  1. Have you ever noticed that some people's pictures take forever to download, if you are using a dial- up? Also have you seen pictures that are so huge that you are forced to scroll all around to see them. A couple tips 1.) Use JPEG images not Bitmap 2.) Size your Picture to 640 x 480 pixels or smaller. If you don't know how to do this, just ask and some kind soul will help
  2. You know what they say about boats. - There is only two happy days..................

I'm making a mental note for the "next house" *************************************************************** Chris, This is a 3 piece slate - But it is a called a 'Pro 8' - 8 1/2 feet. And I did not have proper corners for the Khorns so I opted for the Belles instead.
  4. Here is a side view of my Moondogs, AVA T7 Pre-amp and AVA Transcendence DAC.
  5. OK - You've protected your tweeters. Are you at all concerned with your ears ? (Most expensive audio gear you own - Priceless!) I drive my Belles with 3.25 watt per channel Moondogs, and I cannot bear to turn the Volume past halfway. I am sure the sound tends to distort from Vibrations on your source at that level.

Why is Japaneese equipment considered "Jap", but Russian equipment "Russian". I'm sorry, but it smacks of typical, ugly, WASP verbage left over from WWII propaganda,(aka "racism"). Let's please join the modern world and start showing respect for others who are not WASP, and as far as I'm concerned, you can both continue to piss all over each other. Klipsch out. ---------------- Jazman, I am also guilty of calling gear Jap - But it is not derogatory in the least. I think the Japanese build the best cars in the world. I'm not sure about audio gear. But I think the main reason for calling stuff 'Jap' is that it is very difficult to spell Japanese. Check out your own post! - Sometimes people are bigots, sometimes they are just bad spellers. - We all need to lighten up!
  7. Hi, I would recommend the AVA Trancendence Seven. It has tone controls that can be engaged or taken out of the circuit with a push of a button. This pre-amp has put many more expensive pre-amps to shame. I am currently drive a Hybrid Tube amp and a piar of SET Monoblocks with it. Also they have a home trial period of 30 days. You can't go wrong here. Here is the link to their website. www.avahifi.com
  8. Tony, Actually I have not thought about rolling Rectifiers yet. What I was trying to accomplish was to get my Moondogs as close to the "last Dogs" being offered on the Welborne site. In case you had not seen these - They go for a mere $7500 and according to Ron Welborne were endowed with the best parts Money could buy. Mine currently have the exact same tubes, with the exception of the Power Tube - The last Dogs had the 300b version of the TJ Meshplates, but they were made before the 2A3 TJ mesh came out. They are still available, if someone here wants to part with $7500. I'll bet he'd take 7 Grand Even! Thanks Guy, Chris, Jazzman. And Chris that is Granite Inlays they are sitting on. 9. Dee, Erik did a good job explaining the Hum issue that I had on my Moondogs. I would like to add that the Builder of my amps probably did not forget to add the Rectifier circuit, but actually did this on purpose. I have heard that applying A/C to the heaters of these tubes, may make the amp quicker and give better dynamics. - And maybe, if he was using less sensitive speakers, the hum did not bother him as much as me. There are people here on this forum that have done some very different things with their Moondogs - And none of them should be considered a problem - just a Modification. As far as my 300b vs. 2a3 - I can only guess here. I have heard that the lower you go in wattage in SET - the more pure the SET midrange (or something like that) - 300b > 2a3 > 45. There are a lot of SET folks that are in love with 45 - with only about 1.5 watts. At first I thought that since I had very Sensitive speakers 104db Belles that they were better matched to the 2a3 than the 300b. But then I hookedup the moondogs to some 89db monitors and I also preferred the 2a3's to the 300b's. Whatever I'm giving up in terms of power, I am making up for in more transparent midrange - Which is where most of the magic is for me. Anyway this is a very subjective topic, and you have to make up your own mind. Erik, The TJ Meshplates in my opinion are a step up from the KR's. The amps seem to be quicker and more dynamic and transparent. In the looks department - there is no contest - The glowing TJ meshplates are much sexier than the KR's. Strange thing I just noticed Erik, We both registered for this Klipsch Fourm on 10/9/02 - We'll have to celebrate on 10/9/03
  10. I have finally got my Moondogs that I purchased last month working the way I want them to. With the help of Erik Mandaville, we quieted a hum that they had. I also got some of the new TJ meshplate 2A3's and RCA Red Base 5692's. I really like the look of the burled walnut bases, and as far as sound they are a big step up from my 300b's. It may be that the 2A3 tube is better suited for the Klipsch Belles. Anyway, I thought I'd share a picture of these Moondogs.
  11. Buy it now price is $900. I'd buy in a Flash if I room for them! My guess is they'll be gone by morning. If you were looking for a great condition Cornwall these look to be the ticket. Walnut Veneer - Very Nice! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3027977317&category=32861
  12. AL, Thanks for the info! Someday I'm gonna understand what you said! I swear! As far as inductors go. I have the Solen Hepa-Litz 14 gauge on the woofer - 2.5mh variety. Is this what you'd recommend? Randy, Congrats on the Pre-amp purchase! I'll let you know how the crossover sounds in May of 2023.
  13. OK DeanG, "I think most would agree not to use a Solen in a critical part of the signal path." Tell me what is the critical part of the signal path in my Type 'A' crossover? And please recommend a Capacitor where I will hear a HUGE difference over the Solens and the Vintage Oils. I'll build them! and we'll see. BTW - What caps do your speakers have in them?
  14. AL, Yes, thought of this and I set up a test to switch Crossovers on speakers, as the crossovers are external. Can do it real fast with banana plugs. Still I can't say I hear a difference. It may take a Golden eared Audiophile to hear it. Nova, Yup, just bought these and they clearly say 'No PCBs' Dean, I never said better, I said different. Solens are used by some Manufacturers that I highly regard.
  15. Tony, Yes I set the Pre-amp to Mono. Actually tried it both ways. I have only built a prototype. I won't be finished with the final product for a couple weeks. Final Product will be on Zebrawood wiped with tung oil with Cardas Binding posts. (I know I have too much time on my hands. I will post a picture when I'm finished
  16. I just finished building a Type 'A' crossover. This type 'A' had all oil caps. I got some Motor Caps that were brand new(I was told not to use these motor caps and when I asked why - I never got a more scientific answer than "they were not made for audio"). Anyway I do lots of stuff I'm not supposed to do. I hooked a 10uf and 3uf in parallel and used a 2uf for the tweeter cap. So I sat down and listened to my Belles, with one crossover on one and the other had Solen Caps for both the 13uf and 2uf. I moved the balance control back and forth from the Oil Cap Type 'A' to the Solen Type 'A'. Guess what? I can't say that I heard a difference at all. I was expecting something like an Amp change with all of the heated debates on caps on this forum. I was a little surprised that the Motor Caps worked at all. ( I guess the Belles didn't know the caps were made for starting motors). They do look cool on the crossover board, though
  17. **************************************************************** And I won't even tell his sacrilegious secret to anyone on this board without a little stool pidgeon money exchanging hands first. ***************************************************************** Oh Oh ! now you've got me worried. - There goes my Supreme Court Nomination.
  18. Tony, Why don't you compile a list of tube numbers and post them on this thread. If they're good for audio you'll get a few bites. I may be one of them
  19. Your very welcome Erik, but it was a very small effort compared to the help you gave me quieting down my Moondogs! I learned a lot from you - especially how well the desolder braid works - I had this tool with a suction bulb on it, but it never really did the job like the braid does!
  20. I think AL has a money back guarantee, so you can order from him and get a refund if you want to return them.
  21. Too Late! - Someone bagged them. - It took less than a day! In case anyone is looking for a pair of Wright 2a3 MonoBlocks here is link to some that just came up on Audiogon. They won't last over 2 days at $950 - Highly regarded! http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?ampstube&1058720798&2&3&4&
  22. In case anyone missed this (It was buried in a previous post). The Laurels are supposed to be brand new. There is always a few folks looking for these amps. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3025010580&category=39783
  23. Thanks RB, I really appreciate the Moondog Manual you sent me! It will help me when testing voltages and wiring.
  24. Erik Mandaville spent most of this weekend corresponding with me via e-mail and this forum to correct a hum problem that I had with my Moondogs. Erik correctly identified that I had a missing Recifier Circuit. This was applying AC to heaters of the 6SN7 tubes causing more hum than if it was DC. Erik also recommended a few other important mods such as re-routing the RCA input wires to a better ground (as well as scraping the enamel off of the chassis for a better connection) and the connection of the coax of these inputs directly to the tube pins. My Moondogs are now much quieter and singing beautifully. Thanks to Erik for all of his unselfish help.
  25. OK - I'm going to chime in here and offer my opinion. I've never heard the newer Klipsch Speakers and they may sound grand - But IMHO they are ugly! - I like the Vintage look of the Belles and Khorn. The current tower look is everywhere, boring, and Ugly.
