  1. Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell It's pretty much one song anyway.
  2. Hey man, I had about the same $ amount in mind when I started a HT replacement. I bought one year old speakers. Ksf-8.5's, sc-1, ksw-12, and sb-1's. I bought a new Yamaha rx-v630 receiver. I have no regrets about any of it, although I am still looking for a rear center speaker. It is just enough to let me know how nice a Klipsch system can be and to want bigger, stronger, faster, etc. (Calm down and be happy with what you got (for now)). If you get a chance, compare the Yamaha HTR series with their RX-V series. good luck
  3. In Jaws...The conversation of the USS Indianapolis makes my skin crawl. You cann't handle the truth
  4. Why do the rear bias-ply tires on my '69 'cuda keep melting? Perhaps to much horsepower is just to much horsepower. (?)
  5. I went throught the same decision when I got my new Klipsch speakers. Life is kind of short to agonize over something like this, so I made my (2) rear cables the same length and the (3) front cables the same lenght. It's only cable. When I opened up my ksf-8.5's and saw the wire inside, I started to wonder if anything matters. It was REAL small. Good luck
  6. "Now honey, don't you remember us taking about this?" Sorry man, just a thought.
  7. I like my new to me ksf-8.5's, but has anyone put it a single K-1083-SB from an RF-3 into an 8.5? Both are 8" woofers. Just curious at what might happen. I cannnot seem to keep my hands off stuff. Thanks BTW.... I enjoyed reading about the internal re-wire on the 5.5's. I had to take my KSF's apart to repair a loose connection, and I was amazed at the diminutive size of the wire inside. I might try the re-wire myself. Has anyone done it to the KSF-8.5's?
  8. Hey man, I just bought a Yamaha rx-v630. There was a big difference between it and the Denon of similiar price. The Denon kind of sounded bad in comparison. Now that's just my ears in the Tweeter store playing through Synergy speakers. The Yamaha is night and day compared to my older Pioneer. Congrat's on the gift of Heresey. Good luck, Chris
  9. FYI weights for 4' x 8' x 3/4" thick sheets: 7-ply plywood - 70 lbs particle board - 86 lbs MDF board - 105 lbs.
  10. Good afternoon, I cann't answer your question, but I recently replaced my Pioneer 308 with a Yamaha rx-v630, and it's great. Music is cleaner (through the DVD), and movies are a new experience. I have found myself watching / listening to country musid videos it sounds so good. I listened to several in the $500 price range at Tweeter, and this one won hands down. From what I could hear, it would have taken $1000 to have made a significant difference. It made quite a difference in the low end (bass) sharpness. I'm still learning how to set the Yamaha up. It works with my Synergy speakers. I am also shopping for a (Synergy) rear suround. good luck
  11. All the talk about adding the woofer to KG-3.5's for use as a center has got me thinking. Would I do myself any good by adding a second woofer to my KSF-8.5's that I use as my mains? What would have to be done about the crossover? A new woofer is still avilable for around $90. Thanks a bunch, Chris
  12. In comparing receivers, what is the linear damping factor and is 80+ a good number? Thanks, Chris
  13. I'm going to trow-up now C. H.

  15. How do unauthorized retailers get the products to sell in the first place? Does the factory sell to a distributor, then the distributor sell to retailer? If it is the distributor selling to unauthorized retailers, then it seems to me the factory doesn't care who they sell their own products to. It would be to their advantage if all their products went to unauthorized dealers. Then no warranty on anything. I have seen this topic come up with several manufacturers, and some of them even warn against buying from an unautherized dealer. I'm just curious how they get the merchandise in the first place. Good day, Chris Hollis
  16. I worked a 40 hr per week job and put myself through Mechanical Engineering school with a home mortgage, wife, and 2 very small childeren. After 6 years of nights and weekends, I earned my BSME degree. I didn't have the best grades in the world, but I finished. My future and my family's future was at stake. So, How bad do YOU want it? Work stuff was work stuff. School stuff was school stuff. And, home stuff was home stuff. NEVER try and mix things up. Leave your cushy little home, get to the library or some other scholastic environment and do your school work. When that's done, then you can enjoy the rest of your like by working for a @#$% head employer . Good day, Chris Hollis
  17. Good afternoon, I recently bought a pair of Ksf 8.5's, and upon initial playing, one of the woofers spounded like it was blown. Further investigation showed a loose wire inside at the woofer. All of the wires inside looked pitifully small. Is there any benefit to upgrading the wire size? I pre-wired the house with 12 ga. wire with the longest run being about 30 ft. I almost feel that I wasted my money on the 12 ga. after seeing what was inside the speakers. Any / all comments appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  18. Thanks John, I hooked up my spare sub to the rear speakers and all is well. Chris
  19. I am enjoying my new (used) klipsch speaker system, and I have a question. I am thinking about connecting a subwoofer with back surround speakers. I have a spare powered sub that is not particularly good quality, but instead of selling it at this time, I thought I would play around with it for a while. Last night I was fooling around with my receiver (cheapish Pioneer), and I saw on the specs that its output frequency range is from 40-20K Hz on all channels. Now my sub's (ksw-12) range is from around 25-100 Hz. If I'm doing the math correctly, I am missing out on 15 Hz of the 75 Hz range of my subwoofer that my receiver does not reproduce. Is this right? Things to worry about. Is it bad form to run wires from the surround outputs on my receiver to the inputs on the sub then wire from the sub to the surround speakers? Thanks again, Chris H.
  20. I read about people using dual subs. How do you hook them up. I have a Pioneer surround receiver. Thanks, Chris Hollis

    KSW-12

Good afternoon, Just a thought........The sub is adjustable in both frequency and volume. If the sub does not kick in as often as you like, monkey with the frequency control. Good luck, Chris H
  22. Thanks below for the great electron story. Great humor. Does anyone have a KSF-C5 for sell? I would like to get a small survey going as to the types of receivers (earth based transmission receivers) used on this board. Thanks, Chris Hollis Tennessee Valley Power, Dark and grainy sounding coal, neon brassy nuke, and smooth clear hydro electrons all combined in perfect stoichiometric relationship yielding beautiful music.
