  5. Install and design landscapes, beds, trees, watergardens, waterfalls, for about 13 years up to katrina. Now doing cleanup from katrina for about two months, then back to the regular scheduled program. It is fun because the customer gives us a few ideas of favorite plants and lets us do what we want with the design and layout. They always end up happy,a few times the wife even started to cry because she said they never thought their house could look so good, happened twice in a row a few months ago. Scared the hell out of me the first time, thought we screwed up or they expected something different, sent my wife over to talk to her, it was a relief to hear she was happy, sorry i don't cry when happy,diden't know what was going on. It is a lot of work but fun and fun to make people happy.
  6. Sorry we have to cancel, we had some bad weather. This was the first chance I had to say anything. We were looking forward to being there but their is no way now. Wife and I were going to come and not tell anyone where we were! Things have changed. We will be there next year for sure. See my post in "General Questions". Wish we could come and we hope everyone has a really great time. We couldn't go to the one in Indy, we were busy with work at the time.
  7. Every one here is ok and so is our house. We just got electricity. It's going to be very busy for a while. Will check in every chance I get. I don't need to look at the post with pictures,we see it every day as we help clean my 73 year old aunt's house which had 7 feet of water and left 6 inches of mud. We are using my 2 inch gas powered water pump to pump fresh water from the bayou in to the house to wash out the mud after removing all of the furniture, none of which is salvagable to the yard. It's working very well so far. Only found one snake and a coon so far. Thats good, I just don't want to see any alligators. She lives on the north shore of Lake Pontchatrain in Slidell, LA, in Palm Lake subdivision. What can you expect? It's a total of about 2 feet above sea level and the house is only raised about 3 feet. My mother who is seventy years old lost her home of over thirty years. Her home was in St. Bernard Parish, part of the Murphy oil spill during Katrina. Her home will probably be condemned and bulldozed. My youngest sister lived at home with my mom. She is thirty five years old. They will both be living with us for years to come, as will my niece and her fiance'. They had an apartment in St. Bernard Parish and lost everything except the changing of clothes they left with and their dog. They lost both cars also. It's a good thing we added onto to our home. Originally, we had two bedrooms and one bath. Just completed addition about a month ago and increased to five bedrooms and two baths. Thought we would have two spare bedrooms for our daughters and their families to stay in when they come to visit. Worked out great everybody has there own bedroom and our "master suite" is out of the way of everyone. We increased square footage from approx. 1000 square feet to 2500 square feet. It is 32 feet above sea level,never floods even when we had 21 inches of rain in 24 hours about 3years ago. My wife, my oldest daughter and myself did all the work ourselves, on the original house and the addition. Everything from the slab to the roof, including electrical and plumbing. Not one subcontractor. The house was paid for cash as we went along and the only thing we owe on is the six acres it sits on. No credit cards either. Not even one. Good thing, as landscapers, my wife and I are out of work for months. Landscaping is last on the list when someone is building or better yet rebuilding. Had three landscaping projects going just before Katrina, and another three on the waiting list. All six projects are history for a while. Probably for a good long while. We do have trucks and big trailers so we should be busy for a while, if we ever finish with my aunt's house. Although in the past she has been very good to us and has no one else to help her. She never had any children and retired as vice president of one of the largest and oldest banks in Louisiana. She does have a Bose speaker system, which of course survived Katrina. We have considered allowing the Bose system to accidentally "hit the mud". Get this...she only listens to AM anyway! Seeing the destruction Katrina caused first hand has been difficult, but we have every one of our family members alive, we have a large enough house to accomodate all of us, and we have gained an even better sense of humor as a result. We told his aunt, "We brought the chainsaw (to cut our way down the driveway to the house) and five gallons of gas in case the chain saw wouldn't do the job(to finish the house off). But she wouldn't let us use the gas, turns out the Bose system and a few other things on the 2nd floor survived. Turned out we had to use a tractor with a front end loader to move the four foot of marsh grass and trees limbs to get a path to house, just wide enough for one vehicle. BUT EVERYTHING IS GOOD. could be floating
  8. Very good movie Amy just seen it the other day. It felt strange watching it, 1957 to 1969 i lived about 3 blocks from that house,easy to remember the houses end on one side of the street because of the river. It looked the same as it did 40 years ago and i bet they did VERY little to the area to film, that is just what that whole area is like . Not that bad if you take away the drugs and their salesmen
  9. It's not close enough to september yet? DON'T DO IT THE WEEKEND THE FORUM WILL BE CLOSED
  10. I can't say anything about grammar or punctuation , i tend to spell things like they sound. Even when i spell it correct it looks wrong to me ,been out of school 31 years and don't write much except here. Wife looks at what i type sometimes and laughs she knows i don't care. If it is important i get her to do it .{married 27 years}
  11. Yes it should be the 811 because it is not a dvr and i think that the 811 is the only other, i had checked out hdmi cables and they are about $100 for 10'. Tv has hdmi but i don't think dvi,guess i will just wait and see what they do and go from there. thanks
  12. In about a week dish network is instaling a dish here and i have no idea what cables i will need. TV is hd ready and has hdmi input and component . What is the best way to hook it up,tv and cabinet both roll out away from the wall so i will need cables 10" because they are pulled out one at a time tv first then cabinet. I will be recieving hd and voom so what is the best type of cable.
  13. WE have a 65" hd toshiba crt. 65H84 6 months old. under2k It is very bright, 5 big windows in the room no problem, you can vue at almost 180 degrees no different than any tube tv . I have seen some of the ones that if you are not sitting directly straight on it was not worth watching. Compare for yourself the are all not the same. If you can try to find a toshiba crt and see for yourself. When i started reading and comparing it came down to mits,hatichi?,toshiba in my price range. I talked to service people and read a lot of reviews these were the best for picture and reliability. At the time i was doing this some of the newer models/brands had not been out long enough for alot of reviews like samsung ,lg and a few more .The brand had been around but they had not been building large tv's for long.
  14. At least they diden't claim they invented the internet like that goofball al gore.

    Speedball i was talking about crt projection. They still should have some around very good picture also our room has 4 windows 36" wide and one window 72" wide and the tv is plenty bright enough,had to adjust the controls with the sound&vision dvd when we got it because before adjusting it hurt your eyes it was so bright. Toshiba model 65h84 65" 16:9 hd for under 2k, also people complain about the size/depth it is the same depth as the 32" it replaced 27" deep but 5' wide and 240 lbs. As far as detail we sit 10' to 11' away and it is a much better picture even with basic cable than the 10 month old jvc or rca 32" tube we have. http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/product.asp?model=65h84 Just trying to help i went through the same thing 6 months ago. Good luck you will not be sorry, get the biggest you can fit . IMHO.

    Forgot something. This toshiba is 16:9 and one of those adjustments changes it to 4:3 normal tv ,and after you see the 16:9 for a short time the 4:3 looks very strange. Edit: their is still some CRT,s around if you want to go cheaper,still very good picture.

    I'm not sure about all but the toshiba we have has a button on the remote that has 5 different settings to adjust the size of the picture to remove the bars from any format. Sometimes we just use it to remove the captions from channels like fox news. I don't know if this is standard or not, but was one of the things i liked about this tv.
  19. Ok i can't say anything about our local team.{saints] But i do like football, last season we got a new tv 65" one week before superbowl and went on vacation for a week about 3 days before the game diden't even find who won till the next day. Now i am looking in to getting hd sat, this year should be different,i hope.
  20. IM with FRZNINVT. I did insurance for a bunch of years seen them in all shapes and sizes and ages die. Many were in much better shape and ate much better than the average person. The first claim i had to work on was was a person my exact age , birthday , and size 6'3" about 260lbs , he died in his sleep ,they say his heart just stopped not a heart attack it just stopped, he was found to have no health problems.< it was very strange to see his age ,birthday and almost my exact shape and size as me > I think that when it's your time what kind of shape or diet you have makes no difference. I'm not saying you can't change the time by doing crazy things.
  21. Ok i just spent over a hour searching past threads,so i did look. Looking to get sat tv ,looks like dish network because i want it for hd. Direct tv, you have to buy the hd reciever dish network gives you one. One of the many things i don't understand about sat tv is if a channel is not listed on the list of hd stations but that channel is broadcast in hd do you get it in hd. Like a local channel that has hd is it hd on sat, we live out of range of ota antenna. Also who pays to repair or replace sat receivers,can you get a service plan. The reason i ask the power goes out at least 3 or 4 times or much more a month here and when we had digital cable the receivers went out every month or two. It could have just been the receivers because no other equipment had a problem. htr receiver ,dvd ,cd,vcr,tv.
  22. Almost forgot, now useing sc1 and ss1 and there is a big difference. For music it sounds better with just the 2 forte ll's, i miss the surround speakers but they don't even come close in the midrange or highs, sounds like they miss a big part of the music.
  23. Glad to hear that,i plan to get 2 more pair for 6.1 can,t wait.
