  1. Oh my gosh, I'm at 249 posts! Ooops this makes 250!
  2. The reviewer brings up a good point. The 8 inch is space saving, while the Synergy depth is "taxing" and reference is downright "bulky". WHo wants bulking and taxing? ONly silly people. I'll take the space saving design, especially if the play twice as loud with only a 3db gain. Now that is impressive...How do they do that? I thought it would take 10db.
  3. Michael, you could have an affair with the bride to be. That would might put a stop to the wedding, or at least to you being invited... I'm assuming she's not related to you. That should free you up for that saturday.
  4. I reread your post. Looks like I combined several issues of the debate. Sorry about the confusion. I was following the debate about power supplies and only 3 channels rated and combined the two.
  5. MrMcGoo, I don't think adcom bases their ratings on 3 of 5 channels driven. Their amps have been pretty conservatively rated I thought. My owners manual says "power rating to FTC Requirements xxx watts continuous average power into 8 ohms at any frequeancy 20-20 with all channels driven" (xxx is 100 or 150 or whatever the per channel rating is) If I'm reading this wrong, let me know. The manual says they can drive impedances down to 2 ohms and less. They use independent power supplies for each channel. Also, they have 2.5 dbs of headroom. Some may call them bright (which I like), but I don't think they can be classified as anemic by any standards or putting out deceptive ratings. I'm not saying they're in the same class as Sherbourne, just saying their not lacking in terms of beef. I don't doubt they use the same power supplies in the 5 or 7 channels, but could this also mean the 5 channel has a beefier one than it needs? Just a thought.
  6. I have an ADCOM Straight Line Controller. It is a passive "preamp" for lack of better description. No power. It simply allows for volume control and balance of the amp and allows the hook up of audio and video components, allows dubbing. No bass/treble. It has 0% any type of distortion. Essentially, the volume control is a "brake" for lack of a better term. Its a very nice piece, and I use it for 2 channel listening sometimes.
  7. For Dylanl's trade, I'll act as the clearing house. Each party send me the speakers. I'll send them out as soon as I can.
  8. I tear up when I hear Amazing Grace on bagpipes, which was played at my dad's funeral. Doesn't matter what system. The only time I cried due to my stereo system was in 1989. I just noticed the ribbon tweeters on my infinity's had blown and then someone asked me if the amplifier was supposed to smoke like that (it's not...I checked the manual). I cried for days. Then went and bought some Heresy 2's and an adcom amp!
  9. I bought an RC7 from them, and held my breath. There were no klipsh dealers around here. It took 2 weeks because it wasn't in stock, but when it came it was perfect, so overall I'm not complaining. They gave me better service than the supposed Klipsch dealer in this area (who hated klipsh). I didn't know I could have bought from GoodGuys over the net or I would have done that. Or, thinking back, I should have bought from a dealer I knew in IN and just had it shipped. That will be what I do next time. No harm yet, but I know if I need warranty service I'm out of luck. I bought the RF7s from an auth dealer though. And the Heresy's.
  10. I have a proton preamp from the late 80's that I'm not using anymore. I really liked it. It had some very nice outputs, including those that were straight out and those that were high pass out, as well as 2 sub outs (for each channel. It also had a "presence control" like a mid range control (bass, treble, mid range). It also allowed different crossover points. I really liked it. My syster had a proton receiver - rated at (I think) 30 watts, but sure seemed like more. She only recently replaced it. Nice find.
  11. If it sounds good to you, that's what matters. If heard reviews that refer to bright as a positive attribute. When I go to any live concert, I never leave thinking that it sounded warm (though I don't go to jazz concerts). Don't change your combo unless you find something that sounds better to you.
  12. My uncle has a mint MC240 that he's had since new. He used to get it tested when they had "McIntosh" clinics. It tested at specs at 57 watts.
  13. Maranz has a player for mid 300s. Its bigger brother was 1300. Not sure if any of the same parts were used, but might be worth a look.
  14. I've had a hard time posting pictures. Is it as simple as typing the location in the "brouse" field and clicking upload? It takes such a long time that I get timed out (on a cable modem). I must have other computer problems. I'm not using the adcom preamps in my mains system but use the GFA 545 and GFA 7400 power amps. With the HK processor its all American built (my models anyway, not sure anymore). Sub built in the US and maybe the RF7s (though I'm not sure anymore). I'll try the picture posting again
  15. I agree about the full range signal. I keep a full range to the mains as well, supplemented by the sub at 75 or so and below.
  16. I'de like to be there this year. Hell, maybe I can move back to IN... Hopefully its not the weekend of July 8-10.
  17. Call before going to one of these. The dealer locator isn't real acurate. They listed one in Newington CT. I went there and they didn't have any klipsh. Never did. They were considering selling them, but one of the salesmen said that he hopes they never do, because they're only a high end shop. He said this as we was standing next to a wall of paradigm speakers. (No offence to Paradigm, I think they're good speakers, just not the snotty high end that he supposedly only sold (JL Labs, etc...). Call first to make sure they're actually a dealer. I've noticed a couple CT dealers fall off the website (mainly installation companies) over the last year, so Klipsch is probably getting it up to date. Hopefully the one in watertown is an actual dealer. They weren't listed a few months ago.
  18. That's great that it blended so smoothly. I really like the infinity subs I've heard. I haven't heard that one but did hear the intermezzo 1.2. and the other one that is hooked to those real skinny towers. They are very musical. Its amazing what a difference the crossover point makes. Our your mains still getting a full range signal or are you cutting them off at the crossover point? Are you going to use this with the khorns or the B&W's?
  19. Damnit guys... I just read the whole thread before realizing the date. I hope a lot of people do..Ha. Actually, it was still worth reading...
  20. I don't know, the manual just gives the range +/- 3dbs and the max output. So I guess we could assume the worst would be 114dbs at 22hz, but I'm not sure if its as simple as that. I'll try to find out more. For me the best thing I like is that it blends so well with music. Its invisible.
  21. Well, we can all agree that the wood volume knob would make an audible difference. Afterall, many of the finest instruments are made of wood.
  22. I agree, I do this as well, I have it set up so that with the push of a button, I can add and delete the LFE. I think doing it this way gives you more flexibility to blend the signals and find the ideal crossover match for your speakers/sub combo.
  23. I have a Nakamichi 582, w/ remote. Currently I can't get play in one of the channels (last I tried). I think its simple, but not sure. Problem is, to get it fixed might be more than its worth and I have no tapes. It happened before and it was $50, but that was 10 years ago. Now its probably $200 to get fixed, with a market price of around that (probably)...So it, sits on a shelf, because it is gorgeous. ...and fully amortized...
  24. Can you see McIntosh sueing growers of McIntosh Apples or McIntosh Computer? If its in a completely different industry, it should be irrelevant. Infinity Speakers vs Infiniti cars. Lincoln National vs Lincoln Printing vs Lincoln Car vs Lincoln Benefit vs Lincoln..... All that's needed is common sense. In the above example, I'm sure that if a speaker manufacturer decided to use the name "Infiniti" with the "i", Infinity would have a legitimate claim. They know a car company doesn't infringe on their name. I hope a company who uses Monster in their name and was around before Monster Cable turns the table on these f***s.
