  1. Wow! Although I have never yet seen them, many are telling me I need to, and one of these days, I will. Nick, we'll have to hook up for that concert should one happen soon. All this prog talk here, I love it! Genesis, PT.... I have been hanging out on My Space. There have been some good less known bands I have discovered there. any one hear of Helmet of Gnats? I was totally impressed with their music! Also, a new band from the UK called Combination Head... I'll post a few links here, you can listen to each of their samples- the samples which made me order some of these :-) Many of my friends who like PT also like many of these bands, so, here ya go: http://www.myspace.com/helmetofgnats (they blew me away! They have a hybrid CD/SACD) (I need an SACD player!) http://www.myspace.com/combinationheaduk (Good stuff! I bought their CD and LOVE it!) http://www.myspace.com/ladylakemusic (I have both their CD, and like their style) http://www.myspace.com/cashromantic (A very good Polish band with many influences...reminded me of Michal Urbaniak) http://www.myspace.com/adventmusicnet (These boys are very good- lots of Gentle Giant influence) http://www.myspace.com/mikekeneally (This guy is crazy good! He played with Zappa. Nuff said) For jazz lovers, http://www.myspace.com/ronkobayashi Nick, Tom, Wayne, or anyone in the So Cal area, they play on the first Tuesday of every month in Fullerton...maybe we could have a little Klipsch forum contingent visit? You never know who will be sitting in with these guys...awesome musicians! And guys like these have played with them: http://www.myspace.com/joejewell http://www.myspace.com/kenrosser BTW- all this music sounds GREAT on K-Horns! ;-)
  2. Hi guys, What a great cure for tax-time blues! But alas, that's my wife's birthday, and we will be in Laughlin trying to win enough money for future audio purchases!
  3. They were definately awesome! Jacco Pastorius was one of the most amazing bass players!
  4. Hey Arky, Jazz is a big subject, but let me provide a link to a local jazz trio I like to follow around here as these guys are all excellent musicians, and I like their style of jazz. http://www.myspace.com/ronkobayashi carpetcat.com/kobayashi And live, they are the best! Enjoy!
  5. Wow. I pop in here once in a while because I don't have the time I once did. Andy gave some good advice on horn dampening. Unfortunately I missed that thread from a few years ago and am guilty of having just covered my horns with Dynamat and rope caulk. I don't think I'm missing any highs, and I thought I remember liking the tweak after I did it some years ago. The tweaks which worked best for me were replacing the crossovers with ALKs- that was a big improvement to my ears, even though many say the original should sound better. The next (chronologically) best thing was when we moved from my condo into a home. The Khorns are still quite far apart, and I again have a window which prevents a good seal of one of the horns. But overall, there was a marked improvement of sound in the newer, bigger room with a sloped ceiling. Reading this thread has made me curious about the gains I might realize by sealing, but I never felt there was a lack in bass response- though I think I did hear more peaks and valleys in the bass, which may be what a good seal will correct. Now that I've seen the pics, I have a better idea of how to do it. Thanks to all who posted pics!
  6. I've been on the forum for years, but always stuck to the 2 channel. Now I noticed the Com Audio- how cool! Anyone have opinions about using Klipsch as monitors when mixing/recording in the studio?
  7. Hi All! I have not dropped off the face of the planet, but I have been working more on music, so that left me no time to hang out at my favorite forums! I also had a password problem (lots of changes here!), but I am back now. If you want to see and hear what I have been up to, visit my myspaciness page at www.myspace.com/andykubicki . When you drop in, feel free to have a beer and enjoy the sounds....
  8. Hey Larry, As one who had a similar combo to yours (Crown + horns) I can tell you that just about everything mentioned thus far will sound better. The Juicy Music Peach and the VRD amps sounded terrific when I had a little gettogether at my place with some fellow music lovers from the forum some time ago. That IC 150 is a bit noisy as well. Right now I am powered by a Scott integrated and am happy with it, so I am sure you'll be happy with the mentioned upgrades as well...
  9. I know, I check in once in a while. How are you doing, Jim? We will have another get together after the holidays. Ya'll gotta hear this room!
  10. Yup! I tweaked my KHorns with rope caulk, padding and replaced wiring. The biggest difference was apparent when I upgraded to ALKs. I have been tempted by Bruce Edgar to open up the throat on the bass driver and change the driver...I might someday take him up on that...
  11. I gotta say Wayne is right! I tried brushes and nothing works like total immersion which Spin Clean offers. It really surprised me! AND, I use the lint free towels you turned me on to!
  12. My God, I stay away for a while again and come back to find the list missing a great person! I hope I'm not too late with my contribution...
  13. Hi Max & All! This is a really good thread! I had similar experiences. What's interesting is that I remember dreaming a piece of a concert where a line was played by french horns. I had that dream when I was a wee lad, and before I had my early piano lessons. Somehow, I remembered just a short musical phrase, and maybe this will compel me to write something around that, though I have never written classical music. I have music playing in my head almost non-stop. Things I have heard and liked, and sometimes some self composed things pop in. Like Craig, if I don't work on what I hear in my brain right away, it's gone! What's kinda weird (in a good way) is that this just happens sometimes-without effort. When I'm trying to write something, forget it...it can be like pulling teeth at times, and other times it flows. What I need is a mind studio, where I can record and master these ideas LOL! Gil, I'm not sure if music can induce a dream with me. Once (or twice?), when in an artificially induced state (ahem!), I could say that some music produced visions. I just had a different experience with music- music conveying some concepts. I wrote a piece of music which has evolved over years, yet I was not really satisfied with it. Once I was, I asked a friend to collaborate with me and play a bass part to what I wrote and played on the synth. He actually got really into this and re-wrote the whole thing and played better than I, so we kept his version. What was not expected, was that he would pick up on the non-musical concepts that I had for the piece, even though we did not talk about these concepts. That was not something I could have done had I tried, yet it just happened. Now I'm not sure if anyone else would hear it and pick up on the concepts, but I think it's beyond the normal every day experience for even the two of us to have experienced that. (Twilight Zone music plays in the bacground now... [[]
  14. Thanks guys! Wayne, Tom, I think I'll plan another mandatory get together some time in February. Stay tuned! Now I just gotta get these boxes out of the way. Hey, maybe we could do an A/B with ________ [H] Edwin, you are correct! They sound like they belong here!
  15. Wow! What a find! Persistence pays, eventually. I'll bet you'll love that 299 B driving the KHorns. I'm driving mine with a 222D and I love every sound wave that that combo gives me! Congrats! 1978 was a good year, eh? Now all ya need is a set of ALKs []
  16. Congrats Craig! No wonder you sound so busy! []
  17. Hi Tom! Thanks! Not just a new home but a few other projects as well as life in genenral []
  18. LOL! Your recovery was quicker than I thought it would be! And I thought this was going to be a Yes post []
  19. Hi Craig! Watch out or you too will become addicted to prog! You will never again want to play 4/4, unless it is followed by 3/4 (alternating one bar of each).
  20. Holdsworth enhanced most musicians he played with. Jean Luc Ponte never sounded better than when playing with Holdsworth. UK was at its best with Alan- he's an amazing musician! Those interviews are available on his DVDs and on the Winterfold and Summerfold series.I think if you buy one, it has samples of the other. What's also amazing about Bruf in addition to his playing, is his writing. In his Yes days, Jon Anderson would encourage Bill to write parts. Now look back at all his material and you can see what an inceridible talent he has for composing. I was lucky to catch Earthworks when they did a 45 minute set at Guitar Center's Drum off some years ago. The place was full of kids for the drum off. When Earthworks came on and they saw no guitars, the place thinned out. Too bad for the band, but it allowed me to go right up to the stage and watch gods at work up close! What a treat!
  21. Welcome back. Congratulations on achieving the absolute most important upgrade to the Klipschorn--adequate breathing room. Thanks! Unfortunately, that can be the costliest upgrade too! Guys, we'll do something here, maybe after the holidays if yer all game!
  22. Hey James, Sorry to hear this. Keep working at it...you will eventually get to where you want to be. Your love for music will give you the guidance and inspiration.
  23. Thanks guys! Yes, we actually did it to take in my aging father. But this house is so great! I did not expect the living room to be that much better...it's like super bass! And my KHorns are not even sealed yet! I will have to have another get-together with you guys who came out to my last one, you need to hear this! Craig, I'll get with you soon, I need to get that 233 (was it a 233? my memory for details is less than desirable) to you.
