  1. Jhoff80- Average pair in good/excellent working condition will fetch MSRP-$750/pair, no problem. Good/Excellent condition means no visible scratches, dents, dings and works fine......I've sold 3 pair to BB members around $800/pair. These speakers have been gobbled up and now on the endangered species list (very hard to find, if not impossible). These speakers are excellent and the closest match to the Legend line which is now discontinued. I would be very interested in trading a pair of these for KLF-10's, 20's or 30's or a KLF-C7 or a Paradigm 2200 sub or of course an SVS would be my preferred sub. Anybody interested???? ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Audioquest interconnects Niles SPS-4 speaker switch box Niles wall plates Niles in-wall volume controls Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" TV Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Panamax DBS-8 Surge Protector Klipsch IC-525's in Master Bath 13" Sony Wega in Master Bath 1 Lava Lamp for Ambience Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam
  2. Jonvan and any other KSP-S6 hunters....Please send me a private message or email me at BLOOMIS914@aol.com. I currently have one pair due next week and will have a second pair within 2 weeks. 3. 3 Words......Scott's Liquid Gold Now for the long-winded version: The best furniture/speaker polish known to man. Talk to wood experts and they are not fans of Pledge due to it actually drying out the wood over time...I think it's due to the alcohol content. 4. Prana-Bindu---You are right on. People should rip their dealers a new one if they don't set up and offer adequate demo's for their customers. Fortunately we have two higher end chain stores in Metro-Detroit, that, IMO, do a fantastic job of offering demo's of all new and current stuff. The Indy situation is simply unacceptable. Klipsch sales reps should be held partially responsible for how their product is displayed in each store. Just as the Pepsi and Coke guys make sure their displays are PERFECT everyday at every store. Great product plus poor marketing will rely heavily on the current loyal Klipsch audience and will rarely bring new customers. Whereas, poor product plus great marketing will bring the masses.... dare I say BOSE!!!!!!! 8. Dr Pyro----Couldn't have said it better but I was trying to keep it simple considering so far off topic. I too would not want to try to put a match out in any type of higher octane fuel for fear of the obvious... I have to believe that the higher the octane the higher the Vapor pressure (VOC's). Which is to say that the fuel will evapoarte or try to change from a liquid to a gas much faster. 9. I own the Quintets also and I cut small holes in the 4 sat. locations and then mounted the Five way binding post wall plates. You can pay a premium and buy Niles or you can use the Radio Shack ones and no one will ever no the diff. and you'll save a few $$.. 12. What would a fair price be for a pair of Chorus II's in excellent condition? I have the opportunity to pick up a pair from a friend and he say's they retailed/MSRP'd around $1,800. These speakers look and sound great and the owner will not part with them for less than $1,000. Is $1,000 too much for these? 14. Keith- being in the auto biz here in Detroit..I must ask for clarification.....don't you mean the higher octane fuels burn HOTTER than lower octane fuels, which CAN result in engine damage??? I do have a high performance street bike (Crotch-rocketis-maximus) and have found this is absolutely true---the hard way. Want to make a stock motor melt down? run 104+ octane boost and run the Pi-- out of it for a few days....Internal temperatures will rise, potentially causing meltdowns. I always use the common(?) knowledge of running a tank or two of Super unleaded (93 or 94 octane) to eliminate spark knock which is a result of cheaper, lower octane, cooler burning fuels. Cooler burning fuels yield more carbon deposits. higher octane fuel up to 94 will not hurt standard motors, in fact, I firmly believe they will increase performance, keep fuel injectors cleaner and definitely prevent knocking in older vehicles. Sorry I digress but this one needs help since everyone buys gas/fuel at the pump. 16. VJ-Welcome to the Klipsch/Marantz SR8000 Fan Club!!! I agree with AudioFlynn and TalktoKeith (Right on!!) Depending on where your emphasis is I would invest money for cables accordingly. For instance, good quality speaker cable and then depending on listening habits; 2ch purist or HT Boomer via DVD's, spend a little more for your S-Video/Component video cables or interconnects for your CD player. I personally use both Monster cable for speaker cable and subs but use Audioquest/Videoquest cables for DVD and CD player hook ups. Just remember Keith's rule: your paying AND listening, so buy what you feel is a good VALUE. I personally would never run regular unleaded in my Porsche 911 Carerra (if I had one) only the best high octane drinks would do. Just as you should not run your Klipsch/Marantz with Home Depot or radio shack 22 gauge lamp cord. Get ready to duck, because this thread is now probably going to take off. 20. Davec- Wow, you are building a great system with 4 KLF-20's!!!. RE: Question 1. Placement of KLF-20's as rears, I THINK, should now be further behind the listening position sweet spot and my feelings would be to "mirror" the front KLF-20's as far as toe-in angle and distance from listener if possible. The Legends and all Klipsch speakers have a very wide sweet spot due to the 90 degree tweeter and mid horns. Again Legends will sound best if located at least 18" from any wall or corner. Also make sure you use the floor spikes to improve bass response (they will come with the speakers). #2 Bi-wireable means the speakers accept TWO sets of speaker wires from your receiver or Amplifier(s). The thought here is it allows the signal to be split at the speaker into high and low frequencies and then sent to the proper driver(s). Bi-wiring is a controversial topic and its benefits have been debated, while most agree it will improve sound. Bi-Amping on the other hand is unanimously agreed as the ideal solution for noticable sound improvement (2 amps driving two speakers) As far as speaker wire from Radio Shack I would not use 16 gauge wire at all in your system. I would use minimum 14 gauge. Monster Cable is a little bit more but how much are you spending on speakers??!! Cheap speakers buy cheap wire, performance speakers (Klipsch) buy at least a middle of the road wire. Klipsch just agreed/partnered to use Monster Cable in all of their speakers. 3. As far as sub-cables go this is an area that many believe Monster definitely makes a better cable. I personally agree here. Make sure you use the y-splitter if you buy the Monster Sub cable it will increase output of your KSW-12 by 6db. Let us know what you decide and maybe you can post a photo of the room or give us room dimensions and I am sure people will have plenty of suggestions on placement quickly for you. My thought is that the investment you are making will last you 20 years or more or at least until you get bitten by the upgrade bug, so why not do it right. Compare the the total cost of all your cables (assuming same gauge) at Radio Shack and with Monster Cable and then decide if it's worth the extra cash......My $.02, hope this helps. ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles SPS-4 speaker switch box Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" TV Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Klipsch IC-525's in Master Bath 13" Sony Wega in Master Bath Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam
  21. Davec- May I suggest using Monster Cable CL3 (In-Wall fire rated) for all of your speaker runs. Your mains (KLF-20's) are Bi-wireable and I would definitely use this feature as it can not hurt. You will need to ask for either 14/4 or 12/4 (14 gauge/4 conductor or 12 gauge/4 conductor). Smaller gauge =Bigger wire. I use Monster 14/4 for my KLF-30's and my entire system and I am extremely happy. Good cables at a affordable price. You will need to determine wire runs for your mains and leave yourself 5-6 feet extra at each end at least )I used 10 feet extra because my Receiver is approximately 6 feet from the floor in Ent. Center. Use 14/2 or 12/2 for your KLF-C7 and your RS-3's. Depending on your receivers bass management, you may want to run a 14/4 wire to your sub location in addition to your coax cable for LFE to allow for both Line level and speaker level inputs on sub. Some receivers will not send sub out signal unless listening to 5.1 material. Ideal location for RS-3's will be on side walls about 5-6 feet from the floor. the important part will be location front to back Monster CL3 14/4 should run about $0.65/ft. if you buy in bulk over 100 ft. I would also consider buying the Niles wall speaker plates that have five way binding posts. You can buy Niles or Radio Shack carries the exact replica and you CAN NOT tell the difference and you'll save quite a few bucks. These wall plates will give your system that professional look and the posts are gold colored knurled material with red and black bands on them they also accept banana posts. P.S. Are RS-3's bi-wireable?? Any other questions? 24. I guess this article is the cornerstone of philosophy for a company like M&K (Miller & Kriessel). They are famous for five matched satelittes and pretty decent subs. Very informative response by Brian Florian, however, this assumes we all have access (read CASH) to SVS, Hsu Research, Velodyne Servo's, and other $1,000++ subs. I think my system sounds fantastic and I compare it with many local HT shops on a regular basis. Can it improve?? definitely. Where? in the Bass department. Right now I run two subs in my system a KSW-15 up front and a KSW-100 in the rear. I have my speakers set up as: Fronts=Large, Center=Small, Rears=Small, Sub=Yes I have never even considered setting my KLF-30's to Small and feel terrible trying it...But I shall and I will post my results.... Can I assume that I could have bought five RB-5's and a INSERT YOUR FAVORITE SUB HERE and I would have a better, er, more accurate, flat sounding system??? My ego is shattered running my KLF-30's as small.... Just when I thought I had everything dialed in!!! ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam
  25. Well, this outght to spice things up a bit....I am in New Hampshire on business and stopped in the local Tweeter in Portsmouth and got talking about Dish vs. Direct TV. The young sales guy seemed pretty sharp but caught me off guard with the following statement when I told him I was leeaning towards Dishnetwork. He said "be careful with Dish Network service because they do not provide all digital service, in fact, many stations/channels are broadcast in analog format and will look no better than your current cable"...he went on to say that "all Direct TV channels are broadcast in digital format and will provide a better overall picture quality than DishNetwork"...Is this true, or just another retail sales guy spouting off because Tweeter only sells DirectTV? For those that live in NH, the Portsmouth Tweeter has a pair of RP-5's Demo's for $995. The cabinets look like they been through a few frat parties but they did sound impressive for $995 especially if you are Powered tower fan. ------------------ My main Klipsch system: KLF-30's Bi-wired KLF-C7 KSP-S6's KSW-15 Front Sub KSW-100 Rear Sub Monster cable 14 gauge in-wall cable Niles wall plates Marantz SR-8000 Toshiba SD-4205 5 DVD changer Pioneer PDF-1007 301-CD changer Mitsubishi 35" Mitsubishi VCR Pioneer VSX-608 Multi-room amp for Outdoor deck Polk All-weather AW2's deck speakers Niles in-wall volume controls Fridge full of beer and plenty of Don Julio, Jagermeister and Jim Beam
