  1. Two replies: 1. She is an Investigator (Detective) with one of our Suburban PDs. 2. I agree that we are all children of a higher Being. Whether it be Allah, God, Jesus, or room for non-believers. Non-believers still look to a higher sense - their brain. No matter what we call ourselves, or what we belive or dis-believe we are all here for the long haul. A number of instances on this Forum - Dean, all who have answered questions or have made contact with me regarding my knee surgery (may have 1 more - yippee!!) prove that there is a force that is within us. For the most part, we use that force for good, we may stumble and fall - we are only as pertfect as our faults. My point? We only need to ask each other and we usually get MORE than one helpful response. That is living TOGETHER.
  2. Greetings: She carries a 9mm, I think that frightens him........
  3. Hello: Went to local Performing Arts last night. Ran into friends we've known since their 2nd date. He was in the market for new speakers. Sent him to my local Klipsch Reference Dealer. He was all set to buy the new RF75s and matching center. Wife comes into store after work, sees what he's going to buy and cost. She gets "irritated" says you A$$hole, you can get the same thing at Best Buy. Dealer has no chance to describe differences - she said - "WE'RE LEAVING this highway robber and they leave to go to Best Buy and they bought their speakers there. I had no input with her temper. They also bought entry level Kenwood Receiver. Together they make over 100 grand after taxes. Reference sits, Best Buy hits.
  4. Hello: RE: Telefunkens - mentioned before, but if you see "GAP/COMPUTOR correct spelling) made in Germany, has ECC83/12AX& look inside pins - Tele diamond. P.S. Anyone know ABOUT oMAGE SPEAKERS, ESP. sUB-WOOFERS? Canadian made. Thanks again, Win
  5. Greetings: Dean- you have mail. I will be in contact tomorrow A.M. re: the 502. My tahnks!! Still need face plate and tubes - thanks, Craig - NOS does his part again - should write Customer Service Book. Craig e-me your # again. correction: RP5s - floor standing is what she wants - Sorry. Anyone have an older McIntosh 240 with the more Gaelic/squared lettering and it needs to be replace, I have 2 in Factory packages. Will trade for newer non-squared. Anyone wanting a color copy of the mid-70s Klipsch manual, e-me - but not all at once. Unsure if still available, so I offer. Thanks All, pain pill time. Win
  6. Good Day: The Minwax comes in Natural, Medium, Dark and I believe light, oak. Color comes with how long left on before wiping. Linseed oil is good but get rags out of house - combustile. Watco is another brand I have used when I used to refinish guitars. 2 - 3 coats apced well while drying gives a finish that won't have to be done as often., Main thing is use of a latex/water based finish. I have seen them break down as do sealers with a high amount of paraffin (wax). Good Luck, Win dodger
  7. Hey Craig: My apologies, I didn't see the posts. Not upset in the least! I'll hunt down the 502 and it is preferrable the tubes be as NOS as possible. My email gets messed up, or the operator once in a while. Your stuff goes out today. Take Care, Win
  8. Happy Birthday Josh - hope it is all you wish for. --------- mOOn: have fun and I HOPE you have a great time.
  9. Good Morning: The positives: * no brawls, good end to end skating - if I want numerous fights, I'll watch boxing. * Brian Gionta #14 on Devils from same area The Negatives: * The camera continuing to show J. S. Gigure in tears. May we have some privacy please? * Booing Gigure - whether you agree or disagree, his team lost, he pulled them through many games. Yes, we have a right to free speech, on the night of losing, please refrain, write a letter to the Editor - I rank that up with asking a family member "how do you feel...." after another member has died/been killed. These are my opinions, but I did like the Goaltender duel and no brawl hockey. Congrats to N,L., the Ducks did more than could be expected. Win
  10. Good Morning: My list has grown a bit, but here goes: I really need the following: a. 6 Bugle Boy (or Telefunken) 12AX7/ECC833 needs to be NOS, reasonable. Telefunkens or Mullards also okay. b.Faceplate for a McIntosh 2120 - NOS or a 9/10. c. McItntsosh 502 Amplifier - If somone has info on how this lasts, that would also be helpful. d. McIntosh 2125 - the meters get to me. Possibity of working something with my McIntosh MC 30s. e. Klipsch RP5 speaker system - also in great condition. f. NAD 7125 Receiver. This can be Money Order, cash or trade for other NOS tubes. Last question: Is anyone familiar with OMAGE speakers - not giving up Klipsch, niece is interested.
  11. Greetings: I am in need of 6 realistically priced NOS Bugle Boy ECC 83/12 AX7s. Also in need of NOS or 9/10 faceplate for McIntosh 2120 Amplifier. I truly give my thanks to those that emailed me and gave support while I just had my knee done. It is truly appreciated. whl248@yahoo.com Win dodger
  12. Greetings: I have also heard good things about the Philips. Congratulations on your ambition and desire to try to get the best and be open to others advice. I hope you succeed with your goal!! Win (dodger)
  13. Hello: I have been to Sound Images. The statement is correct as to tube gear (my sister-in-law lived in Winchester, VA). When you go to a Best Buy, you have to realize that they want a quick turn-over, not all of the staff is going to be all knowing about the equipment. As different merchandise comes in and out, the most popular will get the floor space. In my area BB, the Mobile audio room is twice that of the home audio. (Synergys in a car anyone?) Coupling the facts already stated, the type of music is usually different, the wattage of the receivers and the distortion buyers throw into the speakers will be a riot to hear - and see if drivers fail and the most popular will be the WE SELL KLIPSCH signs and ads. Do you think a number of people will take the time to compare the Synergy line to the Reference line? We'll see how Reference line sales go - especially when a number of people have to travel longer distances to hesr/see/buy the References and the "average" buyer will say "hey I just saw some Klipsch speakers that are the same size but a whole lot cheaper." Trickle down econony here we come. Poor bracing, grille covers that have to be replaced, wire that is a monster to look at? I love Klipsch, even with selling 2 pair of LaScalas, I still own 4 pair. But even when I finally brought my Chorus IIs over, I had to repair the "stand" - 2 corners not joined, the glue/adhesive holding the plastic brackets inside the stand had all separated - somehow except for a woofer change because the 2nd pair of LaScalas did not have the same amount of bass - all I had to pay was freight. I didn't have to inspect each speaker so closely as now, IMHO. How many here remember Fisher Stereo when Avery was around? Or Zenith? Or RCA ? Indy, Mexico anyone. Not a shot at BB, they have to cater to the masses who can't afford, or want the lowest price. BTW: one other thing, with the number of companies changing to 2 way speakers - even if they sound good, is there a real or manufactured reason for the number of sub-woofers and extra cost ?
  14. Good Morning - I am Holly C., taking care of some thing at my uncle dodgers. He was kept overnight because the operation stuff bothered his asthma. He just called me a little while ago and asked me to check his messages. I did and called him back. After I gave him an overall, he asked me to do a couple things they are = send his apologies to other members of the forum. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ He said if he had known it would create so many argumentative replies and arguing he never would have asked for an answer. I AGREE!!!! If any of my employees went on like this I'd write them both up. First amendment is great but I wonder if the simple question was answered I don't want to read all of what went on and I don't understand it but that's me. What he asks or buys is not up to me I just do what he asked. I just add that what I read is squabbling between 2 people that believe what they believe. I can't believe that 1 question got out of hand. I'm sorry I don't mean to show my thoughts on my uncles sign in. Holly
  15. Hey Randy: Yes, the first name is Win - it's short for Winford (1st girl I went steady with - Winifred, same class in school: Winford, Winifred, Wilford, Wilfred - we drove that teacher nuts! Resorted to last names. Anyway, I love the C20. I had it gone over, replaced all the tubes - use Telefunkens. The Loudness Control is a nice touch, having the choice of 0, 300 HZ or 400 HZ for the bass is great. The L + R output is perfect for a sub if you want to "Y" and the ability to adjust the cartridge output on the back is also a nice touch. I have A/B'd mine vs a C 22 and I'm happy with the C 20. No offense against C 22 owners. If you want more info or need schematic copies - whl248@yahoo.com. Hope this helps. Craig and Ryan, please don't think I'm trying to force you 2 to get along. I'm appreciative that both of you took the time to make contact with me. Win
  16. Greetings: I appreciate the input and will mull it over the next 20 minutes, along with trying for a lower price. I sense some anymousity that is understandble with audio enthusiasts. I can also be very opinionated. From both, I sense the amp is a good one with the right tubes. That I will be sure of, at 50 I have my own stock and some good resources. I also have the knowledge of the good tubes, I believe my MX110 takes a 6U8, so I may be set. I appreciate both of your replies, you each make valid points. They will be taken into account. It is neat that we can be passionate about our equipment. That's part of Audio and part of life. My sincere appreciation and thanks to those that replied. We all will get along. We can agree to disagree, but in the end the best sound is what we're striving for and I thank you for helping me with a different brand. Peace to you today and for all of the todays to come. Win
  17. Sorry the post looked like I was selling - don't know how to modify title. Please read and contact. Thanks Win
  18. Greetings I have been contacted by a person going through divorce. 299 C with output tubes only, sold pre-amp tubes on eBay. Thoughts or opinions (I am not that familiar with Scott, but since quite a number of Forum members own, I wonder if there's something I'm missing.) Any quirky pre-amp tubes in this unit? whl248@yahoo.com I am open to opinions. Thanks Win (unless there's a good 2125......)
  19. Hello: Well, I don't want to pay $350.00 for an amp with no tubes, but if anyone is getting rid of a mint 299 b prefer C or a 222 please let me know. I'll even stop posting for 2 weeks. From tomorrow until Thursday or Friday, I'll be either in hospital or away from keyboard. Not ignoring. whl248@yahoo.com Win dodger -------- Craig: Have not had time to box your CARE package - you'll have some toys.
  20. Hello: If the Pioneer is not easily availble, I can suggest the Tascam RW 700. Easy to use. No problems. RE: copyright - isn't it nice that Congress decided not to enact the installation of a chip so that CDs will be "coded". The industry wanted to have enacyed a provision that once you play a CD on one machine, it cannot be played on another CD player? What if the machine needs repair or the owner updates? The industry also wanted to have additional tax (to the one we're already paying) if you make a copy for your car. Win
  21. Greetings: I modified my Heresys. The effect was a noticeable improvement in mids, voices, guitar. I did one first and a/bed them and 10 out of 10 people that did not know of the mods chose the modified. My mods: 1 x 2 bracing, cut to fit, around all the center of the four inside walls of the box. I used liquid nails to attach. Wrapping the exterior of the mid and tweeter horns (not the drivers) with Dynamat . Applying the Dynamat to the inside walls and the back of the cabinet. Putting acoustic fibre-fill (1.5 packages into the cabinet before closing it back up. I did notice some loss of sensitivity. But take a voice like Streisand or one like Joplin - Janis, There was an improvement. Violins, acoustic guitars, and bass definition also improved to me. The wood braces eliminated the "hollow sound" of the cabinet as did the Dynamat . The Dynamat to the metal horns toned down the ringing effect and some harshness. The fiber-fill, I'm not sure. All of the above did add weight to the speaker but brought down the brightness that led to listening fatigue. Win
  22. Greetings: I have found Vampire to be well worth the money. One other recommendation, try apature, call 1-800-APATURE, their cables are also very good. Note: this is my opinion. Win dodger
  23. Greetings Leok: Thanks for the tip. Algorythms, Logorithms - who'd have thought we'd be using all of these mathematics in audio. See kids STAY IN SCHOOL! Thanks Again, Win
  24. Greetings Josh: The type of blue as when you push the amplifier - normal color until the 120 and 130 volt (10 minutes each) on the variac. I have Genalex KT88s that wil go a little blue if I push the McIntosh MC 60s (using another less efficient speaker for trial). I appreciate the input. Now I'm thinking of trying a Scott 299 B or C. Bring the Chorus IIs in (they were over at my in-laws) and trying the 60s, the 240s and the 30s is kind of neat - little differences in sound - same for the 2 240s and the different tubes. I really do appreciate the comments - it's nice to know others are looking and helping. Peace today and for all of the todays to come, Win dodger whl248@yahoo.com
  25. Greetings: Within the discussion of NOS Valves paying a house call, the topic of cymbals not sounding right on a CD. I did a dissertation of bass from LaScalas and the factors involved from recording on. I agree that cymbals do not sound right on CDs. To me violins also suffer the same - my Mother was a concert violinist so I feel familiar to discuss this. The main culprit is the digital reording or analog to digital. Our ears hear an analog sound as we hear the full amount of sound -timbre, full amount of tonality, overtones etc.. Digital attempts to assign its numbers even if there is an overtone that does not quite fit. Analog will match the instrument and all tones exactly if recorded properly. As I posted before, I find it amusing that units for home and professional recording are popping up toting "give your recordings that warm tube sound," or "give your digital recordings tha analog sound," along with more tube microphones coming to market. And now Sony is introducing turntables back into its main line. Makes you go hmmmmm. I am not putting digital down, it is a great medium, has many benefits. Just posting what was said about cymbals (I agree) and my observations about violin and tonality that falls in between the range of a digital assignment. Just my own opinions and hearing.
