  1. Cool! Nice gift. Indirectly through the mother-in-law too. Can't beat that. I have an SL1210 MK2. If the 1320 is anything like it, try using a Sumiko heahshell and Denon DL160 HOMC Cart. I have a pretty long thread on audiogon about carts with the SL1200: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1204087493&read&keyw&zztechnics+sl1200+cartridge Let us know how you like the TT. Cool looking table, just don't use the stacker: http://cgi.ebay.com/TECHNICS-SL-1350-TURNTABLE-DUSTCOVER-SL-1650-DUST-COVER_W0QQitemZ160007207173QQihZ006QQcategoryZ48649QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247
  2. About 5 years ago when Howard Stern was still on the radio he had the American Idol tri on this show. It was classic. This is the summary: The judges from American Idol were on Howard Stern yesterday (01/21/03). They were judging some people who came to the studio to see if they had what it takes to be on AI. They did their usual and ripped pretty harshly into the singers. Finally, the last person up, "Scott" sang a bit from "Hero" (from Spider-Man). (paraphrased) Simon: "You're too old to make it in this business. You're alright, but not very good." Paula: "You were alright, but you lost us when you closed your eyes. You lack the ability to project and you don't have a good presence." Last guy(?): "He was okay. Just okay." Howard:"Since you've already given your judgemen, I can reveal that this isn't Scott, but rather Josey Scott, who wrote and performed on the song "Hero" and is also in the band Saliva. So what does that tell you?" Simon: "That we have absolutely no idea what we are doing." Howard:"Thank you, Josey. By the way, about how many singles of that song did you sell?" Josey:"Over eight million." Artie Lang:"Well maybe if you opened your eyes and projected more, you could have sold nine million."
  3. I have never heard their amps, but I have a CD Pre 24 in one system and an A308CR Preamp and CD Player in my main system and an A3.24 DAC for my music server. I use Bryston amps with it. No Klipsch speakers in either system so I can't comment. Obviously I really like MF equipment. You shoudl be happy. Their older preamps are "tubelike." My A308 sounded "warmer" than a VTL Tube preamp when we compared them. Not sure about the new stuff. Let us know how you like the amp. I would have bought a matching amp fro my Cd Pre system but I had a QSC lying around.
  4. Does anyone here have any experience installing Eldorado Stone (or Cultured Stone) veneer. I am installing over a new cinder block wall and in other areas over stucco. I have the formula for the mortar. I am just wondering on surface prep of the other surfaces. The Eldorado Stone install instructions say to use a slurry bond over the cinder block wall. Can I get the ingredients at the Home Depot? How about over stucco? What do I need to do for surface prep?
  5. Having problems with a Phase II site assessment?
  6. The car thing. Ouch. I went through about 8 car projects and never again. What a wasted youth (and money). Mostly Camaros and Vettes, but SS Chevelle, Jaguars and a few others, all with smal block and big block Chevys. Nothing but time and trouble. I bought a pair of dirt bikes last summer for my wife and me. That is a fun hobby. I keep mine bone stock (Yamaha YZ 450F) and it has more power than I have the courage to use. I spend my time riding, not working on it. I wish that I had gotten into this 20+ years ago instead of cars (maybe not, I would have probbaly hurt myself).
  7. Its like any review. Its this guy, with his speakers, in his system, in his room, with music that he likes. But at least it is a comparison where he probably has no other motives than to give his opinion.
  8. I was driving by Ultimate Electronics in Las Vegas today and thought that I would pop in and see the 60th Aniversary K Horns that they had back in November. I spoke to a salesperson (may have been the manager). He said that they sold them on Ebay for $8,000 right off of the showroom floor. He aslo said that they can order the Palladiums but they do not stock them. He did know of the rare Klipsch products, so they get points for that.
  9. If the Luxman is sittign on a shelf, try it. If it sounds better, great, if not go back to the Adcom. I had a friend tell me to change my Brystons to Classe CAM350's because he felt that I "could do better." He had never heard the Classe amps. I lent him my Brystons for 6 weeks and he loved them and took his words back. As far as what a preamp can do. Imaging, bass weight and definition, separation of instruments ("air"), depth of soundstage, detail, and how natural or "right" voices and instruments sound. I played around wih digital receivers and every time I went back to an audiophile type preamp (Juicy Musci Peach and then a few Musical Fidelity preamps) the difference was there. PS - I still think that one Bryston 4B is plenty.
  10. Erik, The Clarity caps are actually in an older pair of B&W's, and I do like them. Are you building any crossovers that need 6.8 uF's? I have an extra pair of Clarity Cap SA's (the higher end ones) and would be happy to send them to you free of charge. Chris
  11. Whether or not to upgrade is up to you. The Heresy 3 was just upgraded by Klipsch's engineers. For what its worth, I have opened up some very expensive speakers to do repairs (up to $20,000 speakers) and they do not use designer wire and caps. They use very thick wire, and good quality poly caps, but not the really expensive stuff. I also spoke to an engineer at the builder's company and was told that they use "plain old solder" and not silver.
  12. One Bryston 4B is plenty for Cornwalls. Bryston is right up there with Krell and McIntosh. The 20 year warranty, build quality and customer service is hard to beat. Sideways move for a buch of money.
  13. You need to replace all of the caps. Clarity caps are very reasonable and quite good: http://www.madisound.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=356_5_351_353&sort=3a&page=1 Here are the schematics: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/storage/6/1042307/Klipsch_B2_network.jpg Make sure you knowwhich cornwall that you have. The inductors and transformers can most likely be reused.
  14. Erik, I was actually going to add the following to that response but just posted it. The Clarity Caps are the same price as the Solens. I have never compared them and cannot say if they definately make a difference. I have used Solens in several pairs of Klipsch speakers, bypassed Daytons in JBL's and Clarity Caps in B&W's. To the extent that the Clarity Caps are well regarded and are the same price as the Solens, I used the Clarity Caps. I have only built one pair of crossovers in the last year and it was in the B&W's with Clarity Caps. I will use the Clarity Caps in the future. I am pretty sure that they are used in the B&W Nautilus speakers (802 and up). I'm not sure if it will make a difference but why not if it is the same price? I had good results with the bypassed Daytons, but they were in JBL L100T's, not exactly the most detailed speakers ever made. The Solens could sound bright in Klipsch at times. I'd be interested in hearing the Clarity Caps in Klipsch.
  15. You can spend a little more and buy a Technics SL1200 that is used and in good condition. If you don't like it, you can get your money back out of it. I just bought a new Technics SL1210 MK2 (Sl1200 in black) from Musicians Friend. The price was very reasonable. I had a Denon DP37 before. I should have kept it. Very solid fully automatic table. They show up on ebay for about $100 or so from time to time. Here is a good deal: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1215400936

  17. I'll never use Solen's or Daytons again now that I know about these.
  18. I think that you are the only person who has enough cornwalls to sell in exchange for Palladiums.
  19. I gave you 5 stars, just because. BTW, I use pro amps. A QSC PLX 1202 for the office and Bryston 7B ST's (hey, they have rack mounts) in my main system.
  20. Very nice. I did the same mod to Heresy crossovers and thought that it was not quite enough. But with your Heresys on the floor on risers they must sound great. Nice job on them.
  21. Jeff, It is really easy to add fuses to your tweeter and only costs a few dollars. Radio Shack has everything that you need.
  22. Check out Clarity Caps. The PX Series are very reasonable and rate very high on Tony Gee's site. http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html
  23. I think that we all figured that it was a joke.
