even more shakes.
  10. I originally purchased the Quintets, they were OK for movies, bad for music. I replaced them with Synergy SB-2, good for movies, and good for music. But I was not satisfied. Returned them and got the RF-3, great for movies and great for music.
  11. I have discovered last night that I am hearing a radio station thru my speakers when listening to the CD, haven't yet identified what radio station, but it is different than what my built-in-receiver tuner is tuned in. The _strangest_ thing is that it is only audible at certain amplification -- it is heard at -15dB, reduces at -14dB, further reduces at -13dB, inaudible at any other amplification. The CD is on pause. All in all, it is very weak, comparable to -80dB. What can be causing this? I am just curious, although I never listen to that high volumes and I cannot hear it at any other amplification.
  12. Def Leppard rocks my world, even on my RF-3. And they are my doughter's favourite band, she is only 2y 8m old. She likes most "Pour some sugar on me". You should check out their new album named "X". The UK version contains more songs. Vladi
  13. I have Sony STR-DA5ES, a noticable hiss is heard only above -18dB. The max I have listened it is -32dB, and it was so loud it hurt. My usual listening volume is below -50dB, neigbours start banging on walls at -40dB So I don't even worry about hiss at higher volumes, but that's me.
  14. I think he wants to have speakers all over the place in "every" room and bathroom.
  15. Check the Architectural forum for in-wall and outdoor speakers.
  16. On question 1 - I would recommend this Monster Cable http://www.monstercable.com/custom_install/productPageCI.asp?pin=1447&mixtype= On question 5 - I can only tell you that you have to listen to different receivers and see how they sound with your speakers and other equipment. I have Sony STR-DA5ES and I am very pleased wiht it. It has what you want - three-room capabilities and you can choose what source plays for each room. Room one would be the main speakers, surrounds, etc. Room two - amplified output and you can hookup to stereo speakers in another room. It comes with a second remote, so from the second room (you will need an infrared replicator or extension) you can control the volume, source, tune radio, etc. Room three - there is a third output which is not amplified and you can hook it to an amp in a third room. The third room can also be controlled from the 2nd remote. So all in all, this receiver can play three independent sources at the same time.
  17. Can you post a sample in mp3 or wma format?
  18. avman, STR-DA5ES has the port for upgrade too. I will call Sony and see what they say. Vladi
  19. I am a big Star Wars fan too, I want this DVD sooo bad!!! I liked Episode II so much, much more than I. Is Lucas ever going to release episode IV, V, and VI on DVD? I have them on VHS, but currently I don't even have a VHS player.
  20. avman, How/where did you get the software update for the receiver? I have Sony STR-DA5ES and am wondering if there is un update to its software, since it is last year model. Thanks, Vladi
  21. Look at my signature to see my setup. I have the sub dialed to seven clicks from zero, which is at the 9-10 o'clock position. At 12 o'clock the house starts to shake, and I am scared of being evicted. I wouldn't get bigger than RSW10 for RF3, they have plenty of bass by themselves. Vladi
  22. I have a Sony revceiver but I don't use the EQ at all. I would use it only if I had a hearing problem in a specific frequency range and want to compensate for that. Vladi
  23. deang, Thanks for the calming note. Is it true that it is more difficult to measure the PL of lower frequencies, thus the SPL meter could be wrong. Because to me the sub and the fronts sound similar in PL, yet the SPL meter measures the sub about 20db louder. I only have a RSW-10, and I wonder how SVS owners set up their subs, what readings do you measure on the SPL of the sub? Vladi
