  1. When I think of the word squawker, I think of a friends tropical bird. Squaaaaawk.
  2. Welcome to the forum. There is alot of knowledge you can gain here. I'll put my 1 cent in here. Don't worry about the finish for the time being Listen for awhile and determine what you like and don't like about the speakers. Those speakers have alot of potential There are many options to improve the sound, some inexpensive some expensive. Wrapping the cast aluminum mid-range horn with automotive sound proofing is the least expensive upgrade. Replacing the Caps on your crossovers is not expensive Upgrading the K77 tweeter to a DE-120 drivered tweeter. Replacing cast mid horn with wood horn and 2" driver Replacing Crossovers, several options available. Room Treatments Is your current amplifier a good match for the speakers? Older Kiipsch speakers used to use Monster cable which can corrode after some years. You can buy a 50' roll of 14ga OFC speaker wire on Amazon fairly cheap. A new pair of Lascalas are around $12,000. 2 is not bad. Ask alot of questions, I did. Rick
  3. I have a pair of Crites A/4500HZ crossovers for sale that I purchased earlier in the year to replace the original Klipsch crossovers in my Khorns. I believe these will also work with the Belle and Lascala speakers but you should check to make sure. These crossovers will not work with the K77 tweeter. I recommend using DE-120 drivers with DaveA's tweeter lenses. I am asking $280. Sorry about the train wreck in the coffee table. Casey came around the bend too fast.
  4. I am in the process of modding my '87 Khorns, I installed Greg's V-Trac mid-range horns, DaveA's SMAHL v2 tweeter lenses w/ DE-120 drivers. Waiting on BMS 4592s and ALK ES crossovers. I ordered the V-TracII with the motorboard cut for Beyma CP25s. I added a 1/4" piece of plywood to the motorboard cut to fit the SMAHLs. All I need to do is rotate the adapters 45 degrees to mount the tweeters vertically. I'll have to give it a try and see what the result is.
  5. Would love to have those, but I've spent my audio budget for the year. You are a 2 hour drive from me. Good price for those.
  6. Great roads for motorcycling. Not many tornados over here by Lake Lanier but I have a house with a basement just in case. Alabama seems to get hammered though. Originally from mid-west and I've had a more than a few close calls. Came home from work one day to find houses across the street destroyed. Same storm killed thirteen people in an apartment complex about 10 miles away. Thought that the meth production moved south of the border after pseudoephedrin was restricted. The meth addicts are everywhere. They are 30 looking like 90 year olds.
  7. Only 20K? I'm sure the dealer cuts the price once you commit. 7% tax here. They gave me $700 off on my McIntosh including delivery and set up.
  8. I Jubes are above my payscale. I'm gonna stick with my horns. First I've heard of Xillica active crossovers, something more to read about. What have you done for room treatments? I have my system set up in the living room with hardwood floors and an 18' ceiling. My chair is 15' from the front of the speakers and the speakers are about 13' feet apart on center. The house is an open plan with the left side open to the kitchen and the wall ends 4' from the side of the speaker. The right speaker is up against a 24' wall. This is interesting because some high frequency sound coming from the left speaker is reflecting off of the right wall and sounds as though it's coming from behind me. Behind my chair is a stairway and I notice that the sound is better when my ears are about 4' above the speakers. I'm open to any suggestions.
  9. My Khorns have DE-120 drivers and Dave A's lenses. The high end is awesome. My corners are not perfect because each corner has adjacent windows, but the low end is still great, maybe the windows help. I am patiently waiting for new extreme slope xovers. I have replaced the cast mid horn with the wood V-Trac from Volti. That was a good improvement but the K55s gotta go. The new Jubes are $20K + if they have been released, My Khorns cost me $2k new back in 1987.(I had a friend who was an audio dealer) Now they start around $16K
  10. I didn't understand the last sentence. I think my Khorns sound pretty good but they do have their weakness. Hopefully Al's Exreme Slope xovers and BMS drivers will fill in the gaps. My RME Dac does an excellent job in minimizing the damage caused by the K55 mid-range drivers. I was thinking about taking a drive to a dealer thats about an hour away, but then I had second thoughts. Everything sounds good until you hear something better.
  11. Might be a good time to have a yard sale. We had forest fires in the east about 5 or six years ago, North Georga, North Carolina and Eastern Tennesee. The fire never got close to my house but the smoke was so bad I was getting ready to leave. It was like a dense fog. Fortunately the winds shifted over night and brought fresh air in from the gulf.
  12. I have never heard the Jubilees so I am curious how they compare to the Khorns as they come from the dealer.
  13. I agree. I installed the Crites kit on my Khorns and they definately sound better than ever. However I am not stopping there. I ordered a crossover from Al.
  14. There is a product called grip liner, lightweight, cheap and easy to cut with scissors. Color is brown. I used it under my extension ladder when painting the walls in my living room so the ladder doesn't slip on the hardwood floors. I've got pictures on top of my Khorns and even Pink Floyd can't knock them down.
  15. He wasn't bitter, just a biter, if you played an album he didn't like.
  16. Can you give me a cut of that commission? I started this thread! I ride my motorcycle up around the Chattanooga area occasionally, maybe when the weather cools a bit I might stop by Rossville and see if WE has a demo system set up.
  17. What about the medical staff and the people they leave behind? Is it fair to them? The hospital beds they occupy could be put to better use. I've read that some hospitals are considering turning away the unvaccinated. They should.
  18. Over 90% of people hospitalized are unvaccinated. Almost all ICU beds are taken by unvaccinated. The shot is not a symptom reducer, it's purpose is to cause your body to produce antibodies against covid. It is true that you can still catch covid after being vaccinated but you chances of hospitalization or death are almost nil. The main side effect I got from the vaccine is peace of mind.
  19. There may not be years from now if you don't get vaccinated. Think of the harm you might do to others if you are asymptomatic.
