  1. Matching preamp and amp combos tend (not always) to use most of the range of volume control. The beautiful volume control on the Halo gear gets to normal listening levels at 50%. Loud at 70-75. And ear bleeding at 85+
  2. Middle of the road AQ speaker/interconnect cables and top end AQ power cables work best for me.
  3. Completely disagree Used same preamps/sources with different amps and the sound dramatically changed.
  4. Fun is the most important. For sure. I would strongly recommend running REW with the new setup to make sure the top and bottom sections are equally resistant. I found this out after running exactly the same amps on HF and LF only to find that LF was about 5ohms and HF was about 3.5. Which of course threw off my balance of range. not saying that’s the case, but even if you have exactly the same amps, measure and see if your missing anything.
  5. Primaluna, McIntosh, Rogue Audio, Carver, but I have not had ears (except for Axpona) on SET amps for long periods. but the distortion to me probably sounds perfect to others. tubes have a liquid-y type sound that I’m not fond of. But many are. different strokes
  6. Agree completely with Kalifornian, you really need to listen to different types. Example, tubes are not for me, the distortion (naturally inherent in tubes) is not something I’m a fan of. But a quality A class SS is right up my alley. but the only way I know this is because I have owned and listened to many amps over the years. but yeah, going from your AVR to specific 2ch gear (integrated or separates) will net you huge gains. good luck bro!
  7. Going from $$4k worth of Class D Ps Audio monoblocks and pre to Parasound A/AB pre/amp combo was so pleasing. the warmth I gained and the emotion was palatable. So much detail in lower level listening but yet so much raw power for dynamic listening. the PSA combo was very accurate and linear while the latter made my toes tap and kept me coming back for more all the time. Which is what we chase.
  8. Ah. Silly me. Thank You for correcting me. Was wondering why they are so light.
  9. I have heard the Benchmark Amp and it is one of the quietest most solid amps for the money. Me personally just couldn’t get my head wrapped around two things. The size/weight of it. And the class D (for me personally) as I feel like class D was a little to clinical for my Tastes. But have buddies who swear by them, especially used as monoblocks. but I’m very happy with the A/AB Parasound A21+ that I bought when I traded in my PS Audio class D monoblocks.
  10. Here is mine: dedicated 20amp Audioquest Hurricane into Niagara 5000 Parasound P6 with HT bypass feeding P A21+ into AQ Castlerock into Cornwall IV’s Marantz SR5013 feeding Def Tech CLR center and RC II’s surrounds SVS SB16 Ultra. All AQ wiring and pc’s Sony XBR 900E 75” BDI furniture.
  11. I too have the Parasound A21+ with the first 5-6w in pure class A. the sound is rich and warm and I do not miss my tube amp at all. Any level listening. Either barely audible or or ears bleeding, this combo (CW IV’s) is stunning. All types of music. I did keep my sub in the mix as I do like to feel bass below 30hz which I don’t think any Heritage speaker registers properly (correct me if I’m wrong) but very happy SS user here.
  12. I too started my journey with less expensive value amps and AVR’s. I can tell you that nothing opened my system up more than ditching the AVR as a pre and getting a high quality integrated or pre/amp combo. I started with older Linn amps (coming from NAD and Denon) and what a jump. them onto PS Audio D class. now I have Parasound Halo (new “+” gear) and it’s light years ahead of where I started. those CW IV’s need clean clear power and a great source to open up. just my 2c
  13. Had these on my last speakers. Don’t really work with the Cornwall’s made a nice difference with the Elacs and gave them more mid bass umph. Very mint paypal F&F only- check our Polk forum with same username for my sales and rep. $350 shipped - firm lower 48 only.
  14. Good to see you bro. Obviously same JC here. Didn’t we meet at Axpona 2019? or am I thinking of someone else?
