  1. The good news is that Dan Dierdorf is retiring after tonight's game. The bad news is that far too many NFL sportscasters seemed to have graduated from the Dierdorf school of "hiney kissing". I certainly won't miss Dierdorf but I fear I'll think of him as I listen to half the boneheads calling the NFL Games. Hopefully a fair number of NFL Refs will call it quits after this season. Of course, maybe it's all the new rules but in all my years of watching pro football I have never seen so many stupid calls and no calls. It'd be great to see the Panthers and Broncos in the SB but I'll be watching as long as that gum-chewing nit-wit isn't on one of the sidelines!
  2. Sorry I didn't include my location in the original post. I'm in/around Hartland, WI. Having said that, Jeff, (tidmac) has first dibs. Scott
  3. SOLD! The Klipsch Heresy Speakers have been spoken for by a fine Klipschster from right here in the land of milk & cheese. Thanks for interest all! Here's a nice pair of Klipsch Heresy Speakers that I've had, (but not used) for many years. They're oiled walnut and they do have a few handeling marks but overall, (cosmetically) they're in good condition. I did hook them up the other day and they sound great. No issues there at all. I'd prefer local pick-up but will ship if necessary. Actual shipping chargers will apply; including the cost of packing them up properly. I may have the original boxes in my storage locker but I'm not sure. Figured I'd offer them to Forum Members before going the e-bay or Craig's List route. Asking $325 but will consider reasonable offers.
  4. The unscrambling is much appreciated. Many thanks!

  8. I viewed a nice Samsung 50" 3D plasma today. Cool but not something I would spend the extra iron on. Maybe down the line when the cost of 3D projectors drops to a reasonable range I'd consider one for the HT. I do like the plasma though. Watched a little of the Packer vs Falcon game, (painful outcome) and was very impressed with the Samsung and Panasonic. I still think prices will come down before Christmas.
  9. I've been looking for something in the 46 to 50 inch range and have found the Sony Desplays to be quite good. Since I haven't been to a commercial theater in over 7 years I have no idea what 3D is all about so I'm not sure I would spend the extra money. One thing I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is anything about Hz. If I understand it correctly, the higher the Hz level the less blurr in sporting events. Is that a reasonable assumption or? Saw the two listed below at BB just yesterday. Sony - BRAVIA / 46" Class / 1080p / 240Hz / 3D LED-LCD HDTV Model: KDL-46HX800 | SKU: 9904963 ($1699) Sony - BRAVIA / 46" Class / 1080p / 240Hz / LED-LCD HDTV Model: KDL-46NX800 | SKU: 9904909 ($1299)
  10. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Like your avatar Guy. One of my favorites for sure!

  12. Skonopa - I figured that might have been the jist of the post but was hoping someone on the Forum had some actual experience with one of these. The dealer is pretty high on the performance; especially at the price point. He's willing to deal on a slightly used one he has on hand and will set it up with my Lyra Clavis Cart. Tks for the info. I read several other reviews and they were all pretty positive.
  13. OK, curiosity has gotten the best of me. Please be more specific or elaborate on what you mean by "transparent sound". Tks!
  14. Vondy - It was several years ago and I can't recall exact numbers. I bought the 299 along with a Scott Tuner and I think both were around $325 - $350. Craig is quite reasonable with his make overs and he has a lot of experience with Scott 299s. Much depends on the chassis you are able to get. I had mine shipped directly to Craig and was pleased with the service, price and performance. I also think the phono section on the 299 is excellent. With either my Well Tempured or Rega P3 the results were excellent. You better get one quick cause all this has be thinkin' again![]
  15. I bought a Scott 299 off eBay and had Craig @ Nos/Valves spiff it up. When I hooked it up with the Forte IIs my kids and I were amazed. My wife, who normally could give a rip about sound quality, (loves music, however) wondered what all the fuss was about. When she sat down and listened to Stairway to Heaven she actually cried. We then played Santana's Abraxas and for the first time in her life she sat and listened to an entire LP without getting up and dancing around or doing something else. She wondered where the other speakers were and kept looking up and behind her to see what was going on. In a weak moment I shipped that 299 off to another Forum member. Unless the room to be used is quite large, Forte IIs will perform fantastically with a 299.
  16. Forte IIs and a Scott 299 would be an excellent combination.
  17. Anybody have one of these (PRO-JECT PERSPEX TURNTABLE) or have any knowledge you could share about the table?
  18. Tom - Hit the stop button a couple times then unplug for an hour or longer. Plug it back in and see what happens. Questions: Can you hear the lift mechanism functioning? Does the display indicate a disc is in and ready to go? If yes, your problem could be the laser mechanism. The shop sold quite a few of these units and has not had any significant problems although operations tend to be a bit slower than other changers. It is a very fine sounding unit with all CDs but it's great for SACD.
  19. I have one of those Tom and although it's never quit playing it seems to take it's time performing normal functions. I guess it never bothered me that much, (it's in where I shoot pool) so I've never taken it back to the dealer. I plan to stop at that dealership tomorrow or Tuesday and I'll ask the service guy. I've know him for over 30 years so if I get any information I'll pass it along to you. BTW - I think Craig, (Nos/Valves) bought a 333 when I bought mine. In fact, I think he e-mailed me to tell me a dealer, local to me, had them on special and I think he ordered his from them as well.
  20. My brother just sent me this link and I figured our Forum Jazz Fans would find it enjoyable. The article says it’s the only known footage of the great Clifford Brown. Thanks to the late Soupy Sales! http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200910270345/NEWS/910270329

  22. I recall hearing that Paul Klipsch had Forte IIs in his office and was quite fond of them. For multi-channel, I have to agree with the Academy advocates. I tried all three as a center, (Quartet, Forte II and Academy) and the best set-up was the Forte IIs up front with the Academy and the Quartets as surrounds. My Forte IIs are in a 12 X 14 room and set-up for 2 channel listening. Though I really enjoy my Cornwalls, the Forte IIs will be the last speakers I ever sell. Like Martha Argerich, they are something special!
  23. You may want to consider a Rega Apollo or Eastern Electric Mini Max. I have vintage McIntosh and newer Balanced Audio Technology amps and pre-amps and both the Rega Apollo and Eastern Electric Mini Max meld quite well with both systems. BTW, I have Cornwalls for both systems but I have experienced both CD players with K-Horns. Very nice!
  24. gpbusa - Thank you for the information. It has been very helpful!
