  1. Per stereophile, that was one of the 100 most important compenents of all time. Great sounding, conservative rated amp with miniscule distortion. My brother has the same amp. I know everyone hates stereophile, but still worth mentioning.
  2. Thanks for the tips Michael. The movers lost the pegs, but it would be easy to replace a peg with something similar. I'll give the glue a try.
  3. I agree with RFK. THe movers damaged 2 of the pegs on my grills, but I could really care less (they paid the $55 replacement cost which I pocketed). The plastic mesh is worth its weight in gold if you have kids, or something gets pushed infront of them. I've pressed on this and it would take a lot of force to do damage. I want the grill to protect the speaker. I will replace it if a couple more pegs fall off, but this likely won't happen until the next move. By that time the grill will have saved those copper woofers a multitude of time. If you really hate the feet, you could stick Velcro on it...That's all my Heresy's have, and I think that works fine as well.
  4. With a DLP, I would build it into the wall if you can (depending on what you are using the opposite room for. The wall would give you a 5-6" shelf. If you can protrude into the opposing room and dry wall that in, you could turn that into a nick nack shelf in the opposite room. You could then have the speaker flush with the DLP TV. That would look very nice.
  5. Tell her that its a radon gas remover and air filter that you got because you wanted here to be safe because you love her. Tell her you may need to buy a lead paint neutralizer and use that excuse for your next upgrade. If that doesn't work, just say you found it and don't know what it is.
  6. Definately both Peter Gabriels. The NIN is also very good (DTS). Also, if you like irish music the Corrs is good as well.
  7. After cleaning with denatured alcohol, try drinking distilled alcohol. See if that corrects the imbalance....Sorry....You can go back to trying to solve the problem, I'll go to work.
  8. It really is. I'm starting to listen to 2 channel cds in one of the non-prologic sound modes - using the center actually. It provides a very nice wall of sound that can best be described as very well blended. My only problem is it sounds best on top the tv, but there isn't really enough surface area so I'll have to build a shelf on top. Now its just the surrounds and sub that need replaced
  9. THe RF7 brochure I have from over a year ago shows the RF series mated with Yamaha components. It thought it was odd that a brochure would make such an obvious statement when Aragon could have easily been displayed. I thought it was done to aid dealers in an affordable to buy package, given Yamahas wide availability.
  10. Since both of these amp manf's are widely distributed, you may be able to listen to both and make the decision, or you may find out you like neither. Bright is not necessarily bad or good. Neither is warm. I've seen both referred to positively and negatively, depending on who's talking. I was lucky enough to find both manufacturers at the same store.
  11. I listened to Peter Gabriel Grows up and I'm super happy. I can't make a fair comparison since my previous center was not a true match (and wasn't even a true center). But the concert was definately much more seamless. I don't understand exactly what timbre means, but the three front channels definately blended perfectly together. I'm sure this says nothing as it should be expected, but for me, I was usually listening to this in DTS 4 channel, not 5.1 because of what I was using for a center. What was a real pleasent surprise was that when listening to CDs or even the radio, using some of the other modes other than 2 channel stereo, actually incorporating the center channel...sounded really, really good. I feel like I now have extended use of my HK sig2.0 processor, the modes sound very natural and now believe that the 4 movie ones are identical except for emphasis on center. Very happy...this was long overdue.
  12. Few weeks ago I posted saying that I took the plunge and ordered the RC7 from NameBrandez.com because of the issues I had with the "dealer" in this area. I was worried about UPS primarily. Well it arrived today (single boxed) and when the chucked it from the moving UPS truck (kidding...) no dents to the box. I opened it and it was flawless. They really did a great job in transport, because it was only single boxed, so hats off to UPS. As I stated before, I never had a problem with UPS, but always here horror stories. Checked the back of the speaker, still has the sticker on it with serial number, so I have to believe its unaltered. I have it hooked up, and the kids are watching a kids dvd. I haven't put it to the test yet, but it definately makes it easier to listen to dialoge from this movie vs the full range infinity I was using (I was originally using infinity all around, and when I bought the RF7s, shelved the infinity's except for one that I used for center). Anyway, It's vertical now until I find a good way to display it horizontally. I'm really happy. Its cherry and looks gorgeous, for $529 vs who knows what from the dealer (who was too busy to give me a price) and was going to order it from another dealer... I figured I wasn't going to get much service from the dealer anyway, so WTF. My RF7s were auth dealer purchased, and will buy the RS7 surrounds from auth when I'm near a different dealer. But so far I'm really happy. Tomorrow is the music test. I'm looking forward to listening to my peter gabriel dvd again.
  13. I was reading an older issue of absolute sound and wondered...Could I make a million dollars if I developed audio cables that were filled with liquid mercury and claimed that this liquid metal enabled the signal to "flow" better because liquid flows better then solid metal. I'm curious because: 1) I'd like to retire early and I think I'de be able to make a lot of claims without having to prove anything. 2) I think people would buy them just to say "well, my cables are made out of mercury, one of the most dangerous of metals" 3) I think there is a big Mercury storage facility near where I used to live. 4) for some reason, noone else has thought of mercury cables. I could then venture into lead and other dangerous materials. It seems to have an edgy marketing spin to it.
  14. Riddle me this: Is biwiring a 200 watt per channel amp equivalent to passive bi-amping a two 100 watt versions of that same amp? Seems like it is... I'm passive biamping 2 adcom 100 watt amps, and I lose sleep wondering if this is the same as running the identical 200 watt version of the same amp. Last night when thinking about this I almost pee'd my pants.
  15. I've never noticed the imaging issue on the RF7s even when not toed in optimally, I still get good imaging. When toed in properly (which in my room is just slightly), there have been times where I've checked the processor to make sure its in Stereo because I could swear its coming out of the center channel as well. The only thing that took some getting used to with horns were when I first bought my Heresy's, I noticed that they were more prone to being blocked by people walking in front of it. My previous infinity Qa's didn't have this. But this is just due the more direct (narrow) dispersion of the horn vs cone/ribbon Qa.
  16. I don't see a 4" midrange on those, unless its set way back into a horn. Could the 4" midrange one of the surround drivers?
  17. It is easy to over analyze. I felt that way shortly after reading some posts on the forum, then trying different preamps, etc. At one point I stuck my head in the tweeter and could here hiss with 1 preamp, and not with the other preamp. But from any listening position or with any music playing, even very low volumes, the preamp that hissed sounded better (I could never here the hiss unless my ear was in the tweeter and only in DD or DTS mode - not stereo), but it mentally bothered me for a long time. Finally, I decided to not put my head in the tweeter and since then have felt a lot better... Until I read this thread, now I'm drawn to stick my head back in there to see if maybe, magically its disappeared. Thanks alot
  18. If his main goal is to have the amps work less, couldn't he just buy a crossover, and cross the points with a little cushion? If his crossover point in the speaker is 2000 hz, couldn't he have an active crossover send everything above 1500 to one amp, and have this amp go to the HF section of the speaker. Then send all HZ below 2500 hz to the other amp. Wouldn't this be invisible to the passive crossovers in the speaker. They're both getting everything they're expecting, just a little more. Seems the only issue here woudl be that the amps are eaching working a little harder than perfect (each getting 500hz more than they ideally would, but still taking a huge amount of HZ out of the picture). The only other issue is that one might need to crossovers to do this. Wouldn't this work?
  19. probably 2 klipshhorns, or 2 Patricians. Or 1 very well packed bose lyfestyle cube system.
  20. Ray, thanks for the bad news. I was the one requesting 2 day air for that very reason...Oh well. I'll find out in a few days, if it ever does arrive. If home, I'll open it right there. Does anyone know what the official policy is on leaving items at door steps. I've had them leave $1000 insured pieces of equipment at the doorstep, but then require that I go to the UPS dist center to pick up $50 items. Is this at the discretion of the shipper? In all fairness to UPS, I have never had a damage issue with them (though they have lost items). I don't use them much, maybe 20 times in my life (except work). I do always worry when I purchase something from them, or anyone though for that matter.
  21. Picky, It may have been firestone. That's a better excuse than his weight. He really gained alot by the time he was in Indy. Even the video he's not as heavy. I guess the road is hard on a diet. He remains one of my favorite musicians of all time. How great it must be to produce the music you really like, assembling musicians from all over the world...And it sells to boot!
  22. It is a great disc. My wife and I saw him in Indy last summer. The big bouncy ball actually sprung a leak. But he fixed it and played the song over. I think it was his last gig in the US before going overseas and played for about 2.5 hours. One song not on the dvd that sounded so good live was "games without frontiers". It should have made the cut.
  23. Steeler, where are you crossing over at. I'm considering a new sub. My preamp crosses over at 100 only. I wasn't sure if this is optimal for my RF7s - thinking maybe it should be lower. Do you use the LFE out, or do you run RCA into the sub, and then out to the amps. If so, what crossover?
  24. I have an RC7 on the way, the shipper only sends UPS. I bought the 2 day air, hoping that maybe I might prevent an extra 3 days of beatings. Of course, this was 1.5 weeks ago and I'm still waiting.
  25. Well, its a totally different sound. If you didn't like the heresy's, you might find the RF7s more to your liking, or you might find out you just don't like the sound of klipsh period. The RF7s are definately not laid back. I own both, but don't use them together. Have you listened to the RF7 with the amp/receiver you'll be using? You'de hate to find out you made the same mistake again.
