  1. Yes JMlab rocks, I own the little Chorus 705 and its a great speaker. The entire Chorus line are great speakers. I also listened to the Cobalt 806s. Never heard the Electras but they are out of price range anyway. and they don't sell at Kmart, they sell in high end dealerships! They are a French company and make speakers costing from $300 - $80,000/pair (yes eighty thousand dollars a pair, its called the JMLab Grand Utopia and most audiofools consider it the best speaker on the planet). Their drivers are also used in other high end speakers like Wilson and Legacy.
  2. You are right I notice that some of the older cd players are built much better and sound better than a lot of the gear today. My current cd player is a 13 year old Sherwood cd player and it still sounds pretty good imo. Not 'digital' like a lot of players and pretty smooth overall. Not to mention that older cd players can be had for peanuts off ebay or thrift shops/garage sales (we're talking in the $10-$20 range here!). They just don't make them like they used to
  3. After 2.5 years of posting and lurking on the boards, I finally broke down and bought a set of Klipsch speakers - the SB-1, open box from Best Buy. I brought them home and set them up, and they sound great! I'm surprised at how good they sound - rich warm, not bright or harsh as I was expecting! They are also very efficient (no surprise there though). I have them playing jazz and they are just awesome! They are replacing some NHT Sb2's which are supposed to be highly regarded speakers but I just don't like them at all. The klipsch kick their butts! If the cheap SB1 sounds this good I can't imagine how good the Reference bookshelves and towers are Anyway kudos to y'all for having an awesome forum here...this is a great community and I'm glad to be part of it. I'm glad I just wish more people knew about Klipsch and didn't put them down as 'harsh'. P.S. - is it worth upgrading to the klipsch SB2??? Oh and does anyone want a slightly used nht sb2 pair??
  4. There was a rumor that Saddam had acted in gay porn back in the late '60's...but that turned out to be false..or was it?
  5. You should move out to your own apartment first chance you get. I had so many problems with roommates as an undergraduate. I finally got my own apartment (off campus), with no roommates, and life was good!
  6. I saw this sub for $350 at my local CompUSSR today. Don't know if it was in stock or not. Oh and Ears, while SVS and HSU may be marked up a bit don't forget they still give the best performance for the money and the B&M subs can't touch them. Just try to see the markup on Definitive or B&W subs while trying to keep a straight face
  7. It will probably last longer than my Oritron dvd player . Check out the reviews of the Oritron players on audioreview if you want to see one of the worst electronic products introduced to consumers.

    Call Of Duty

I played the game through twice before selling it...and yes the sound was outstanding...among the best I've heard in a game before. The game sounded great with my Audigy 2 ZS, I wish I had the Ears sound system, but my Polks for fronts and Wharfedales for rears were satisfactory.
  9. Well what do you know? I am a GT grad! Class of 2002!
  10. Yes X-wing and Tie Fighter are two of the very best PC games ever, and Tie Fighter is probably my all time favorite. Skonopa I see you have Crusader No Remorse/No Regret in your shelf, No Remorse is a great game, ahead of its time and also one of my top favorites. I see you also have some other classics such as Outpost and Syndicate Wars. The last few years I feel creativity in games has been shelved in favor of big beautiful graphics and sound. Too many games are Quake/Half-life clones and to find an original and really immersive game nowadays is rare .
  11. Just FYI, Polk does have its own audio forum, and I've seen at least one Klipsch bashing thread there. One guy started a thread where he said he had the best complement for listening to Klipsch speakers, then he showed a picture of ear plugs
  12. This units weighs in around 15-20 lbs. Do you know where I can get a manual or maybe a remote for this? And how can I find out when it was made? Does Fisher have a website?
  13. I said it was somewhat grainy and muddy compared to my more expensive Cambridge unit. The Fisher still sounds great though. I don't think its a lemon, it works perfectly. Just a different sound than what I am used to.
  14. I just got a Fisher Studio Standard Stereo Receiver(model #9005) today for $25. I got it home and hooked it up and threw some music at it. WOW it sounds freakin amazing!! Neutral sounding if somewhat muddy and grainy midrange, and a little muddy bass, but for $25 this is a steal. I think it blows away any stereo receiver you can get at Beast Buy or Shortcircuit city, and I think I like it better than my $300 Cambridge Integrated Amp! The receiver has very good build quality and its rated at 95 WPC! I know Fisher used to make some awesome gear, I'm guessing this is one of their better products, but I can't find any info on google about this particular receiver. Is anyone else using old Fisher stuff or any other old gear (vintage NAD, Marantz, etc.) that they'd like to mention?
  15. Ok guys thanks for the advice I ended up getting a pair of 20" Atlantis stands. Cost me $140 , but the sound improvment was tremendous. I no longer get those boxy colorations I mentioned. Now the sound is smooth and luscious. Yummy! Now time to go back and listen.
  16. Ok, I have a pair of Energy C-1 bookshelf speakers (please forgive me, I will get Klipsch someday ), and I'm using cheap flimsy 24" wooden stands. I find that the sound is quite colored, with serious colorations at 250hz and 750 hz, likely due to unwanted cabinet resonance (measured this with SPL meter and frequency sweeps). I didn't think the problem lie with the speakers since their supposed to be flat sounding in the midrange and the sales brochure talks about how they are supposed to be engineered to be free of resonance. So I thought the problem was with the stands so I did a little test, I set up the speakers on chairs that are quite sturdy and listened with some music and tested with the frequency sweeps. Right away I found the sound had tightened up, the colorations had been eliminated and I was surprised at how good they sounded! Anyway I want to replace the stands now with high quality metal stands, maybe a bit shorter, say 20". So my question is, do stands really make a difference, or am I just hearing things??
  17. The nForce chipset will encode the game audio into Dolby Digital 5.1 and allow you to pass the signal to an external receiver. No other sound card will give you surround sound through the digital output. If you have an audigy you will have to use the analog outputs on your card, and connect your card to the 5.1 channel analog inputs on your receiver. Then your sound card handles the audio chores and passes the signal to your receiver.
  18. Oh btw on 3dss forums highlander claimed that he was 44 years old, retired, with TWO Phd's!, one in music, the other in electrical engineering (I'm not making any of this up!) Can you say BULLS*** Someone ban this freak so he can troll somewhere else.
  19. All I have to say is LMFAO!! Having followed Ears and Highlander on other forums (Neoseeker and 3dss) I have to say way to go Ears for that awesome ***-whooping post. Poor lowlander is a troll as evidenced by quite a few threads he has been involved in in the past and I sure as hell don't believe he owns any of the gear he claims (Ivy's, Sennheiser Orpheus , Videologic Sirroco Pro), etc.
  20. I can't wait for SVS to introduce their multimedia grade subwoofers featuring 4" drivers and 50 watt amps! Look out logitech!
  21. When Tom Hanks kills Paul Newman in Road to Perdition When the T-REX eats the dude sitting on the toilet in Jurassic Park The opening of the movie Cube where the guy gets 'cubed'. (Repeated in Resident Evil) When the guy gets his still beating heart ripped out in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Mel Gibson's death in Braveheart
  22. What is that promedia satellite doing on top of the RF7? It does not deserve to be in the pic
  23. I'm not surprised you guys abandoned 3dss...with Roj gone the forums are dead.. Anyway I too have made the jump to hifi and will never touch pc speakers again..
  24. 7 pm EST and no sign of pics! Maybe the Ear is too busy fondling his new gear
