  1. Not sure about the sub but the best match would be more Forte ll,s . Not always easy to fit but that would be best. Academy,s for center and surrounds would also be good but would almost cost twice as much as all Forte,s.
  2. That is some very nice veneer, I have never bought veneer. Is the price per SF, how does it work?
  3. They look very nice, i also like the color. The room also looks great, now just invite some people over, they will not believe the whole setup. They look like like you may have a hard time staying awake, better be a good movie.
  4. Congratulations It will improve your life as much as his.
  5. This is dtel's wife, he was logged in and I didn't realize it before I posted this: Nextel and Sprint have merged. Depending on what your intended use with the phone is Nextel/Sprint offer free incoming calls. This is a real nice plus for you and your clients/customers. If a client/customer calls you don't have to rush them off of the phone because you are being charged towards your total minute usuage. Also, you can control the minutes you are billed for since you only pay for outgoing calls. I personally have tried a few, recently went back to Nextel. The walkie-talkie feature is really nice if you have business associates, clients or anyone else that has Nextel, this feature is free. ie. no time charged toward outgoing or incoming. Most businesses went Nextel. For a while they were the only cell phone carrier with the walkie talkie feature. It is still probably the most widely chosen cell phone carrier for business. You can check out Sprint's website and Nextel's website, depending on the info you put in you may be redirected to Nextel Partners which is the same thing. They offer a variety of plans, if you need any advice let me know. The cell phone business is a "racket" so be careful. BTW, you can order online with Nextel, no salesmen. Your telephone will come in about two to three days. A few of the plans come with a free phone.
  6. For the average person anything Klipsch has is a step up. Yes there is a difference, but for now i would still use them. My vote RC7 then maybe change out rears. Subs, rsw12 or one of the new ones? And yes there is a difference between reference and heritage also.
  7. Yes i would think that two is better than one but i never tried it myself.....OH sorry wrong thread i thought this was Prettiest girl thread.
  8. Moon is that Grizzley band saws, they have some very nice tools. Order there catalog it's free but when you see the tools you will want to spend some money. A friend bought a joiner from them, helped him put it together very well made about 500 POUNDS, very good quality. http://www.grizzley.com/
  9. The only thing i have with hdmi is the tv an it's not being used . 7.1 ,8 channels thats going to get a little crazy , that many large speakers if you like heritage. When 7.1 is the standard ,in my case 7 forte ll,s would take up alot of space.
  10. If it's just the surround , i had found a company on the internet about a year ago ,can't recall the name of the company but they sold a kit to replace surrounds. I had a pair of old baby Advents i use in the shop and the foam was gone. They had replacements for almost any speaker, The kit was very cheap like $15 or so and was very easy to do ,shim the center after removing the dust cover and glue on the new surround then glue a new dust cover on , let dry and good as new. Everything is supplied , It is really much easier then it sounds, and cheap.
  11. I was going to try to rotate the two horns at first but then after trying them sideways i changed my mind . Had a hard time cuting and changing a perfectly good set of forte ll,s . To me i really can,t seem to hear a difference, the rear speakers are about 8 feet apart and i don,t think i can hear a difference. But we are talking about rears here.
  12. Well in the last few weeks i have tried this a couple of different ways myself but not with the main two speakers. I have 4 forte ll,s ,I need to get 2 more later to go 6.1. I started with 2 of the forte,s as mains and one as a center laid down on top of entertainment center for a couple of weeks. Then I took the center down and put it with the other forte as rears. The rears had to go up on a beam [ with big metal brackets ] also on their side tilted down about 45 degrees. To tell the truth i could not hear a difference , the room is 24 feet wide and 18 feet deep. I could not say if the mains would sound different on their sides ,for movies it might not make that much difference. But for music it may , I don,t think i would want the front 2 main speaker that close, i would want them spread out a little more if the room would allow. If they coulden,t be spread out more at least put the mid an high freq drivers to the outside. But to answer the question for sure try your to lay your forte,s down where they would go with the new tv and give it a try then you will know for sure. Let us know what you end up doing.
  13. This should be just what the DrWho ordered. DrWho's : [ what kind of subwoofer are you looking to build? One of my favorite designs involves using a triangle, somewhat tucked into a corner with a front-firing active and two "side" firing passives. Since triangles are strong and almost every face is covered with a driver there isn't much need for too much excessive bracing. In fact, the only real thing to worry about is the entre sub itself jumping around (but that should be minimized cuz no two drivers are facing the same direction...they all cancel each other out). ]
  14. Yes it does have phantom mode and that is what i thought i would use,I did that when i had the synergy center it sounded better going thru the mains, fortes than thru a smaller center. The only reason i never tried both ways is because the rears will be hung off a rear beam.I was planing on making heavy metal brackets to hang the 3 rears and i never got off my butt and did it yet. But i will need them later anyway so i will make them and try both set ups, it's only a matter of time before i will need the brackets anyway. It just sounds strange with no rears, but also sounds very good with a matching center. Before i got the last two fortes i had my synergy rears, they didn't match but it still sounded good. I gave the 5 Synergys to a family friend for christmas for him to get started, he was very happy,he was told to join the forum and ask questions. He will need a sub and receiver, i told him to read and ask questions here before buying . His house is a couple of weeks from being rebuilt from the storm, he lives in Longbeach Mississippi. I expect to see him around here in a couple weeks. I did warn his wife i am not responsible for what will happen after he is addicted.
  15. I have 4 forte ll's and a sub, will get 2 more fortes later. Would you take one of the fortes for a center and just hold on to the other extra forte, or go without a center and use them for rears. Then later when i get two more use one for front center and the other for rear center. What do you think would sound best no center or no rears? 80% music 20% movies
  16. and another one, front view: Yes the windows are open 70 here today.
  17. Hey it's the same problem down here, if i wanted to build a boat this wood would be perfect. Most of the plywood we get here comes from north Louisiana and the studs and other dimensional lumber come from the same area or more south . If you go to a lumber yard to get say, a few hundred dollars of wood, plan on it taking a half day or more. I am setting up a sawmill here so I can cut my own wood the only thing is 90% of the trees in our area are pine, with the other 10% being oak, My neighbor and friend had a large red oak in his yard die from bugs, we cut it up and sent it to a local sawmill. The price to saw it into boards was $160 he got back 650 board feet of nice red oak. When he heard I was going to build an entertainment center and buy pine, he gave me a hard time, he wanted me to use some of the red oak so I did and it looks better than the pine could ever look. The tv is a little large, 65", so i didn't have much room to work with, this was the only way to build it to fit between the windows. Here is a pic.
  18. Can't say about the HTR 5990, i have the RXV 730 for a year or two now. I had it with the Synergy sb3 ,ss1,sc1, and now i have Forte ll fronts and center , and later i will get two more Forte ll's for rear's. With the Synergy and Forte the Yamaha sounds great to me and everyone who listens not at all bright like some claim. The reason i bought a Yamaha was the features it had at this price range was $500 when i bought it. I read alot about Harmon K but they were a little more for the same features at the time, but what i now read they are very good also. I don't know where the Htr 5990 is compared to the Rxv 730 but i feel you can't go wrong with Yamaha, Just stay away from the lowest models of any brand. I did compare the Yamaha to Denon and Onyko and the Yamaha beat both , to me at least.
  19. Good luck Michael, you know how to get a hold of us if we can help let us know.
  20. Also forgot to add ,Very nice job Cyclonecj on staying with it for that long. That has got to sound good, i don't think we had any speakers at my school, if we would have had something like that the kids would have shown some interest !
  21. Thats true a square would be much easier to cut and to turn it a quarter turn . I don't know if i could cut thru a perfectly good speaker though?
  22. I like to close my eyes it seems like you can hear more,no distractions. The only problem i have is after a few songs i get so relaxed i fall asleep.wake up and nothing is playing .
  23. Hey thats a very good idea they have there to rotate the horns . I wonder if you could that to the forte ll, it would not be that hard ,cut the circle out and make a new circle of thicker wood routed around the edge so it would have a lip to screw it down ? Perfect to rotate horns for laying speakers down for ht, If done carefully it would not change the interior volume of the cabinet.
  24. I think you are correct 7.1 would give more of a fuller sound from sides and rear, But that would require more speakers and a new receiver, hey now it don't sound so bad. No really thats a plan for months down th road, too many other projects going on at the moment, but it does sound good. Michael you are correct " There is nothing like that perfect matchup" , I did not expect that much of a difference. I have a good guess what that would sound like, one day i will know for sure. Sorry ,I thought that was somewhat of a complement, really.
  25. Just a thought when i read the title of this tread, compleat set of Lascala drivers on ebay right now.
