  1. That little bit won't heart nothing. Now if you were using that thing for a couple of hours striaght then you will need hearing protection.
  2. Friday night we had a lightning strick. I hit the Road Runner cable in the ground. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard. The wife jumped up screaming from her sleep. It melted all the cable wires and the two boxes outside. It wiped out my cable modem. Which is fine because I don't own it. Then I started to smell something funny. The lightning must have hit the antenna on the roof too. It wiped out my HD receiver and another receiver in the bedroom. They were both smoking. The Tivo unit was fine. I think that it was because it was one a big old APC unit and the cables ran through a good surge protector. Long story short, it is almost summer and with summer are storms. Go out and get a good surge protector that covers all cables and power. It will be money well spent. Learn from my mistake.
  3. That sub does not go low enough for HT. Go for a good cunsomer model. Check out SVS.
  4. 1,000's post. Why are you still dealing with cable if you want HD?
  5. Most commercial subs do not go low enough. Get specs. Most Commercial stuff has higher noise and distortion. Let us know what stuff you are getting and we can help more.
  6. What speakers are you using in those openings? I hope there not rear ported. Looks like it is going to be a great room.
  7. The 35's are much better speakers and you will not regret getting them. Let us know what you end up doing and what you think
  8. As for setting your mains to large or small it is a personal thing. Try differnt settings and see what you like the best. I have mine set to large and the crossover set at 60hz. This is what sounds best to me and my room.
  9. It is because most receivers don't have decoders for the new format.
  10. That would make sense. I would upgrade if you could to the RF35's. It will give much better sound. For the rears you want to go as big as you can. I like to have towers in rear. I like direct rad. speakers in the rear. Some other people in the board have been switching also. If you ever start to listen to SACD or DVD-a you will want direct in the back. My father had a system that had smaller speaker in the back and I told him he was missing so much. He didn't beleive me intill he just upgraded to a full tower system. He is soooo much happier now.
  11. Did dish put the HD recorder back on the market yet? They released it early so guys like you could feel all warm and fuzzy that they had the first one out. Doesn't do much good now does it, it doesn't work very well. Direct will have there's out this week. There are many cable companies with HD. TW in my area has there HD recorder out right now. It works ok but it doesn't have the great features the tivo units have. Charter has HD also some others. Recording HD right now isn't that big of a deal because there just isn't enough on in HD and the same time. I can record HD with my computer and I very seldom do. I will takd a sat system any day over cable. Dish or Direct or Cband. If I had the room I would get C-band. The best of everything.

    Runaway Jury

I think that kind of thing happens all the time in the big cases.
  13. I liked it also. Nothing special but kept you into it.
  14. I saw it myself. Not bad.
  15. I will take both you on. I was a Gm/Jeep/Chrysler tech for years. GM used to bring me there allmost and buy backs to fix. I used to talk to the Engeneers and tell them how to change things to fix problems they are having. I have a T/C for you if you need one. I will sell it to you.
  16. Picky It is 400 rms into 8 ohms. 1.2kw peaks. My room is 12x25. I used to run a Denon 4802 that had 125x7 and I thought that was enough before I got more. Now I will never go back. I live up in WI and let me tell you I don't need to have the heat on in that room with all of the 7 amps on.
  17. ---------------- On 4/11/2004 10:51:19 AM mikey j wrote: A few things to consider... I saw a press release for DIRECTV a while back, and with News Corp. buying a big chunk of the company, this was said... "Focusing on the short term, during 2004 ............ Our high-definition programming will increase by two to three times, including the expansion of local HD content" FYI another quote... " In set top boxes, we will standardize our box and remote to simplify and enhance the consumer experience. This standardization will focus on the best features and make the DIRECTV experience easier to sell, understand and service." Just a little food for thought... And remember, opinionions are like a**holes, everybody has one ---------------- Two to three times as many will not get you all that many more channels. They have 6 channels now including the Prem. channels. So 12 stations. This isn't to great. Better than nothing. Also locals will be only offered to people that are in grade C over the air, which doesn't include 70% of the people. As for the Equimpent going all Directv, This is not good. Look at there tivo unit. It takes them for ever to come out with updates and they drop some of the nicest features to save money. Don't get me wrong I have Directv now and had haved them for many years. I have tryed dish and there PQ wasn't as good. They are cheaper. Like I said I am going to try voom and from what I have seen and read about it is going to be nice. These other companies realy need to step it up or they won't last. I have not talked to anybody that has HD that can't tell the differnce between 480i and 1080i or 720p. That cable guy is talking out of his ***. Probally the same guy that will tell you that you will loose signal everytime it rains.
  18. I am glad that I am not the only one that thinks the sound track needs some work. Like I stated before in this thread it was ok. I do not need more power either I have 400 watts rms to all 7 speakers and SVS sub. Sure there is one or two seens that have some good bass, but to me this doesn't make the sound track. If you want to hear a good sound track watch reign of fire. It has the proper use of surround usage. Do any of you guys listen to multi channel SACD or DVD-A? If you get some good ones you will see that this movie is nothing special. I am sorry if I am pissing some people off. This is how I feel. I have a good system and I have watched tons of movies. I have over 300 now, so I know good sound tracks. I have had friends over to watch it and they said the same thing, "It was a good movie but it could have had a better sound track." They never sayed anything like that when they watched Gladiator or Reigh of fire.
  19. I watched it last night. Not bad. I was hoping for something a little better. The sound was good but not that top notched. For a movie like that I would have liked to see a EX or ES sound.
  20. The channel change time has been fixed. It is now faster than Directivo unit. I am changing over when I move at the end of the month. I am sick of waiting for Dish and Directv to get more hd. I don't care about the remote because I have a Harmony remote that I will use. They also include a antenna to receive local hd. They provide a better antenna then the rest of the companies. If there antenna doesn't work they will give you a $60 credit for a upgrade. There installer will come out and hook it up for free. I have heard good things from the people that have it and I heard customer support is good. They have most of the SD channels we watch and don't have all that wasted bandwidth stations the others have.
