  1. Since I got nothing to say either I figured I might as well get into this too! 8^) Al K.
  2. Ken, Thanks for the good words! Why don't you post a picture of one of them. I'd like to see it. Al K. This message has been edited by Al Klappenberger on 07-19-2001 at 11:16 AM
  3. Mark, I did a side-by-side comparison between my fathers Marantz 10B and a Mac MR71 when I got out of the Air-Force. The Marantz was more sensitive on weak stations. The best thing about the MR71 was the "IF injected muting". It works so well that there was just no noise. It was fast and linear. It would fade in slowly as a signal went down into the noise. I wish the MR78 had that! Anyhow, I kept my Fathers Marantz when he died and sold the MR71. Al K.
  4. Charles, I have a McIntosh MR78 tuner. It has switchable selectivity between 3 bandwidths. The widest is good only for local stuff. Most anyhting else will not triger the stereo circuits unless you are on the middle width position. The MR77 ONLY HAS THE WIDEST bandwidth of the 78. I wouldn't touch that one with a 10 foot pole! If you notice, you don't see MR77s very often. I bet they didn't sell many of them. I would ask somebody at Audio Classics about that and see if they agree though. I think your are ok with the MR74. I recomend the 78 except for the reed-relay muting circuit. I never use it. It's slow and often can't make up it's mind on a week signal. Its poping on and off will drive you nuts! AL K.
  5. Hi Guys, The Cornwall network download has been updated to include information about adapting it to the Heresy. It's just a matter of moving the transformer taps from 3 and 4 down to 2 and 3. Also the 5.6 Ohm swamping resistor across the transformer become 4.7 Ohms. Speed, My wifes maden name was "Seward"!! Big deal? 8^) AL K.
  6. J, OK.. I can at least include the information on how adapt the Cornwall network to the Heresy in the download. I will update it as soo as I can. Please be aware that it has NEVER been tested in a Heresy! Build it at your own risk! 8^) AL K. This message has been edited by Al Klappenberger on 07-03-2001 at 08:45 PM
  7. Charles, I would think a Heresy of the same vintage wouldmake a good center speaker. I think it should be a Heresy II between Cornwall II or Heresy I between Cornwall I though. That will ensure similar high frequency drivers for compatibility. My network would only work with the older designs though. The ones having K77 tweeters. AL K.
  8. Hi guys, I have heard for a source I trust that a thin sheet of steel will do also. You could have one cut and bent to you requirements by any heating or air conditioning contractor from steel duct meterial. I would like to know how well this actually works if anybody tries it. Al K.
  9. Hi Guys After doing some computer analysis on my Cornwall crossover network design I have concluded that it should work for the original Heresy as well. That's the version using the K77 tweeter. All that would be necessary is to change the taps on the transformer and the value of 1 resistor. I have hesitated to offer this as a product because it seemed that my price for a set would be to large in proportion to the price of the Heresys. I also do not have a sample Heresy to test it with. I would be interested to hear what Heresy owners think about this. I could simply add information to my downloadable design for the Cornwall network about how to modify it for the Heresy for anyone who might want to "roll" his own. I could also offer it as a product to the Heresy owners who don't care about the price but just don't have the room for Klipshorns! Any comments from Heresy owners would be appreciated! Al K.
  10. Brandon, First off, to spite my continuous persuit of engineering stuff, I am NOT a BSEE. I am the product of experience and experimentation. If there is any single thing that I wish I had none and didn't do it's persue higher mathematics! It's a tool that applies to every engineering area. Learn it, parctice it and MASTER it! It's my weakest area and I suffer for it! I am just no good at it. P.S. -- And my spelling is pretty bad too! 8^) Al K.
  11. He needs to sell each piece seperately. I don't think too my people would want all that stuff at one time! AL K.
  12. Frans, The "M" tweeter was modified slightly in addition to the magnet change. I don't know the details. Al K.
  13. Blorry, Here goes 667: How about a recording of a helicopter landing. At full power, I had my step-daughter running all over the second floor look up out of each window looking for it! That was FUN! Al K.
  14. Stormin, Yep, you got it.. I have to have a set to modify them. There's a lot of important details involved, like where to drill the mounting holes! 8^) Al K.
  15. Hi guys.. Well, since you called my name.. As in "speak of the devil".. I like everything but the speakers! Al K.
  16. Fred, That "M" didn't seem to mind your extreme abuse becasue it's fine and the curves look exactly like the "V" driver. That settles the question of "M" versus "V" in my mind. The two are virtually identical! I just want them to "look" like a set so I can put them on eBay! Al K.
  17. Tony, Don't dump your K77M for an alnico version. The "M" is the better tweeter. AL K.
  18. Drob1, Yes, I tried to remove the transformer. It went back in pretty fast! The transformer IS the better way. It provides damping to the driver back from the amp. A resistor pad isolates the driver and allows it to do it's own thing. The result is a better response WITH the transformer. Al K.
  19. Hey Chris! Wanna swap that Belle for a Cornwall? I was thinking about bidding on it myself! It was close enought to me that I could have picked it up. Al K.
  20. Jim, I don't think so. I tried to set the levels to the squawker and tweeter exactly as Klipsch had them set. AL K.
  21. Hi Guys I have a couple of genuine Klipsch K55 squawker drivers here that I would like to get matched into a set. I have one virtually new K55-M and one used but good K55V. The "V" is the newer type having the improved phase plug. These can be identified by the solder connections rather then the push-on connections of the older type. I have run frequency response curves on both and they are both in good shape. I would like to make an even-up swap with somebody who has a single one of one type or the other to make up a matched pair. So.. anybody who has an "M" and wants a "V", or a solder-on connection "V" and wants an "M", let me know! I put a picture of both of them on my web page: http://www.web-span.com/alk/DSCN0600.JPG Al K.
  22. Fred, I would very much like to know what difference you hear between a single cable and bi-wire connection. Al K.
  23. John, Next time you get to Maryland, drop in and bring your favorite CDs. Well jave a jam session! Have you seen a curve of the La Scala woofer? I just assumed it was the same as the Belle. AL K.
