I'm looking to shuffle some equipment around at home and find myself looking for recommendations (and offers if applicable) for a nice used receiver to drive a pair of Klipschorns in a 2.1 channel Features it must have: - Excellent with music - Phono preamp - Subwoofer output (with built in crossover) - Cost less than 450$ Since I don't need video switching, or any surround modes... I'm thinking that for that money I should be able to get an excellent, older, obsolete, Dolby HT unit. What models would you guys recommend? ROb PS: I would consider separates if the combined price falls into that range.

A very slippery slope it is.... [:$]

As in sprayed on polyurethane insulation? If so, just a side note, you'll have to verify local building codes if you are considering leaving the it exposed on the inside... as it is not permitted by our local fire code.

OT: request recommendations for multimedia projector

Try the search feature on www.projectorcentral.com web site.... i agree you need a relatively bright unit so stay away from the HT units that sacrifice brightness for accuracy (ie: stick to the buisness units)... check out the features you like at http://www.projectorcentral.com/buyers_guide.htm and then give their search engine a whirl. I've seen a couple of Dell rebates recently that made their unit pretty inexpensive (dell canada though).... ROb -

Actually there are a couple of montrealers who post regularly... including myself (klipsch heritage) from the east island... theEAR (klipsch reference) from central... and Kudret (klipsch heritage) also west island. Then there are a couple of guys just south of the border... like frzinvt... etc... [] ROb

Michael, did you ever get around to taking / posting an intimate photo shoot of a 60anv khorn? I'm really curious on the detailing... and how the top hat sits on the bottom (without a spacer?). Is the bass cabinet taller (1/2" or 3/4") to include the lowest "home plate"? ROb

I'm actually using both those techniques as i power both my subwoofers with pro-amps. QSC,no longer offers the "quiet fan" kit... but you can do it yourself using an after market unit (although it "technically" voids the warranty)... and it is still lightly audible.
-
It is important to note that the PLX series is fan cooled (as are most pro amps), and therefore it will be audible in a quiet room.

I used "Same Day Right of Way" www.sameday.ca to ship a pair if Klipshorns (on a palette) from Winnipeg to Montreal ... as well as a some large (5'x4'x8") electronics from Vancouver to Montreal. Worth calling them for a quote... ROb
