  1. you're way too modest deanG. i came upon this thread shortly after rereading the message you sent to me a while back in response to my inquiry of upgrading the crossovers to my rb-5's & kg 5.2's. the ONLY reason i haven't had you upgrade all my crossovers is my own laziness.(and they sound pretty darn good already) your knowledge on this subject is extraordinary. you are a professional. and it is crystal clear that you work hard at being that way. thanks for your insights.
  2. shawners, before you throw those 5.2's to the rear of the bus, try some separates. i was using some 5.2's as my surrounds (until i recently went w/rb-5ii's across the board), and i must say they absolutely rocked with my acurus amp. i've got a 35 watt rotel powering my 5.2's in a basement bedroom now and it will make your ears bleed! and it is a smooth sound as well. although they may not be rf-7's, they ain't bad either.
  3. talk to deanG. he's the expert on this. he does numerous crossover upgrades including the 5.2/5.5.
  4. ekbriggs, have you considered leaving the amps on 24/7? i never did this until i read other threads from this and other forums. i never turn off any of the amps i own. i also never have popping sounds when i turn my systems on or off. another upgrade i recommend highly is to replace the outlet with a hospital grade 20 amp outlet.
  5. i have a similiar issue. i use rb-5ii's on stands to the sides of my couch w/nothing directly behind. for your system the rb-75's on stands would seem to work well. also you could go w/2 rc-7's on the sides like m00n.
  6. m00n, take a look at your system dude. the reason you have to turn up the levels every time you check is because you're going deaf!
  7. m00n, i'm obviously no expert, but i think (and i emphasize think) that as long as you have the spacing between the rear port (i think there is one) and the wall, the sound should be fine. as has been mentioned a few times, the angle is the critical part. i'm jealous of your rc-7's. i want seven of them for my 7.1 system. for now i'm living w/rb-5ii's.
  8. thanks. guess i should have paid more attention. i've been in and out recently, so i missed it. oh well.
  9. i updated some stuff in my signature, but when i viewed it again i had lost my color and small font. i know there is a way to change colors & font size, but i have forgotten. please help me so you don't have to see such a cluttered signature.
  10. i have heard the many benefits of having the same speakers all around. i took the plunge with another set of rb-5ii's to replace my kg5.2's. am i going to be happy with the bookshelfs all around or will i miss the 5.2's. the 5.2's sound awesome, but i am only using them as my surrounds anyway. your thoughts?

  12. lonestar, thanks for bringing country music to the forum. i have followed dac for quite awhile. i think i have owned a lp, tape, or cd of every song he has ever sung (including the x rated) at one time or another. they kept dissappearing from my collection because everyone loves it. i know for a fact i have purchased dac's greatest hits no less than ten times! i love to listen to george jones' "the fox on the run", and i still love to hear him sing with tammy wynette. what about trucking music live red sovine? also i must say that although i like a few new arists from time to time, i believe keith whitley, garth brooks, and toby keith are among my favorites of all time. keith whitley in particular could have really been something special. i can't get any of toby keith's songs out of my head.
  13. i got an rxv-730 for under $300 at tweeter.
  14. okay, so i'd like to go with 5 rc-7's for my entire rig, but i built an armoire for my tv, components, and main speakers. i don't want to build another one just to fit the rc-7's in. i have just enough room to use the rc-3ii's for my 3 fronts. my current setup sounds fine, but we always have to tweak don't we? your thoughts.
  15. man i wish i could get some speakers with 89 dB sensitivity. oh wait a minute, i forgot. my "crap" has a MINIMUM 96 dB sensitivity. i guess that means i could drive my "crap" with a clock radio.
  16. check out the ecost.com denon & hk refurbs. i just picked up a yamaha rxv730 for $288 at tweeter.
  17. i agree. use the denon as a pre/pro until you can go completely separates. spend your money on the power and go from there.
  18. tillmbil, i love it. it is awesome. now you can get it for less as b&k dropped the price. it is, however, very labor intensive to customize. you need to spend a lot of time to tailor it to your listening preferences. it takes too long to go through the litany of customization tools this thing has. you can literaaly make it do whatever you want. more than anything else, however is it does EXACTLY what a preamp was meant to do. and that is simply process the information (for dolby 5.1, etc.) and seem to not even be there (2 channel) check it out, but keep in mind that if you don't want to take the time to set it up, you will not want this unit.
  19. its been a week and a few hundred dollars, but i have determined my b&k has a dead subwoofer out. by the way, both klipsch and b&k customer service have gone out of their way to help. bought a low to mid level yammy (rsv-730) w/preamp outs to fill in while the b&k is in the shop. what a HUGE difference in sound quality. i'll probably NEVER stray from separates. WOW!
  20. a plug for walter at underwood hifi. he is a pleasure to do business with. he has some quality products, and stands behind them. jolida is tremendous quality for the $$$. i wouldn't trade mine for anything.
  21. i know why you're called TheEAR now. holy shikees! i knew about the rsw's. i knew you had a bunch of subs but that is unbelievable! i assume you used to be called TheEARS.
  22. thanks all. i have no idea what is going on.
  23. i was watching toby keith and willy last night for the pregame when i noticed there was an unusual lack of bass. sure enough my rsw-12 was dead. the light is on. i checked the fuse. i don't think there are any internal fuses. any suggestions before i send it back???
